I'm thankful that when we go through rough times, God still has His ways of bringing encouragement to us to help us through it. Of course His Word is the major source of encouragement. But I love how some times He brings us encouragement from sources quite unexpected.

I'm really really thankful for my job. Often times, I take it forgranted. But I know that God provided me with a really good, stable job so that finances will not be one of my problems as I raise my daughter.

I'm thankful that I don't have to work during the impending TTC strike. I'm taking vacation days. TTC strikes rarely last more than a couple of days.

I'm already working on a list of old movies.

I'm really thankful for God's mercy and for his faithfulness. Since I began walking with the Lord 13 years ago, the Lord has really ordered my steps and kept me on a short leash. I prayed and asked him to do that - to keep me on the narrow path. I desired to live righteously before him and He removed a lot of obstacles from my path so that I could do that. But, because I came to the Lord when I was in my 20s, I always felt like I missed out on being young, on finding myself, meeting people, etc. Instead, my 20s was full of depression, dealing with all sorts of unresolved issues, loneliness, and pain - with an occasional bright spot from the Lord. I really, really resented God for that (even though I'd prayed for it) and was feeling that if I had it to do over again I would have waited to be saved instead of giving the Lord my youth.

Well, within the past couple of years, God has given me liberty and permission to do a number of things I've always wanted to do when I was in my 20s (school, meeting people, traveling, etc.). While this has been great, what I'm gaining is a greater appreciation for the Lord and the wonderful gift that he gave me in my 20s. To be free from baggage, to be pretty stable emotionally, to know the Lord and walk with Him are priceless. Before, I served the Lord out of duty - because I promised Him that I would. And I always felt, deep down inside, like a wife who didn't want to be married but was just carrying out her role, her assignment. I felt trapped actually. And I just felt like the Lord had given me the leftovers and that He was in some ways second best. I knew theologically of course, that He wasn't - but emotionally - I couldn't shake that feeling. I never admitted it to other Christians because I was afraid of judgement. We can often be judgemental with one another - I know that I have been and still have to guard against that. I tried to "speak the word", cover it up, but at the core I still felt that way. Today, because of the liberty that God has given me and the experiences he has allowed me to have, I realize that although those things are nice, they are just trinkets compared to the Lord Himself. Everything else pales in comparison to Him.

The other day, I felt led to read pieces of Hosea. I knew that the Lord was showing me that I was Gomer. Well, that is not a flattering picture in the least - I felt horrible and didn't really want to read it to be honest. But ... when the Lord is going to administer correction I've learned that it is best to just lie still and accept it. It doesn't hurt nearly as badly as if I fight it. I think in my heart, that somewhere in that 13 years, my heart began to be bent away from the Lord even as externally I was following him. I heard from the Lord, did what He said, I loved Him dutifully, was even excited about what he was doing, but that personal deep love was not there. But, in reading Hosea, I found that he was emphasizing his faithfulness and how Gomer came back to Hosea - how he loved her still. What I am thankful for today is that in this year, I am desiring the Lord - I can say that I love Him. I think that I needed to see that these other things were nothing compared to Him - it was kind of like a clearing of all of the clutter - the obstacles to loving Him without reservation. I want to be close to him again - my heart is bent towards him again. I've kind of revealed a lot, but I'm so grateful for that today.

I'm thankful my cat has left me alone for a little while. He's cute and lovable, but a gigantic pest when my father is away. The cat will be eight this year.

I'm thankful for the beautiful world God has given us. I took off work yesterday and went walking in the woods (mushroom hunting, they were delicious) I saw so many truly beautiful places that after teh season I'll have to find some time and go in there with my camera. Wow! can God design a world or what!

I'm thankful for the tears i've shed today. Many were sad, some were happy, but I'm glad that I can feel the emotion and deal with it accordingly through the Lord.

How beautiful AngelInWaiting - I am glad for you today as well. It is a wonderful thing when the Lord shows us how to deal with emotions; tears though painful, can often be a beautiful thing. - Hold on to Matthew 5:4. Be blessed today.

I didn't finish a very important paper for a class and was thinking that the time had passed and that I'd have to take a much lesser grade, which would have ruined my GPA and would might have hindered me from doing further graduate study. I was just coming to peace with this fact and to be honest, feeling ashamed that I'd allowed myself to become overwhelmed and despondent over graduate school (it is a long story, but I got tangled up in a couple of projects earlier this semester which took a huge toll on me emotionally and I was dealing with the fallout over the last few weeks of the semester - not good timing ...). Well, my teacher contacted me today - out of the blue. He granted me an extension until Sunday and is giving me the chance to make up other assignments that I didn't complete. I just thank God for His mercy and for His grace. I know that part of God's plan for me will probably entail further education and I was very concerned that I'd "messed up" the plan by allowing myself to be overextended (lesson learned: seek God first in everything). But God is so merciful. I'm thankful today.

Thank you, Lord, for giving me yet another day; a day I don't truly deserve. Thank you, Lord, for family and friends that keep me going when I don't even know where I am going. And thank you, Lord, for Your grace and mercy.

I am thankful for 2 beautiful, healthy, happy children.

I am thankful for my church, who is helping me out in a desperate situation.

I am thankful that I can come to God with any problem, question or concern and He will handle it.

Plus I must say "ditto" to soccermom_4_life's post. It's perfect!

seeing new folks post in here!

I am thankful for His continual breaking of me - for loving me enough to want to mold me into His image, regardless of the pain. For His unending patience with me until I "get it". For still loving me when I have been so incredibly prideful and selfish and wanting to do it my way. For His love and grace and blessings that are so unwarranted.
