This is something I'm surprised I don't hear talked about more. If you haven't thought of this, let's walk through it - if Obama were to be elected, who do you think will be calling the shots come November? Do you really think the power-brokers in DC, the Kennedy's and Pelosi's (them specifically as well as their minions) will really let a two-term Senator leap frog them right to the Oval Office? Why would Pelosi share or give up power like that? Well, she obviously couldn't run for the Presidency herself, Hillary made it clear years ago she had her eye on it. But Pelosi wasn't about to let that happen! Her/their backing of Obama did Hillary in. And now they've got this weak, inexperienced nominee that they'll be able to play like a puppet if he gets elected. Do you really see Obama standing up to Pelosi or Kennedy or Reid on anything? Hardly. He'll be doing exactly what they want him to do and they'll be weilding power unbridled. Pelosi will have infinitely more power and influence than if she were President herself. So the logical next question would be who will be calling the shots if McCain is elected? Given the silly charges flying around lately about the lobbyists he has working on his campaign, I know someone will pipe up with "The EEEEVIL Lobbyists will be calling the shots!" You obviously don't know how this works. If McCain has lobbyists doing his bidding, they're doing HIS bidding at this point, not the other way around. They need him, he hasn't needed them for a long time. He's several Senate races past needing their contributions or support to get reelected. And he's never needed their help getting a sweet mortgage deal on an enormous mansion like Obama and Biden - he lets Cindy handle that. McCain's like the Tom Hanks of D.C. - he picks the scripts he wants to read at this point. He's built relationships over the decades in DC with the lobbyists who can help him do what HE wants done. They need him more than he needs them. At his level, which Obama hasn't even begun to see from where he is, much less reach (but it's the same place Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Biden, and others are on), he's working with like-minded interests and really doesn't have to "play ball" with anyone he doesn't want to. We hear lobbyists and lobbying demonized without really knowing how it works. We just need to be clear who we're voting for - if you plan to vote for the Obama/Biden/Pelosi ticket, just be honest with yourself about what you'll be getting (what we'll all be getting).

If McCain or Obama is elected, I truly feel that each will call their own shots, but hopefully be open to the input of others outside their immediate inner circle.

John McCain, himself, has bristled over the influence lobbyists have in D.C....i was surprised to learn there were so many lobbyists in his campaign...as to Kennedy he gave up the desire to be President a long time ago, i think your criticism here is unfair...Pelosi may have ideas about the Presidency, but i find that doubtful as she has never made a bid for the office...high ranking party members of both parties have always tried to exercise influence on the sitting President...and, on the other hand, i'm sure McCain will also find some ranking Republicans wanting to be "power behinde the throne"...whoever is elected should take a lesson from Harry Truman-the buck stops here

In the past he has indeed; however, this John McCain is not the same John McCain I would have gladly voted for in 2000 or 2004. His party has pushed him way farther right, and Palin is to the right of right.

Obama will be unusually and highly influence-able in his inexperience. You know the leadership wanted him and not Hillary and that's how he got the nomination. The Democratic party threw the Clintons under the bus for this guy - he owes them.
