The primary and final authority for Christian ethics is found in the life, teachings, ministry and death of Jesus Christ as the revelation of God. He clarified the ethical demands of a God-centered life by applying obedient love or agape to all human situations, both personal and social, and insisted this included the earthly as well as the eternal, and required our best actions amid the relativities of the present world. ---------- symonds http://www.christian-drug-rehab.org

I'm not understanding the OP's post or slushie's parenthetic (sp?) reference. Please elaborate.

ORIGINAL: symonds The primary and final authority for Christian ethics is found in the life, teachings, ministry and death of Jesus Christ as the revelation of God. I think the Bible gives us not only information about how Jesus lived, but there is serious instruction for us elsewhere in Scripture. God reveals Himself in the history, the poetry, the Law, the epistles (letters) and the prophesies. To limit ourselves to watching Jesus, excellent as that is, is to ignore all the rest of Scripture God deliberately gave us. Look how many times Jesus answered people's questions by quoting the Old Testament. We can't ignore what Jesus used to teach.

As I think has been said, there can be no debate over your statement - but equally there is little point in it either. Ethics are continually developing where we face issues not commented on in Scripture and are open to interpretation [the debate about those is what keeps these boards alive!]
