I gave up trying to grip the stem. To get it out I give a "push" and just grab the bottom of the cup, run my finger up the side to break the seal, and then pull it out. When I was trying to remove it by the stem, I had no success and feared a trip to the emergency room to get it taken out for me. LOL

I've been using the Instead Cup for almost a year now and I'm so glad i read about it one night here on CW! It's eliminates messiness, leaks, and especially ordors! I don't have a bulky pad irritating me all day or wondering if it showing if i wear snug pants. I'm still trying to master the removal part as far as spilling goes when removing it but otherwise, I'm sold on this product.

I just found the instead product at wal mart this past week and purchased it today.
My time is due shortly and we shall give'er a go!

I went to the website to see what else was up with this DISPOSABLE menstrual cup and discovered it is OKAY to have Intimate relations (Or "IT"  ) with this cup *Ahem* Inserted! See the info on this --> HERE <-- one of the snippets from the page :

We "go on hold" here during that time of the month. I am not sure about the disposable thing though. We shall see. I got these to Step into the products like the diva cup. Instead doesn't "form a seal" like the diva cup does. It really does kinda look like a diaphram with a softer plastic "cup" that is a bit deeper. I plan to be careful and do the wing thing while I wear this one till I know how It is gonna work. Still cruising thru the products website...
::UPDATE:: they have a video page that shows a GYN doc with a clear model showing how to insert and remove in the "how it works"clip (She does this with a few teaspoons of blue water INSIDE the soft cup and doesn't spill any of it.  ) and then they have animated directions in the "How to insert clip" and "How to Remove"clips.

hi all, i used to have a diva cup thread on the last forums before the changeover.
Anyhoo, I've had mine for several months, and love it to death. I was a pretty hard sell on something like that though.
another good thing about the diva cup though is that i dont think it can do any damage inside you.
I had two wicked falls on cement and tile floors a few months back, where i went straight up and then straight down on my tailbone (bruised is quite well) but anyways, i thought it odd that i didn't get hurt from having the diva in. sometimes while wearing tampons and falling, riding a horse, or other things it feels as if a tampon pokes or hurts me.not sure why. anyways i was glad to find out that it caused no pain or tears etc..
the most i have to buy for pads and supplies now is maybe 1 bag of ultra thin pads every 5 months or so... I used to have to buy at least 2 big boxes of super tampons, 1 double pack of overnight long pads, and 1 double bag of super long pads to try and get me through 1 period. this was my typical monthly purchase, about $20.00 a month. Yikes!
I love my Diva !!!

We have a Septic tank and I have thought of what the eventual 3 of us females would be putting into it monthly with tampax use. They can say what they will I can see where Toilet paper would dissolve but I really don't think that the tampax would be as quick to make an exit. I had been told to remove and wrap in tissue and dispose of in trash... UH NO WAY!
DIFFICULTY explaining the benefits of menstrual cups to female friends and relitives?
My sister (2 years younger than me) is very  about it. I told her that Sure I made a mess the very first time I removed it but It is a learning experiance and the next time no problems! less mess on my hands than if I'd of been dealing with a tampon and pad... Tampon always leaked, I had always used BOTH. She still thought  . and I was dealing with the INstead cup, the disposable one!!! I mentioned the others that you rinse and reuse... I thought she'd lose her cookies, AND she was a Certified Nursing Aid!!!
Oh well I tried to convert her~ I guess she'd rather go on bleeding into her clothes. She is another Tampon and pad user cause of leaking.
I am seriously thinking about doing the diva cup. My husband suggested maybe TWO of them so that one could be doing the vingar/water soak (disinfecting) while I used the other. I think HE is more comfy with my use of the INstead disposable. I dunno about the diva being lower in the vaginal area than the instead cup is. I hated the tampon because I always KNEW it was there and exactly WHERE it was. The INstead cup is actually behind the pubic bone more like a big diaphram(sp?)

I said "Well, honey, it's designed so that you can push something out of it! I don't think things get stuck!" he finally got it. LOL

My husband grew up with 6 sisters.... all older than he was. Nothing about the way our bodies work suprises him, he even went to the store during one of his classes in high school and purchased "emergency supplies" for me. He had nephews and nieces older than he was. I think his concern about the re-use is alot of my fault. I would play and say "Unclean! Unclean!" at that time of the month to abstain from "IT" and naturally he has come to the conclusion that it The, menstrual discharge, is "unclean" although THAT is not what I was refering to as unclean. I was refering to the fact that we would both be NASTY if IT took place and therefore need a bath.

