Newly elected leader of the U.S. Episcopal Church Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said on Monday she believed homosexuality was no sin and homosexuals were created by God to love people of the same gender. STORY

Yeah, the "pro-homo" lobby is becoming irritating. I personally don't believe in the harsh "instant damnation" view of homosexuals, but the Church's lack of a backbone is troubling. Next thing you know, the Church will be telling us that fornication, debauchery, murder, adultery, etc....is a special "gift" from God!!!?? Yeah, a "gift" just like homosexuality...ha. My biggest problem is how the homosexual community tries to drive a wedge into established institutions....Church, Boy Scouts, etc. They get mad if we say their lifestyle is wrong, yet they spend all their time trying to change ours...and "bring us around". If they want a gay church, then they need to start their OWN church and leave mine alone! The fact that churches are 'caving-in' is unacceptable IMO...another reason I don't place faith in the Church. I'm not saying homosexuality is better or worse than any other sin. I am a sinner myself, but I would never ask or expect the Church to transform its views for my "gifts"....afterall, my "gift" of drinking large amounts of alcohol makes me "happy" and it makes my beer drinking buddies "happy". It allows up to share and not drink alone :)....wow, I can't believe that article.

It always boggles my mind how people think it is alright to pick and choose what to believe in the Bible. Homosexuality is a sin and there is nothing anyone can do to change that fact.

All Christians should love homosexuals ("love they neighbor as thyself), but that doesn't mean we have to condone their lifestyle.

What the Word says about the last days is definately coming true. I wonder how does she explain Lev 20:13 or Lev 18:22?

You mean the part where it says that no one will know when the Last Days are coming?

Available4HisUse -> RE: Homosexuality in the News (6/20/2006 12:01:45 AM)

It is true we don't know the exact time of the LAST GREAT DAY but just like we can discern the season we are in (fall, winter, spring, summer, rainy season, etc) we also know the signs of the times. My response to the homosexuality issue is based on the Word of God. It is a sin, though we are to love homosexuals as we love anyone else. God loves the person but can still hate the sin. God still loves us even if we decide to make our bed in hell however it does not change the judgement of God nor His Holy Word. According to the scriptures in the last days, men will have itching ears. In other words, going where teaching is such that is pleasing to the flesh.

The last days are like nuclear fusion and working AI - they are always 10-20 years away.

People have been saying that TEOT is coming for 2000 years. But this is offtopic - opening a new thread might be a smart thing to do.

That way you can't be responsible for your behavior. It's the victim mentality.

rcjames -> RE: Homosexuality in the News (6/20/2006 8:39:17 PM)

The really scary part about the Episcopal Church is that only 10% are reported up in arms enough to leave and form another branch of the Anglican Church.

That means 90% either agree with the new learder's heresy, or are totally ate up with apathy; probably the latter, a lot of that going around lately.

Thanks
RC

really, the instant appearance of the "'pro-homo' lobby" is pretty decieving. they've been around for...what...40 years? if you want to blame someone for their recent visibility, blame the media. they've been pretty successful thus far is manufacturing the gay vs. conservative war.

Study: Older Brothers Increase Chances Men Will Be Gay

quote:

ORIGINAL: Fox News

Having several older brothers increases the likelihood of a man being gay, a finding researchers say adds weight to the idea that there is a biological basis for sexual orientation.

"It's likely to be a prenatal effect," said Anthony F. Bogaert of Brock University in St. Catharines, Canada. "This and other studies suggest that there is probably a biological basis for" homosexuality.

S. Marc Breedlove of Michigan State University said the finding "absolutely" confirms a physical basis.

"Anybody's first guess would have been that the older brothers were having an effect socially, but this data doesn't support that," Breedlove said in a telephone interview.

The only link between the brothers is the mother and so the effect has to be through the mother, especially since stepbrothers didn't have the effect, said Breedlove, who was not part of the research.

I mentioned this effect a couple of weeks ago (from an older study). This is a new study that confirms the previous findings.

Hiker02 -> RE: Homosexuality in the News (6/26/2006 4:28:03 PM)

I heard about this story today and it really bothers me.

quote:

A telephone message left for Prue's lawyer, Bettina Buehler, was not immediately returned. Buehler earlier charged that the state auditor's report was a political ploy amounting to gender discrimination motivated by Prue's sexual orientation. Prue is openly lesbian.

.

This woman pleaded guilty on a felony charge of embezzlement and yet she is the victim. I guess because she is lesbian we should look the other way and let her do what she likes while in office.

Here is the rest of the article.

I don't get that sense at all. She was convicted and had to resign from her office. The remark made about discrimination came from Prue's lawyer and is just a typical attempt to defend and deflect from her client's crime -- it's the sort of thing any good defense attourney would do. The article itself does not suggest that Prue was in any way the victim in this case, they just quoted what the lawyer had said.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. My issue isn't with the article itself, but it is with the lawyer and the client who are trying to use discrimination to "defend and deflect" the crime that was commited.

In my opinion, this woman committed a crime and therefore should deal with the consequences instead of trying to shift the blame onto someone else.

Okay - I understand. But the lawyer's statement is no surprise, it's a very common tactic to attempt to deflect the blame. At the very least they hope it will help reduce their punishment in some way. The lawyer was doing his/her job.

HOG WASH!! Its a sin.

tacitus -> RE: Homosexuality in the News (6/28/2006 6:56:14 PM)

Uh, whether or not it's a sin is beside the point. It's not hogwash (unless you can back up this statement). This is solid research that has been confirmed to be true. It's just basic statistics--the more older brothers you have, the greater your chance of being gay.

What does it matter what the cause is? Maybe you can rephrase it by saying that the more older brothers you have the more likely it is that you will fall into homosexual sin. Does that help?

In fact, if the cause is biological as the study suggests, then there maybe something that can be done by mothers during pregnancy that reduces those chances. One theory proposes that some kind of hormonal battle is caused between the female mother and the male fetus, and each time the mother carries a boy, the battle gets fiercer and more likely to affect the fetus's sexual identity. What if simply taking the right hormone supplements at the right time during the first weeks of pregnancy dramatically reduced the number of homosexuals being born? Would you not applaud that outcome? (Of course, it would be highly controversial, but I doubt many in the fundamentalist community would refuse the treatment).

He also hammers the use of contraceptives and the death penalty, but that is somehow conveniently ignored by the "values voters".
