Tonight I was reminded once again why I love these guys so much.

Before the concert, I mentioned to Frank that my son's birthday is next Sunday and I asked him if the guys could maybe sing happy birthday to him out there in the lobby. Frank said that he might be able to go one better. He told Scott Fowler about it and Scott, from the stage, dedicated Walk With Me (my son's second favorite L5 song) to Jeffrey for his upcoming birthday! He was absolutely thrilled! The guys closed the concert with his favorite song, I Found Grace. Afterwards, each of the guys wished him a happy birthday.

I also did something tonight that I got from this board. I don't remember which thread it was but I read where several of y'all have the artists autograph a hymnal on the page of a hymn that means something to them. I thought that was a good idea so I bought a hymnal and had the guys sign it tonight. Poor Glenn spent ten minutes looking at it before he decided which one to sign. He said there were so many that mean a great deal to him which made it difficult to decide which one to sign. Tim was all set to sign a specific hymn but found out that Scott Howard had already signed that one so Tim picked another one.

We got to spend some good quality time with the guys tonight, both before and after the concert. I really appreciate the fact that the guys will go out of there way to accomodate us fans and I told that to Frank. He said they enjoy spending time talking to people and getting to know them.

I'll probably write more later.

I didn't mean to end that previous post so abruptly but my son is still wound up from the concert and I had to calm him down!

I decided tonight that I am no longer going to use my digital camera at concerts. The pictures turn out too dark, even with plenty of light in the place. So, I'll be going back to my bulky 35mm camera with a 500mm zoom lens. I don't like carrying around something that big but at least most of the pictures turn out okay. Anyway, I wasn't able to get any quality pictures tonight. That was the only negative of the evening.

As I talked with each of the guys before the concert tonight, I told them that they will probably get sick of seeing us by the end of May because we were seeing them tonight, February 8, April 4, and Memorial Day weekend. Each one of them had the same response. They wouldn't get sick of us but we might get sick of them!

I told them that wouldn't happen!

I can't remember if it was Glenn or Scott Howard but one of them said that by the end of May my son and I would know all the words to their songs and all of their jokes. I told him that we already knew all the lyrics!

Speaking of May, Frank told me that their next project for Daywind might be completed and released by the Memorial Day Weekend Celebration. At least that is what they are shooting for. I don't want to steal their thunder so I am not going to tell you what they are doing (unless they tell me I can) but I think most of you will like it. I got excited when I heard what it was!

All in all, my son and I had a wonderful time with the guys tonight, as we always do. No matter how down I might be feeling before seeing them, my spirits are always way up after!

Come on now...that's just wrong! You shouldn't hold info from your fellow L5 brothers and sisters. At a concert a few weeks ago, Tim sang a solo that really touched my wife and I. We had just gotten good news about an illness my son has, and when Tim started singing a song called "God's Been Good", we knew that God has speaking to us.
The next day a e-mailed Scott F. about this and he siad that they have plans to include that song on thier next recording....I can't wait!

Okay, okay, I'll tell you.

It is going to be a traditional SG recording with only piano and vocals such as the way the Statesmen and Cathedrals did in their early recordings. I absolutely love that type of SG! That's why I got excited when Frank told me about it. I know some prefer the 12 piece bands but I know there are a bunch of SG fans who prefer or love the simplicity of piano and vocals. The DMB's last three CD's were just piano, bass, and vocals and they were great!

I knew I couldn't keep that to myself for very long!

I almost forgot. Frank did tell me that there is a second project in the works too but he did not give me any details on that one. However, that means that we have two new projects to look forward to this year!

It's a good thing that we don't have to pay a fee every time we post on here or I would be more broke than I already am. Especially after I attend a concert. It seems like everytime I make a post about a concert I went to I think about something else that I wanted to mention.

I wanted to talk about Tim Parton a little bit. I am very glad that he has blended in so well with the group. Coming in behind Roger had to be really tough for him. But, from what I have seen, the fans have really embraced him. Personally, I think the credit for that can be divided evenly between him and the fans. For one thing, L5 fans are just super cool and they have given Tim a chance. The fans have accepted him, supported him, and made him feel welcome.

Secondly, Tim is a fantastic pianist! I was watching him tonight when he did his piano solo. I was in the second row so I had a perfect view of him and the keyboard. His hands were moving so fast that they were literally a blur! And he didn't miss a note either. The guy is truly blessed with talent. God definitely sent the right guy to the group when He sent them Tim Parton.

AND Roger picked him out!! I think that's wonderful and has really helped the adjustment!

When I was talking to Scott, I mentioned some of the positive things being said about the group here on the boards. He said, "It's really nice to hear some POSSITIVE comments for a change." I replied that L5 is LOVED here, and he should give us a read sometime. This made me a little sad. While he didn't say what the 'negative' comments were, I am having a hard time understanding what anyone would have to say that was BAD about them. They are the REAL THING if there ever was one. It always amazes me how people can be so self-centered and hateful. I just got the feeling that they needed some genuine encouragement. We should all send them a encouraging e-mail from time to time. I think they need it.

It's so easy to criticize, but too few people take the time to encourage and compliment. You are right, L5MAN, we all need to take time to communicate to those groups who mean so much to us!

