G'day to you all. My name is Marleneann and I live on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Australia. Just popped in to see what is going on here. I am a granny and love my grandchildren to bits. *G*

Hey Marleneann! Good to see another Queenslander (even if I'm only a ring in).

About two weeks after we moved up here X told me that Queenslanders are strange. I asked her what that made us then. She said we're different. I've been left wondering which definition of different that is. [&:]

Hi to all the newcomers to this thread [sm=funny.gif] I didn't realise we had so many Aussies and Kiwis running around these threads!!...lol

Rapture, you mentioned you came from Northwest Sydney. Does that mean you are near the Hillsong church? And if so, do you go to the Colour Conference? I've been the last 3 years - a group of us from our church go down and stay for the length of the conference. It has become a bit of a tradition amongst our women and more and more are joining us each year.

You asked about funny traffic stopping stories. It was not that long ago that our local radio station would give reports of cows, horses, goats and even chickens stopping traffic in our morning and evening peak hour traffic reports. The funniest one was about a chook which was trying to cross the F3 [major freeway heading between Newcastle and Sydney] during the morning peak hour. This road handles HUGE volume of traffic in the peak hours and a chook would not stand a chance! But apparently it made it safely to the other side of the road...eventually! [:D]

Hi Marleneann, glad to meet you. I must say you come from a beautiful part of the world [;)]. My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Maroochydore just over 29 years ago, and we have been back a few times, the last being a bit over a year ago to attend out niece's wedding.

I have been visiting your website and in fact I am listening to your wondeful island style music while I type this...makes me want to go on a holiday..lol[sm=flower.gif]

Hope to see you around here more often. [;)]

rapturefish -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/28/2005 6:29:26 PM)

Yep, I live just 7 minutes' drive from Hillsong Church in the Hills area. Some call it a bible belt area, there are quite a lot of church buildings around here. Even closer is another church called Dayspring which has about 1000 people, and MartinfromOz's church is pretty close to that one too. My one meets in the nearby school down the road. Both our churches are relatively new.

The Colour conference is getting bigger every year, I imagine! Being a guy though, I don't think I'll ever attend one.

Amazing how that chicken survived! Must have had an angel on its wing.

I heard on the radio the other day that a reindeer(!?!?) was blocking a freeway! The guy on radio said that a person called the authorities and said, "I'm not kidding, I think there's a reindeer on the road". They thought he sounded genuine, turned up and sure enough, there it was. They chased it around the place but it eventually got lost in the bush.

cheers,[:D][;)]

cherish405 -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/28/2005 8:40:05 PM)

Woohoo! More people!

Marleneann, so nice to meet you! Welcome to these parts. I'm sure you'll make many friends here.

Reindeer?! [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif][sm=icon_smile_boggled.gif] Yikes! Ok, that would officially be weird. Oh well, let's hope it has more fun out in the bush.

Everybody ready for a nice weekend? I think we're due to have some thunder here this weekend. May not be able to get out much.

Marleneann -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/29/2005 2:11:20 AM)

Thanks Cherish405.

Did you see the "Fuel Price" thread on the Forum. Some people are paying out of this world prices. I will never complain again when I fill up.

Hugs for my new friends,
Marleneann.

AussieMum -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/29/2005 3:02:13 AM)

Marleneann, I just posted a reply to you post in the Fuel thread. With the conversions [$AUD to $US and litre to gall], we do actually pay a lot more than the average American for fuel. But I think we pay less for a lot of food items so there is some comfort[;)]

Marleneann -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/29/2005 5:58:55 AM)

OOOOooopppssss..
I got such a shock at the price I didn't read the post properly.
Now... does that mean I go back to complaining about the cost when I get fuel? *G*

cherish405 -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/29/2005 6:08:03 AM)

For those of you who don't know, just call me Trish. It's a lot easier than cherish405.

