***disclaimer**** I did not write this - I am working on a list of what I am thankful for, but this is something I got in my email several months ago and it's got me thinking....... I am Thankful FOR THE WIFE WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT, BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME, AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE. FOR THE HUSBAND WHO IS ON THE SOFA BEING A COUCH POTATO, BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS. FOR THE TEENAGER WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME, NOT ON THE STREETS. FOR THE TAXES I PAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED. FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS. FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT. FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE. FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING, WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING, AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME. FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.. FOR THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION. FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM. FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS OFF KEY BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR. FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR. FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES AT THE END OF THE DAY BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD. FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE. AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME.

I noticed in my last post I promised a list of what I was thankful for, and the list is pretty long - so I narrowed it down a lot: I'm thankful for: My Jesus and my salvation My Family (no matter how much they may drive me nuts at times, I still pray for them all and love them dearly) My Christian family...both IRL and here online, I can't even begin to imagine how many times I have been blessed by my brothers and sisters in Christ. My health There is a lot more, so much more....I just have to remember to keep a thankful heart and look for Christ's direction in all I do and encounter. Christmas Time Again Time sure does fly, and here it is already December 1. Seems like just yesterday I was taking last years decorations down. This makes me more aware of how little time we have here on earth, and it makes me want to make the most of the time I do have. To share the love of Christ with the people I meet and friends who don't know Him. I pray I can keep this in my heart for more than just a moment or season.

Okay....this is one of my favorite Christmas songs.....and yeah, I know, it has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus.....I love all those songs too - but this song just makes me feel happy and smile! I want a hippopotamus for Christmas Only a hippopotamus will do Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy I want a hippopotamus for Christmas I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you? He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue Just bring him through the front door, that's the easy thing to do I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes to see a hippo hero standing there I want a hippopotamus for Christmas Only a hippopotamus will do No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses I only like hippopotamuses And hippopotamuses like me too Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes to see a hippo hero standing there I want a hippopotamus for Christmas Only a hippopotamus will do No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses I only like hippopotamuseses And hippopotamuses like me too! Disclaimer: I do not want a hippo for Christmas - I just really like the song!

My sin, O the bliss of this glorious tho’t, my sin, not in part, but the whole – Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more! Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, O my soul! It is well_ with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul! I'm singing this solo tonight in services.....it really is beautiful and puts me at peace.

Well, family news......my niece is getting married! I'm so happy for her. She will be getting a "ready-made" family. Her boyfriend has a 1 yr old son (gorgeous boy). While the whole back-story is a little complicated, I am certain that they will be happy.

loving others There is a sweet lady at our church who is wheelchair bound. Her husband (not a very nice man) passed away last weekend. His funeral was today. I was in charge of organizing a lunch at the church for the family after the graveside ceremony. When the family showed up, I saw my friend. She looked magnificent. Mind you, her normal attire usually consists of a house dress, with long stringy mussed gray hair. When we would go to visit her, her husband would not let us in the house, we would have to visit on her carport. She had gotten a haircut and style. She had her nails painted and was wearing make-up.....had it not been for the chair, I probably would not have even recognized her. She is a very sweet lady, and she has two wonderful grandkids that attend church with her. I love this woman like she was family and I really barely know her. That is how it feels to have Jesus' love inside you. And I really like that feeling.

