Tammy, I actually continued to temp when I went to CA, just for interest's sake. I was getting up on average two hours later, at a location three hours behind mine, not to mention a whole lot hotter. My temps for that weekend were about a degree (celcius) higher than the ones from back home. I think it's worth temping while travelling just to get a feel for how it changes your temps. I tell ya one thing, the whole temping at the same time every day thing sure is making me sleep properly, or at least try. I'm used to catching up on the weekends and that's definitely harder when I wake up at 6 am to temp. Really should go to bed at 10 every evening but it's just not gonna happen anytime soon!

Fortunately, I can usually manage to go back to sleep after I temp. I traveled by plane to Michigan on Wed. (3 hours later than Phoenix time), and I still don't think my temps have quite settled themselves with the time change. Fortunately, I was in phase 3 and just started phase 1, so it didn't matter too much if my temps weren't accurate. If you use an online program to chart, some of them will let you adjust the temperature for taking it at a different time. I don't use one, but maybe someone else knows. PS- Congrats!! Enjoy being engaged- I was so happy I felt like I was floating half the time. Enjoy planning the wedding!

Christine, How did you decide to interpret your chart? Did your temps stay low, thus indicating a short phase III and begining of phase I - or did the temps eventually rise indicating a delayed ovulation?

I have no clue. I had a 7-day bleeding; same as my periods. My temps were just as they are after my period when I finished bleeding. But it's been a week since I finished bleeding and I haven't had any fertile mucous. I don't have any clue what happened. I'm still charting for the same month. Today would be day 29 of that cycle.

Well ... My temp went up and down. Never a true spike, but not flat-lined. But it's hard to know for sure what it was doing last week because I was sick; I'm not sure if I had a fever or if my temp was just higher.

From my own experience, (which is frequent upper respiratory illnesses) I tend to get sick in Phase I which alters my low temp level with low grade fevers or just higher than average temps then follows with a delayed ovulation. I will see a patch of mucous (2-4 days) but no definitive temp elevation. Then this is followed by a few dry days, followed by another patch of mucous with corresponding temp elevation. During months when it is difficult for me to discern a solid HTL, I rely moreso on mucous and cervical position. This month, for example, I had a few disturbed temps during phase I and II. A fertile mucous patch followed by drying up and three temps at my normal HTL. While I could not see a definite LTL pattern, I can see that I am now at the HTL with a corresponding mucous pattern and my cervix is firm and closed. We chose to resume relations as it **appears** I ovulated and am no longer fertile. Not textbook -- and not securely within the 'rules', but the best I can do with frequent temp disturbances.

Yeah. Tomorrow's our anniversary, so we bought some condoms and will just deal. I'll figure it out next month.

Anne-girl, I've never been able to figure out the high and low either. My uterus is tipped though, and that may be why. I base my observations on firm or soft and open or closed. Well, I did anyway, when I was actually doing it. Right now, I am just watching my mucous and not temping or checking my cervix, or even purposely abstaining when I *might* be fertile. The reason is we KNOW we want one more baby and nothing needs to change before that happens. I'm already at home with the kids, we moved into a HUGE house right before Hannah was born, we have a vehicle big enough for two more, etc. I still find it interesting to watch my body's signs, but we are more or less leaving this one completely up to God. Strangely, I am totally at peace with that!

I think high or low has to do with how far forward or back. When I was checking, there were times when it was fairly easy to reach, and times when it was much farther back.

My temperature usually drops by about a degree either the day it starts or the day after my period starts.

Question: How do you do the internal check (and cervix check too) without getting confused. maybe I'm a little slow but I have gotten so confused that I just go with the outside check because I have so much cm anyway. Should I start checking the internal cm? I'm on my 4th cycle charting and so far I haven't had to worry or betoo careful b/c I'm stilla virgin, but I'm getting married in three weeks and want to be very careful. Any recommendations for making the internal check easier? BTW - I am so happy to have found this bored. I've been posting about charting on the newleywed Sex&Romance board from theknot.com b/c there are some NFPers there, but the ones who aren't can be very cruel. Yeah for Christian community!!!

Welcome Kirs. I didn't know theknot had any NFPers. Must have changed a lot since I was there. I don't actually check my cervix; but I don't have any external mucus so I have to do the internal check to crosscheck with my temperature. I use my temperature mainly, but use the internal mucus as a back up.

Gotta ask a question, but don't have time right now. I wanted to put a post in here to remind me to ask later today.

I started using the Diva Menstrual Cup this week, and now I'm a little confused with my fluid. I'm at the end of my period (day 6), so I am experiencing the normal light, light flow of light brown blood (sorry if this is TMI). As I removed my Diva Cup last night I noticed a fluid between creamy and early eggwhite. This was before the cup was out though, so it shouldn't have been cervical fluid - right? Then when I took the cup out there was a little bit of light brown blood, but there was a more whitish opaque-ish fluid that had the consistency of eggwhite fluid. Is this normal to have at the end of a period and I've just never noticed it b/c of tampons? I know that I ovulated this last cycle - it was acutally the strongest thermal shift I've charted, and the cervical fluid coincided with it pretty well, so I know the period wasn't just spotting. I have a very long cycle - 32-39 days and my earliest ovulation has been on day 22, so this shouldn't be indicative of ovulation - what do you think? BTW - I don't have any other signs of an infection of any sort.

Yeah - NFP is going really well - I have so much more regular than I thought I would be. I was just concerned b/c I'm getting married in a little over two weeks and definately do not want a Honeymoon baby, so I'm being very careful to interpret this right! :)

Kirs, I get that too. It's just your normal cervical fluid. The reason it seems like a lot is that the cup is collecting it--you're seeing several hours' worth, rather than what's there when you check throughout the day. Essentially you're checking by a different method than the opening check, or the vaginal check, and the one thing they emphasize is that you should check the same way throughout. So I wouldn't start checking it until your period is done unless you get a very long stretch of spotting.

Didn't someone mention a while ago something about low temps? My temps are most of the time in the 96.6-97.0 range. Was it a thyroid issue? My sister found out a while ago she has throid cancer, so they took out her thyroid. The pathology report came back yesterday that she had something called Hashimoto's disease, even though all her thyroid levels always came back normal. It's very hereditary, so now I'm wondering if I have the same thing and it's contributing to all my hormonal issues .... Sherry

Sherry, yes, low temps are a sign of thyroid problems. I'm wondering if you should have it checked out since you're having itching all over your body too. Here's a link to a website I found on the thyroid. It tells you how to "test" yourself using iodine. Sometimes blood tests just don't register the problem.