Last night when I told Scott Howard about all the concerts my son and I are going to in the next couple of months, he jokingly said "Y'all ought to just ride the bus with us." He doesn't know how close he came to getting two new bus mates!

Based on things that were said last night, I'm pretty sure that at least one of the guys gets on here and reads this stuff from time to time. The reason I believe that is that a couple of usernames were mentioned in passing, including mine, and I've never told them my username. It just never came up in the conversations when the board was mentioned.

If they read the posts from the last 12 hours, I think they will be encouraged by what I have written. Encouraged or scared to death and never talk to me again!

By the way, my concert report where I listed the songs they sang is on page 65 I believe of the recent concerts thread.

The Who Am I thread got me to thinking about something. On the last page of the February Singing News under the Looking Ahead section it reads: "Since this groups beginnings in the 1990s, they've won two Singing News Fan Awards and have had one No. 1 song on the Singing News Top 80 chart. They've also appeared on the cover of Singing News twice. Who are they? You'll find them on the cover once again on next month's Singing News."

I think it is L5. They started in the 1990s (1999), won two fan awards as a group (Horizon Group and Favorite Traditional Male Quartet), and have had 1 number one song (I Found Grace). The only thing I am not sure of is how many times they have been on the cover of Singing News. There is also a picture of Scott Fowler on the last page and under the Things To Do section, their 2008 Celebrations are mentioned.

It makes sense that it would be Legacy Five on the cover of the March issue since March will mark the one year anniversery of Roger's passing.

Anyway, I may be wrong but that is who I think it will be, based on what little I know.

That's what I was told last night.

You know, I've heard Gerald Wolfe and Ed O'Neal say that the record companies don't think that type of traditional SG will sell anymore and usually resist when groups want to go that way with a recording. The truth is fans do enjoy it and will buy it. Maybe the record execs need to visit the forums and see what most of us have to say on the subject.

Yes, there are some groups where the traditional SG songs and arrangments wouldn't work such as BF&A because that isn't their style, but for others such as L5, GV, and the DMB, people expect that every now and then and look forward to it. The record companies need to listen to the artists and fans more and stop resisting when groups want to do something like that.

Oh, and I wasn't specifically referring to Daywind and the upcoming L5 project. I have no idea what the company thought or said on that one.

It may work occasionally for any group. I know BF & A could pull it off. It may just sell because it was different. I would buy one. But that wouldn't hardly make it profitable.

You are so right DeeAnn. Right now there are over 3000 guest viewing the forums. Wonder how many of them are artist. We should be careful what we say and keep it at least constructive.

I definitely did not mean what I wrote as a slam against BF&A. I've seen them in concert twice and I like them. It's just that their style is quite different than the traditional SG style. I honestly can't imagine them doing it the traditional way, which is why I used them as my example.

Jeff--L5 had been on the cover of the Singing News twice. Once way back near when they started and then August of 2006.

I did not mean to insinuate that. I guess my post was a little to blunt. I'm sory. What I meant to say is that with the member of BF & A and their background even though they do not do traditional style now they could. I don't know if their fans would accept it on a regular basis and theyprobably would not. But maybe one or two times would go over. Sorta like the Imperials and their Back to the Roots CD. It is not typical of the current group but it has been received well by their fans. But I don't think they would on a regular basis. I just think any group that does four part harmony could get away with it once or twice.

I've invited Scott F. over here a couple of times......I am gonna guess this, but I think he is registered here but has not posted.

I love L5!! I always look forward to my July concert!!! I will admit (and I feel sometimes like some of you wanna shout, "GET OVER IT ALREADY!!") but L5's popularity with me really did hinge heavily on Roger Bennett. His loss was a great grief and sorrow to me. I still like the L5 guys--they really are a great bunch! I got to hear Tim live once, and look forward to it again! How could I not support my boys?!?! I love 'em!

Jeff--L5 had been on the cover of the Singing News twice. Once way back near when they started and then August of 2006.

Then it would seem that my guess may be right. It probably is L5 who will be on the cover of the March issue! If I had actually read the last page before I went to the concert last night I would have asked them. Oh well, I can ask them when I see them on the 8th.

There's no need for you to be sorry.

When I looked back at my post, I realized that it could have been taken that way and that was not my intention, so I felt that I needed to clear that up anyway. It is easy for posts to be taken out of context just like lines from songs can be taken out of context as we've seen in the 'songs you disagree with" thread.

Thanks Jeff! I always enjoy reading your concert reports! keep em coming.

PM me, I am dieing to hear about the new project, and I promise not to tell anyone else on the boards, especially Tina!!!!!

You mean you wouldn't share secrets with your dear old friend?!?!

THAT'S EXCITING!!! And wer're glad you DIDN'T KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!

I wonder what or where the negative comments were?? Surely not here, you are right, L5MAN! I'm pretty sure none of those comments were from me....

and I agree: They can definitely use an encouraging email from time to time! I sent Tim one about a month ago just to welcome him and ask his birthday and he replied kindly (of course! ) And he pointed out that he is the YOUNGEST member of Legacy Five!!

Based on things that were said last night, I'm pretty sure that at least one of the guys gets on here and reads this stuff from time to time. The reason I believe that is that a couple of usernames were mentioned in passing, including mine, and I've never told them my username. It just never came up in the conversations when the board was mentioned.

Was MINE mentioned?!?!??