Our Wedding Day Jan 31, 1998 I remember waking up and thinking "this is it, wow, today is finally the day"....after all the preparation it was finally the day I had been looking forward to for the past 8 months or so. There was rain, a lot of rain, which everybody kept telling me was a "blessing". I was happy, so it didn't bother me too much....until places started flooding, but I tried not to worry and enjoy my day. I spent the bulk of the morning getting my hair done. That was fun. I knew the lady who did my hair from being on a bowling league together. She was sweet. Even ran to a local store in the rain to get the baby's breath for my hair. She also gave me a wedding gift before I left. When I got back home to my Mom's house, I found out that the plumbing had backed up. What a lovely way to begin a new life huh? With sewage coming up in the tub.....it happened a lot in heavy rain, so again, I took it in stride and carried on. Annie was my maid of honor, so she had spent the morning getting her hair done as well. We drove to a friends home that was close to the hall I rented for the wedding and continued to get ready. I kept thinking I was glad I only had to do this once. It sure was a lot of work. Finally, I arrived at the hall. My best friend and sister had gotten everything ready there and we were just waiting on Ron and his brother. As soon as they arrived I was sent to the restroom to hide until the ceremony began. My good friend of many years walked me down the aisle. It was kind of a "dinner theater" setup, with round tables and a small dance floor where we had a tull covered arch with white lights that we took our vows under. There were blue and white balloons on the ceiling and pretty lace curtains on the windows. It was far from grand, but it was nice and cozy. We had a JP marry us. He was on time and nice enough. I tried to put Ronnie's ring on the wrong hand at first, which made everyone laugh (the other left hand Ronnie!). After the ceremony, pictures were taken and everyone got in line for the yummy brisket meal I had catered. There was no dancing or drinking, so, after everyone ate, we opened gifts and then took off. It was nice. Short and sweet. The ceremony began at 3:00 and ended before 6:30. We honeymooned at a bed and breakfast on the riverwalk for two nights. It was really nice. I had a wonderful wedding, and I married a wonderful man. The past 8 years have been such a learning and growing experience for both of us, and we are stronger now than we we have ever been. I have truly been blessed, and I pray that God continues to bless us and our family.

Easter Sunday, 1982 This Sunday will mark my 24th birthday as a child of God. In that 24 years, I have had my ups and downs, my close-to-God times, and times that I was so distant, I wondered how He could love me and still want me. Looking back, I suppose my relationship in Christ has not always been perfect. Then again, I don't think anybody's is. Sometimes we are over-confident in the beginning of our "new life" and we easily dissappoint ourselves. I'm glad that in the 24 years since I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I have done some growing and maturing and now, though I still do not know it all (probably never will), I have learned to lean and rely on Abba for everything. Let's face it, there are days I couldn't get up and tie my shoes without my Father to guide me. I still have a lot of learning and growing to do. I hope that my children can see in me the love and trust I have for Abba, and can learn to rely on His love and grace as I have. To think that Jesus would die for me still blows me away. And I pray that it always will.

Happy Mothers Day to all Moms out there! BRILLIANT Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions!! Why did God make mothers? 1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is. 2. Mostly to clean the house. 3. To help us out of there when we were getting born. How did God make mothers? 1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us. 2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring 3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He Just used bigger parts. What ingredients are mothers made of? 1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean. 2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think. Why did God give you Your mother & not some other mom? 1. We're related 2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me. What kind of little girl was your mom? 1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff. 2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy. 3. She got too old to do anything else with him. 3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on. Who's the boss at your house? 1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball. 2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed. 3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad. What's the difference between moms & dads? 1. Moms work at work and work at home & dads just go to work at work. 2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them. 3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's. 4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine. What does your mom do in her spare time? 1. Mothers don't do spare time. 2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long. What would it take to make your mom perfect? 1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery. 2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue. If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be? 1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that. 2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me. 3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

A New Journey In a few weeks, I will venture into the world of "home schooling". I have had no doubts about wanting to do this for my children. Since I have been able to put my career on hold and be at home with the kids, it has been very important to me that they have a loving, nurturing environment for learning. In fact, I have been consciencely "teaching" them since they were born. Not necessarily with books and pencils and pads....but by singing the ABC's and counting stuff in the kitchen or grocery cart or where ever we may be. By doing this, they already know their alphabets and can write their names and numbers, and Ben can already read short sentences. I can hardly wait to start "school" for Ben. Evelyn will have her workbooks too....so she can "learn". She already tells me she wants to work in her "learning" book. Too cute. Pray for us as we venture out on our new journey, that God will give me the patience to be the best I can for my kids sake.

