Yah, they are small and none of them have showed any disgust with my current system. One of the cats likes to sit or lay in the litter box just for the heck of it.

The first night they came home I put them in the crate and then had to leave for work right away. When I got home 9.5 hours later I was surprised at how much mess there already was in there.

Baxter did that. He didn't continue that habit thankfully.

I think most kittens do that, but thankfully I've never seen a full grown cat do it, so they do grow out of it :P

The breeder said that when they are young the litter box is just a constant, familiar place. I guess it gives them comfort?

It makes sense in an odd way :D

Catherine, Andrew and I will be in Reno on Saturday for his cousin's wedding. We plan to get up there around 11-1130 or so and would love to meet with you for lunch. Andrew also wants to see the kittens, if that's alright with you :) Truthfully, I would love to see them too!

Let me know if that would be doable. You can call me (I have a new cell phone and am having trouble hearing the ringer so you'll probably end up going to voice mail) or send me a PM here.

The church where the wedding will be is off 80 between South McCarran and 395.

I bet they are growing big too Cath. You know John would love to be a foster parent to a kitty.

Yah, I can do lunch, so long as lunch is over by 2. I will have some different foster kittens on Saturday though. Mittens, Midnight, and Granny are going back on Thursday and I will pick up some new ones the same day.

Matt keeps making fun of Mittens since I told him that she sleeps in the litter box. Poor kitty.

It's sort of bitter sweet that my kitties are going back tomorrow. On one hand I am sad because I have gotten to know each of them over the past week and a half, and I will probably never see them again. On the other hand, I am excited to meet some new kitties and learn about them. I hope I don't cry when I hand them over to the clinic.

As of yesterday I have insurance through my work!

Today I went and had an exam at the dentist. He is so nice. He kept telling me he really likes my hair. I was surprised, too, that the dental assistant who helped with my scaling and root planing *still* remembers my name just from seeing me.

Next week I am having a cleaning done. I will get a nice lecture about my front botoom teeth, I'm sure. The gum line on those goes pretty low, and my tooth brush has not been getting down there good enough, so the gum tissue down there is red. Eek. At least it has dawned on me what the problem is.

Two weeks from now I am having four fillings done, all on the left side of my mouth. They have me scheduled to be there for an hour and a half. He asked me if I had an iPod (I don't), then asked me if I have a CD player (I do, but haven't used it in years). He told me I could bring it and listen to it. I will probably bring it, but I don't know if I will listen to it. I kind of like to be in the know about what they are doing. Once the shot part is over I am not scared of fillings... the drilling sound doesn't bother me as it seems to bother other people.

After that I need one filling on the right side, and there is one other tooth over there that he is not sure what he is going to do with. I am really surprised there is anything wrong with that tooth (the problem area is the back side of one of my front teeth).

Then after that I get to have my top two wisdom teeth removed. I asked him if I could keep the top right one (it has already broken through the gum line), and he said no because it has decay and it is not sitting right.

Then I might have an implant put in where I had one of my molars pulled 1.75 years ago, but that might have to wait because I might be out of insurance money by then (I only get $1,500 per year for dental).

So that is my news from today.

I loved being able to escape into my music for my root canal. It helped that the endodontist was REALLY good, but having my music just helped me ignore what they were doing.

My nerves are really sensitive, my mouth small, and my teeth soft, so I can feel what they do, even with anesthetic.

And with my experience last fall with the dentist, they are growing on my top 10 list of most disliked professionals.

Well, I took Mittens, Midnight, and Granny back at the crack of dawn. It felt that way to me even though it wasn't. Really I showed up at the Humane Society (HS) at 7:45.

I was told I could page T who is the cat manager and she would be there and give me new foster kitties. One girl from the clinic went and walked through the entire shelter and could not find T. So I just left them my number, drove home, had some breakfast, and then went back to sleep.

Got a call from T at 9:20 and I told her I would go at noon at pick up some new kittens.

While I was driving back to the HS for my new kittens, I got a call from Matt. He was very panicked because he just looked at his speeding ticket today and he was supposed to go to court for it yesterday. He was not sure what would happen to him.

Got the HS and they brought me out five kittens. :O They aren't from the same litter, but they decided to send them all to a home together.

The ride home was absolutely awful. They gave me a carrier that has one of those doors that is metal with lots of bars. The top of the cage was missing one of the plastic pieces to keep it completely sealed. Well, while I was driving the cats kept clawing at my arm through the metal door. And then to make matters even worse one of the kittens managed to climb out the top of the carrier. So I was holding the kitten that escaped with one arm, and steering with the other arm, all the while trying to keep my right arm as far away as possible from the cats so as to lessen the amount I was getting scratched.

