In your situation I would probably wait till the beginning of next year so it is "new" for the new school year. Is it the 2:52 Bible? DS has it and likes it

DS has the matching case. Noah might appreciate it too. Maybe give it to him for Christmas. DS got the Bible for his birthday in Nov and my parents had to order the case so he got it for Christmas. The cover is different now. DS's looks like the bed of a truck: has a metal pattern

My thought is that if you give it over the summer, you will have time to explore it together, and also it will feel more like 'his' Bible (for his own spiritual life) rather than like a school-book. No opinion on Larry Boy - why not ask him if he wants a T-shirt or something? That conversation would give you a good impression of the cool-ness of the character among his peers.

Can you give me a link to the case? I don't see it on CBD, or else I am missing it. He likes his Larry Boy case, so maybe it'll be okay for another year or so.

That was my thought too...that he'll have lots of time to read and explore his new Bible over the summer. Hmmm... quote:

Well, his elementary concert was all Veggie Tales, and while he doesn't watch the tapes/DVDs too much anymore, he loves to listen to the CDs we have.

I would give it to him at the end of this year. Give him time to enjoy it and make it HIS before school starts back up again. Blessings, Garsy

Unless of course you have a boy like Donna's Noah - I don't think reading his Bible or any book that matter would seem like homework! To some kids, reading is like breathing - just something they do regardless! Blessings, Garsy

I picked... other. I usually give Bibles for easter or birthdays, but neither would be good in this case. Sooooo... if it were me, I would make it super special. I would take him out to a quiet restaurant or fix a super meal with dessert. I would let him know that it was a special meal for him. At the end of the meal, Daddy would read a pre-written "blessing" that he could keep to reread later. I would tell him how proud I was of him and talk about all the wonderful ways that you have seen him grow, and talk about how much you are looking forward to seeing him someday be the man that he is becoming. After that we would present him with the Bible to help him continue to grow. Then we would top it off with a special prayer asking God to bless him and help him grow into the wonderful man that He would have Noah be. I look for opportunities like this to bless my kids. Each child would get their own time. I like to also have blessings for the children as a group to promote unity.

I would say at the beginning of the year to go along with new backpack, new crayons, new school box, new lunch box, etc.

I voted for at the end of second grade - is he having a graduation? You could give it him then as a present. I also agree that if you give it to him at the begining of the year that it may seem more like school than personal. You don't want to start that thinking because it could last the rest of his life but that JMHO. Steph

I agree, give it to him before. You want it to seem more special and less like a school supply.

He needs NIV for school next year. This year, he has had NIrV, but can't use that one next year. I do think I will give it to him at the end of this year. I'll bet he explores it quite a bit over the summer, as we have mandatory 1.5 hour quiet time in the afternoon while the little guys (and pregnant Momma!) sleep. The older kids don't have to sleep, but they may only read, color, or build with K'nex during that time.

Our church just had a special "ceremony" for the grade one students. To celebrate them learning how to read this past year in school, they were each given their own Bible and encouraged to practice their reading skills by reading the most important book ever written. The class recited a chapter from the Bible by memory, and the SS Superintendant prayed for them. It was really nice! They got beautiful leather bound NIV Bibles.
