ORIGINAL: LizBet83 Hi I'm in Perth. Been here a little over 2 years. Moved here from South Africa. Liz Liz, another Perth person?! Woohoo! I'm in the northern suburbs. Where are you? Good to meet you by the way! Kylie, I saw the news report about the fire. I didn't catch the family's name either. Wow, that would have been incredibly hard.

Hi Kylie: At first I found it rather hard, as I struggled to get a job for ages, and also make friends. I found a church and through that (the young adults group, which is rather large) have made many friends, and a few really good ones. Many things are similar, just the odd name of things and sometimes the way things are done. Trish: I'm actually living south of the river. Great to meet you too. Liz

How is everyone today? I finished the knitting and my granddaughter is thrilled with the scarf and beanie. Actually I have just started on a balaclava for my grandson. Now this could be a problem ...knitting in the round. If I have problems I have friends who will bear with me.*G* The weather here is quite good considering it is winter. The night temps are still above average. We have had showers the last few days and I haven't had to water the garden which is great. My hubby is amused that I have an electric blanket over a clothes airer in the laundry to create enough warmth in the room for my phalaenopsis orchids. I place a blanket over it and it gives off enough heat to keep the room at a steady 20 degrees C. The things we do for love! Hugs for you all Marleneann.

Hi everybody. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. We've been getting quite a few storms here, with plenty of thunder and lightning. How's everybody's weekend going? Have to go grocery shopping this afternoon. If I can, I'll head to church in the morning. Still have this upper respiratory tract infection, which I'll be so glad to get rid of. Other than that, planning on a quiet weekend. Marleneann, good to see you've finished the scarf and beanie. I don't know how to do beanies, but I'm getting some practice on the scarves. I was knitting some more last night, and will probably do some more later.

Alison, I worship at Immanuel Lutheran Church. I have a few pages for the church on my website. http://home.iprimus.com.au/marleneann/new_page_9.htm I hear you have a fine COC school in Caloundra as well. Its a lazy Sunday afternoon. Went to church this morning at Mooloolaba Uniting . This is Fred's (hubby) church and we alternate each sunday so we can worship together. The new knitting is not going too well and I have had to start again *boo hoo* Hope you are all well and happy. Hugs, Marleneann.

Yes Lady, Australia has a long history of pubs and socialising. A lot of the young people in our youth groups go to the pubs or clubs, but often do not drink alcohol. The pubs and clubs are where a lot of the up and coming bands play so they like to go to listen and support them. We do have some seedy bars of course but I guess it is easy enough to avoid them. The reasoning behind a lot of the kids going to these places is that, that is where the young people [and older people] hang out so if we are to be out there with the people we need to be in the bars too. I know of a few 'evangelists' who actually make it a point to go to the bars to get to know the people there in an effort ot witness to them. They have had a good effect if done the right way... I would not be too worried about your b/f unless he is drinking heavily and regularly. Friday nights is typically the night when all the people from work will get together to 'de-brief' about the week and just hang out. Having said that though, not all Aussies hang out in these places. My hubby, who has only been a Christian for 4 years, did not make a practice of hanging out in the pub/club every week...although, there was always drinks laid on at his workplace on a Friday afternoon. He is the boss, so he provided it, and continues to do it now for the guys that work for him. It is a chance to relax and reward them for a hard weeks work, and gives him the opportunity to talk to them other than as the boss.

Hi Julie, Thanks so much for the 411 on that (information). I am glad to see bf and his coworkers are not out of the norm. I don't know if he is drinking too much, that is a concern for both of us (him more than me, but we both have drank too much mainly at home by ourselves...alone). I gave up alcohol for lent and that seem to inspire him. I would rather frankly see him drink out with workmates than drink a lone at home. There is no way for me to check on this without prying questions...and I am trying not to keep being a mother hen. The hardest thing is he goes with some ladies he works with sometimes (other times guys and gals). This of course makes my green-eyed monster come up. I pryed and asked "are you interested in so and so? How about so and so?" He was like "No. Why?" I had to answer truthfully "I am just jealous, insecure." Not my most brightest moment. One lady is divorced with kids...she is now coming along with him to church with is a good thing. I am ashamed of myself for quizzing him. I have guy friends and I would feel the same way if he quizzed me. I also brought up some guy who likes me who makes it obvious just to make him jealous, which sort of worked. Sad...pathetic. I am now going to re-read the Love Chapter in Cor....Love is not jealous, this week. I was all "Did you tell all your coworkers about me?" And he was all "Yes". When he told me that he told his coworkers about me, he said they "could not believe I came out there to Oz to visit him". Why that is hard to believe, I dunno. I think it is a great thing to get together with coworkers and talk about God, life. He found out his coworkers are an atheist (some guy), an Orthodox Christian lady, some Protestant type Christian ladies, a lasped Catholic...etc. I can remember when he was on the internet too much and had no job. I was not happy about that, wanted him to be more social. He is also taking divorced mother lady to his Home Group for bible study. I am very glad he is attending bible study (he stopped going for awhile). I guess I just wanted reassurance his workmates were not abnormal in their pub every week thing. My friend's Aussie coworkers here in California, some of them get very drunk when they go out on Fridays, but not all. I remember though going with friends when I lived in England and we did not get plastered every time we went out, it was more social. Also, I did go to pubs when I was in Oz and it was really neat...very social. About your husband, that is very cool he provides drinks. In America, we are paranoid about lawsuits so not all work places do that anymore sadly. Anyway, thanks again.

Like the others have said, it's pretty normal for people to go to pubs/bars here in Australia. I don't go to pubs as I personally don't feel comfortable in them. As the others have said though, there are people who go to them with the intention of witnessing to others there.

I have my sister from Crows Nest (Queensland) visiting me for a few days. We took her out for dinner tonight. I will be going to church tomorrow morning and if the weather is OK will go for a walk along the beach in the afternoon. Yes... there certainly was a nip in the air here this morning. I put another blanket on our bed. Hope you all have a nice weekend. Hugs, Marleneann.

Sure was cold here over the weekend. We wondered what hit us. Admittedly it wasn't like snowfield type cold, or even Canberra/Tasmania cold, but it was cold enough for me.

I have received the Australian Organ Donor forms in my mail box. I feel I would want to use others organs if my loved ones needed them...so maybe I should return the favour. My husband said he hasn't any good organs to give away so he is declining to fill in the forms. I would be interested to know your thoughts on the subject. Is there any place in the bible I can go for guidance? Hugs, Marleneann.

Is there any place in the bible I can go for guidance? Hugs, Marleneann. Hiya Marleneann, Can only give you my opinion on this one. Nothing is written in the bible directly as far as I know. Jesus said to love your neighbour as yourself so if you feel this is you motivation, there is nothing to stop you and, from what i've seen on tv, there are many grateful recipients out there. As for our bodies, once they have died we're outa here - as it were - and God has promised to change us and give us immortal, incorruptible bodies. 1Cor.15 will tell you all about it. Just do your usual and pray to Jesus about it. Hope it helps, Buddy