While all that was going on my phone rang and I did not answer it. It was Matt, and of course now he is mad at me for not answering my phone while he was going through a stressful situation in life. I told him that he keeps changing his policy about whether it is OK or not to answer cell phone while driving. Sometimes he will talk and sometimes he says to hang up the phone. No matter what his current stance is, there is no way I could have answered my phone while holding a kitten with one hand and steering and hoping to not get clawed to death with the other arm. It seems I can never win with Matt. He gets mad at me for "taking the defensive route" when I am just trying to defend myself and tell him why he should not be mad at me.

Actually Matt said it was fine because they have a ten day grace period. Lucky him.

These kittens don't even seem to like each other. I keep hearing them make bad noises.

The whole time MM&G were here I either kept the dogs in their crates or outside because they would not leave the kittens alone. Today when I let the dogs in they investigated the kittens for less than five minutes, and now they don't seem to care. Princess is laying on the couch next to me and Ami is standing with her head on my lap hoping I will pet her. I am glad the dogs have learned to ignore them.

Good for the dogs.

I hope Matt finds the ticket.

I'm sorry the ride home was stressful.

Regarding talking while driving ... do you have a hands-free device? It's law in Cali now, as of Tues. (I'll refrain from stepping on my soapbox about all topics related to cars, cell phones, driving, distractions, and tickets....)

Matt did find his ticket, it is just that he didn't pay attention to it til today. Luckily they did not charge him any late fees or anything.

I have access to a hands-free device, but don't care to learn how to use it. No one ever calls me besides Matt.

I am trying hard not to hate these cats. I do realize that in less than 12 hours they went from Animal Control to the Humane Society to my truck to my home. But man, it is just not nice to have welts and scartch marks all over your arms (I am treating them with Neosporin and the welts have gone away at least). And these cats are not realted so they are also not used to each other. Too bad I didn't wait a few days to pick up new kittens.

Every time I think about MM&G my eyes get watery. I didn't think I'd get emotional about them. They were so well-behaved in comparison to the five deamons kittens I have now.

It will get better Catherine. Being kittens they hopefully, by morning even feel better about being with each other. I don't think I could "foster" it would be too hard to give them back not knowing with all certainty that they would be treated well.

((((((Catherine))))))))

And good for you for not answering the phone while all that was going on while you were driving.

And good for CALI for that law! I can't believe what I see sometimes!

Well, I spent a little bit of time with each kitten tonight. I weighed them, gently cleaned them with a damp towelette, and trimmed all of their nails.

The three biggest kittens are calm. They all nicely sat for having their nails trimmed and them let me pet them afterwards.

The two smallest kittens are not calm. They kept trying to get away and give me more scratch marks. I wasn't sure I was going to get their nails trimmed by myself. I think though that they might just be more scared since they are younger.

What can I do to clean these cats?

The tiniest one is 1 pounds 6 ounces and s/he has wet food stuck on its face and feces stuck to its bottom. The moist towelette was not doing anything to remove those, and I am guessing the cat is not going to let me submerge it in water for a bath.

Two of the bigger kitties have long coats that feel kind of icky and have litter-like stuff stuck in there.

Help!

I don't know what to suggest other than a bath. We do bathe our cats. It's not fun the first time but if you wear rubber gloves, the good ones, it should help. Get the nails trimmed first though!

Thanks for telling me that, Kath. Harvie suggested a warm wet washcloth, but that was not working. So I held the cat in the sink and let water run over it and used the puppy shampoo I have. Man it was hard to get all the stuff off. Poor kitty was shaking after the shower was over. After he was done drying when I put him back with the group he kept running back and forth along the edge knocking the food and water bowls over again. arg!

Today we went to this big sports store called Cabellas for something to do. We had a sandwich made with elk meat while we were there... that was interesting. I had venison once but it was covered in sauce so I don't really know what it tasted like.

And now I am at work, of course. Tons of the upper management and supervisors are gone. My work actually had a 4th of July BBQ, but that was on Wednesday, which was my day off. I am guessing it was on Wednesday because so many people were taking today off.

Catherine you can use a hair dryer to dry them, just be very careful to keep it moving and not over heat them. Mine has a cool button that I would pulse to make sure not to cook them.

Hows the barfing wonder dog doing?

We give them a bath roughly every few months. Mike has allergies and it helps if we keep them clean. We probably ought to do it more often but he seems to do ok with that schedule. We have a hand held shower head so it's easier. And he might have ran up against the food but it's better than poo.

We have been bathing Nico weekly in this nasty stuff because he has an infection of sorts, and we use a dryer on low too. It gets him dryer faster. I also had a fan on low so he wouldn't cook since we don't have a cool thing like Brandy does.
