Just finished "Hold the Cream Cheese, Kill the Lox" a Ruby the Rabbi's Wife Mystery by Sharon Kahn. Just started the next in the series, "Which Big Giver Stole the Chopped Liver?" These are fun easy murder mysteries along the same lines of the Miss Marple series.

Now reading "O Jerusalem" by Larry Collins & Dominique Lapierre

I am reading this because our family is taking a trip to Israel.

Hi I am new to this first time I have ever tried. I am currently reading The Pebble and the Tower. It is great! An allegory based on our search for truth, can't put it down I see myself in every character. I am particularly found of Mrs. Turtle. Has anyone else read this book would love to hear your thoughts?

When She Was White: The True Story of a Family Divided By Race by Judith Stone

The story of a woman born to white, pro-apartheid parents in South Africa, who carries the skin and hair features of a mixed race child. Her features are attributed to an interracial union in her family's history. The government reclassified her race as coloured (mixed race) according to their laws, and she lost many of the rights given to the rest of her family. Later, when the law was changed, she was classified as white again.

An interesting look at the politics of race in apartheid South Africa, as well as a thoughtful insight into the way we classify race, even today.

I just started "A Tale of Two Sons" by John MacArthur. Very in-depth study of the "Prodigal Son" parable. I was there when he preached the sermons that the book is based on, but still I am very much enjoying it. Lot of cultural stuff explained. I love it when he does books like this and "Because the Time is Near" and "The Murder of Jesus."

Dark Tort - By Diane Mott Davidson

It's a murder mystery, but the main character is a caterer who gets caught up in the investigation by accident. Page one is a recipe for Chocolate dipped fruit. There are 15 more recipes in the back of the book.

Almost every mystery series these days has a "gimmick." 'I'm not saying that there aren't some that are good reads, but it's getting really silly. My 18 yo loves mysteries and it's hard to find any with fairly young protagonists and not some kind of theme that is totally off-putting to her. I would guess it's even worse for guys who like mysteries because so many of these themes are feminine.