Giving my blog a bump I love fall......I can't wait to go and get the pumpkin patch pictures of the kids. And I can't wait to actually need a jacket to go outside. I'm thinking about getting the kids a language CD for fun. Who knows - I may learn something too.

on aging Okay, so I turned 41 this past Sunday. I'm getting my first pair of bifocals on Friday and later on in the month, I'm gonna be having my first mammogram. Getting old is sooooooooo exciting. So many new, fun, and exciting adventures awaiting me. I have to look at it this way, or I will get extremely bummed about it. I don't feel that old, really. I feel large, but then, I am, so that would make sense. Good thing my kids keep me feeling young. They keep me on my toes and entertained and as I get older and older, they can help to take care of me and feed me when my teeth fall out. I'm sure they will appreciate that. LOL! Actually, life is pretty good right now. I can hardly wait to get my AARP card in 9 nine years!!!!

My kids crack me up. If it's not one thing, it's another around here. Lately, if I hear Evelyn screaming and crying, it's usually because someone (mostly her brother) has "hurt her feelings". Then, out of nowhere (I really don't know where they come up with this stuff) she starts telling everyone that they need to "follow their dreams!" - she says this very seriously with furrowed brow ~ kinda like she's gonna punch your lights out if you don't "follow your dreams!" Oooooookaaaaaayyyy. And Ben will tell me a joke - and then giggle and ask "wasn't that funny?!?" Yes, and it always is - even when it isn't. I wish they could stay little and sweet like this forever. *****sigh*****

the tree I have always enjoyed the whole Christmas tree tradition in our family. When I was little, Dad would put the lights on, Mom would get out the ornaments, and once we were old enough, we were allowed to help with hanging ornaments and when the last ornament was hung and the angel was on the top, then we would hang the recycled lead tinsel (they stopped making it when it was discovered to be dangerous when eaten) on the branches, one piece at a time. It was tedious, but we always had a beautiful tree. The tree would go up on the 23rd of December and stay up for the twelve days of Christmas. When it came down, everything was packed carefully away in original boxes and put up in the attic til next year. When I got older, I had a tiny tree in my room, nothing fancy, but I was very careful with it and wanted it nice. When I got married, we went and bought an arificial tree (I'm allergic to real trees). And I tried to have as nice a tree as I did when I was a kid. Only it goes up much earlier now, dh likes to have it up ASAP after Thanksgiving. And I'm okay with that. This year, we decided to get a pre-lit tree. Seemed like the reasonable thing to do, our old one was losing branches and getting tired looking. So, we unpack the thing, and start to "shape" it. All the lights were wound up on the ends of the branches! It was a nasty jumble. So we decided to unlight it and then re-light it. Now, this was much easier said than done. It was a nice idea, until we started the unlighting process. It took forever, and the cords were a horrible tangled mess. Probably took us over 4 hours. And many, many times I kept thinking "am I insane? am I really that obsessive/compulsive, that the lights have to be that perfect?". I guess the answer is yes, I am. We ended up throwing out the lights that came on the tree, buying new ones, and re-lighting it in 'sections' so we won't have to take them off again. It looks beautiful, it really does, and it's not even finished yet. Now we have to dig out the ornaments and decorations. But at least the hard part is over. And we had fun doing the work. Now, I know that the way our tree looks matters nothing to our Savior. I know that Christmas is not about pretty trees, it is about the birth of a child King, our Lord. That should be enough, but I also enjoy keeping the traditions alive, the carols, not to mention all the wonderful smells of this time of year. I pray I can show someone the love of Jesus this Christmas.

of God's creations I followed a link from one of the threads here earlier this month and it is still drawing me back. I am amazed and full of wonder at the beauty of the things around us that we cannot even see! How awesome is it, that these tiny snowflakes are not only individually unique (no two snowflakes are the same!) but they are magnificent! And the beauty is so fleeting. Most would never know, and would just see the drifting white 'fluff', as it blows and piles up, and then eventually melts. If you click on the link above, you will see actual photographs of snowflakes. It still just blows my mind that something so tiny can be so full of beauty. It says in James 4:14 - whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead of a vapor, I'd like to think my life is like a snowflake. Abba is awesome!!!