I can't believe the petrol prices we are paying at the moment, but I'm grateful that they're not worse.

ausme -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/29/2005 9:47:44 AM)

Hi Everyone and MageeWhillikers,
I haven't been to NZ Les, but maybe one day ..... Have had great times flying into every airport on the South Island tho - courtesy of Microsoft Flight Simulator. When I crash my Cessna among those mountains, I just press the button and get another. Sure is a rugged grandeur and wouldn't mind seeing it at snowtime.

Speaking of travel and fuel prices, sure glad you had the mathematics to do all that conversion bit, Aussiemum. Me, I ride a pushbike everywhere these days. Nevertheless, when I go downtown, I still have to fuel up again to get back home. It usually takes a slice of carrot cake, with 2 scoops of icecream and a mugaccino.

I had a busy day. Started to albumise my digital photos - 7years/7000 - only 6900 to go!.
Then I got my will done and was feeling ... well ... rather mortified (ancient solicitor joke I believe, and they made sure that I caught on too lol).

God bless,
Buddy

Talking of New Zealand...In January this year my hubby and I cruised New Zealand on the new Sapphire Princess. This was a delayed retirement dream...it only took nine years to save for it! We stopped at the major ports and did the usual sight-seeing thing. New Zealand is beautiful and GREEN. That's what caught my eye. Green and fresh. I have some photographs on my website. Just click on the Sapphire Princess button.

*So your miserable because you have a speck of dust in your eye...what about the man who is blind*

Count Your Blessings - Marleneann~

cherish405 -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/29/2005 6:06:54 PM)

Yep, NZ sure is green. That's one thing I miss about there. Being in the west, I understand why they call us sandgropers. In NZ, this much sand would be a beach if it had water.

Nada -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/30/2005 5:58:22 PM)

I'm not either, I'm british but I have 2 Aussie brothers as my friends (but I think we've integrated them now) and know a NZ family quite well. And my aunt has just spent 3 months touring round both places and Japan. I'm jealous.,..

cherish405 -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (4/30/2005 11:17:49 PM)

Hi Nada! Welcome. Won't complain that you're not an Aussie or Kiwi. Everybody's welcome here.

My dad was born in Durham, so can't complain about you being British either. LOL.

ausme -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 4:28:07 AM)

Hi Nada,
How's Britain?
I watch your Songs of Praise every Sunday after church. It's a great programme and I love those cathedrals with the great sounds coming off those stone walls,
Buddy

Nada -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 7:51:04 AM)

actually sunny for once! There is blue skies visible through the whiteness of the clouds. I'm normally at Church when Songs of Praise is on, it kind of bores me. And we have a May Day tommorow *celebrates* No college. Yay!

Marleneann -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 9:06:36 AM)

I posted this question then realized that only "Aussies" would know what I was on about. So I will ask it again in this group.

Everyone (in my circle of friends) is talking about the Bali 9. Some heated discussions have developed and I was wondering what this forum of Christians had to say about the matter.

McGuinessMagee -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 9:08:58 PM)

I think they were a group of very foolish, naive young people who may or may not have known what they were getting into before they left Australia. [:o]

But at least one of them knew enough that something wasn't on the up and up about it that he lied to his parents and said he was going to Cairns rather than tell them he was being given a ticket to Bali. [:(]

Kylie[sm=silly.gif]

cherish405 -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 9:25:27 PM)

Yeah, I don't think they made the wisest of decisions. That's just my personal opinion.

So how has everybody's weekend been?

McGuinessMagee -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 9:44:05 PM)

I've been having a great weekend with shopping and visitors and making furniture. I think I'm going to need a rest come Tuesday. [:D]

Dh has worked both Saturday and today so it hasn't really been that much of a long weekend for us, plus having J sick at the end of the week, but we've enjoyed it anyway.

Dh and I even had time to sit down and watch Terminator III last night. I think the scene where she puts her arm through the guy will win my award for 'Grossest Scene in a Movie', but then I don't watch many gory films.

cherish405 -> RE: Calling all Aussies and Kiwis and their admirers (5/1/2005 9:51:20 PM)

Glad you're having a good time, Kylie. How's your knee?
