I've been going through, and therfore focusing on, a difficult situation for about 2 months now. Throughout this time, while it's been hard, God has really shown up & shown-out. I've spent tons of time praying & reading about this issue, and He's taught me a LOT about how glorious, faithful & strategic He is. I engage in much more worship now than I ever have...even during the tougher moments. Yesterday, I had a God-made breakthrough in the situation, which I was thrilled about. But last night & today I've had almost a bad attitude; I just feel like my spirit it tired. Of course I've continued doing my usual prayer, reading the Word & worshipping, but for some reason I feel exhausted. It's almost as though I've done too much spiritually and I'm burned out, but is that even possible? I go to a very large, prominent church and the services last 2.5 hours. The praise & worship is amazing, and the sermons are incredible; I always feel closer to God during church. But when I leave, I feel spritually drained. This is exactly how I'm feeling now. Anyone else ever feel like this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to me, if I've understood you correctly, that the closer you get to God the harder the devil is fighting to lead you astray. Fight him back through prayer.

That makes sense! I've noticed over the last few years that I start to feel this weary emptiness right before (usually the day before) a big breakthrough. Actually, I felt this 2 days ago, too, which was the day before yesterday's breakthrough. It's like the enemy knows that my race is almost finished, so he launches one last big attack on me. *sigh*

Hi, I agree the enemy could be at work, but also think you may need to give Giod His time to do His thing in your life. I often find within my relationship with the Savior that a lot of twisting, turning, struggling, thinking, praying, consternating may go on, but eventually come to the place where I come to him, admit I'm tired and wait for His rest and such to prevail; it always does.. So, when you are ready to end "the round" to use a boxing analogy, He will be there to grant your soul spirit and being needed rest. Count on it.

It is natural and only to be expected that after having been drawn close to God you should feel drained and weak by comparison to being in His presence for His glory does tax the senses in the extreme. In fact, I beleive some of the prophets of old felt this way after having done some amazing things in and for God. You could say all exilleration must by necessity be followed by a period of comparative dullness least the exilleration become common place and meaningless. Having said that, we may well worship Him in such moments but then will we do the same when we are not? No one likes a lover who is only there for the good times. By all means take the period of rest as God gives for the battle rages and you will soon be sent for again. If God should gracefully give you sleep, why should He also not give you rest from His glory least you be over come by it?

Some times we get so invilved in the mechanics of Christianity, prayer bible study etc, that we loose track of the simplicity of just spending time with the Lord with out seeking anything else, but him. Those that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Sometimes we get so focused on touching God that we loose sight of the fact that God wants to touch us. My sugestion to you is that you go before the Lord pour out all your feelings and emotions on the matter, in effect empty yourself out. Then wait on the Lord in silence to fill you with new vigor. In quietness and stillness we are renewed before God. Learn to be silent before God so that you may recieve his vitality o go on. There are times when we can pray so intensly in our own effort that we can tire ourselves out. Often then I have gone before the Lord totally drained , spiritually exausted, and was totally real with God saying that I wanted to pray, but I hand nothing left in the gas tank. Lord please help me, Lord I have no strength to pray on my own, please I need your strength to pray please come. Then I just sit there waiting on him to give me what I need to touch him. My God has never failed to come to me and help me in those situations. It takes patience to wait on the Lord like this, but the benefit is priceless. When the Spirit comes and energizes, and inspires my pray this nothing in Heaven and Earth, that can hold that prayer back.

I too have been going through a difficult situation, however mine has lasted over a year now. I see it this way, when you exercise you push yourself to get somewhere or to accomplish a goal, when you're done, you're tired. As I have focussed on the tasks and challenges of working through my situation, I am often tired after a breakthrough. I have been wrestling, so to speak. My beliefs have been challenged, my patience has been tested. I've been stretched and pulled and I've grown through great trial. I am tired. Having gone through this trial has left me with a strength that could face it again or even strengthen others who will face this same road. I admit that I have what I have because the Lord is indeed gracious and kind. I am not strong because of my will. If it were my choice, I would have run away, but instead I knew in my heart that God's way was the only way and I had to learn what it meant to rely on Him. I see growth. Looking back you will likely see that you are a much more mature chrsitian than you were before it all started. How far does this experience go? That's up to God and you to decide.

If church isn't renewing your mind, refeshing your soul, giving you opportunities for fellowship something is wrong. Just asking, what is the difference from going to church and going to an intense, long, movie such as "Saving Private Ryan"?

This is exactly what I'm going through. I'm definitely maturing as a Christian, and I feel like I've been wrestling. I tell 'ya...it's draining to fight, or even just resist, the enemy.