I'm still working on getting the diva positioned properly. Sometimes I know it's there, sometimes it's a little annoying, and sometimes, I forget about it completely. I think it probably takes a couple months to get the hang of it.
I've not had any "messes" at all though once I didn't have it in right and it leaked a little...but nothing worse than what I've experienced with pads and tampons. At least it's not making more gross garbage and it's not dangerous to my body like the dioxins present in the pads and tampons might be. Plus, the diva cup doesn't hurt when you pull it out like a tampon sometimes does, if you're too dry....

I've yet to fully master the Diva Cup but I'm determined it WILL work for me. The first 2 months I had no problems. Then lots of problems with leakage on the first day. Now I've got that ok but leakage during the lighter days. Good grief. Oh well, next one is coming soon so I get to try again!!

It took me about 3 or 4 months to really get the hang of it. I think this month was the first month that I didn' have any "accidents" to speak of. One month I had leakage so bad I might as well have not had it in.

I love my cups! I use both Intead and Diva and love them both!
I don't know how many of you have tried it, but in response to a previous post, my husband and I "had relations" with the Instead cup in the other night (close to the end of my period) and he didn't even know it was there. I was worried that it might leak, but it didn't; it didn't move at all, and there was no discomfort. Yah!!!!

I am using the DivaCup right now, this is the first cycle. I can feel it, but that doesn't really bother me. I have had NO leakage at all! I just make sure that it has the right suction by pushing it up a little then trying to pull down, if I wont pull down then I know that it has strong suction.
A little bit on the Instead softcup. I tried those the first day of this period and it did not work me at all. I could not position it right, my cervix is pretty far up I could barely reach it with my finger. If one can reach her cervix then I suspect the Instead softcup would work well.

Okay.... I've been following this thread. I also read the old thread on the CW site about diva cups.
I'm comtemplating making the move myself, as I think it will help with heavy flow issues as I am approaching the change-- I have experienced irregularity of flow.
I want to do this in "mini" steps, kinda like Ezri (Hi Ez!)
So tonight, I purchased a box of Instead cups. I've successfully conquered placing one... I think....
Anyway, I've got a pad on as well and will head to bed in a bit. I must say they are alot more comfortable than I expected when I took it out of the pouch. Thankfully. I think if I become comfortable caring for myself during menstruation in this fashion, I'll consider making the move to the keeper or diva cup.

The method isn't more common because for some reason, it grosses people out. It's so much LESS gross than pads or tampons. I do not understand why it took me nearly six years to come around and actually try this thing.
As to the comfort thing, I don't know. I have had problems getting my diva cup positioned properly, but when it IS properly inserted, I don't feel a thing.

I was just talking with my student assistant about the Instead cup. We went to the site and looked at the videos.
She is very excited and intrigued. She is not American.
We both think that the reason there isn't as much talk about these products probably has to do with the way American society views body functions and hygeine.
Europeans generally have a much more well adjusted view of their bodily functions and are less frantic about deodorizing, shaving and wash, wash, washing every few moments.
I think if a woman is familiar enough with her body to insert a tampon... she could learn to do this. But I agree the teen magazines aren't going to advertise a product that has a high "ick" factor with young teens.
I mean think about it.... sadly some young American girls/women don't even know how their bodies really function.
Oh and ladies.... as for cost factor: I bought a box of 12 softcups for just under six dollars. The directions state that you can wear each cup for up to 12 hours. (2 a day)
If my menses were regular length (which they sadly aren't... I'm on an extended run...) I could use one box per cycle!!! How's that for economical?

Wow I love hearing all of these cup stories!
I'm a personal advocate of the permanent cups because:
a) one of my biggest reasons for going permanent was to save the environment by not adding more waste to it.
b) i'm one of those women who can't reach their cervix with their fingers, so the instead cup makes 0 sense physically.
c) I have decided to abstain from sexual relations with my husband for the week of my menses. I think that this was a good design from God in the beginning, and still is. My hubby will just want me more when I'm done ;)
What great stories! Good tips too.

RE: the being able to reach your cervix and the instead soft cup... I cannot reach my cervix and it works well for me. Zero leakage. I think this may have more to do with the Pubic bone. I CAN feel that and I can make sure the Instead soft cup is behind it.
Landabee, I know what you mean about it being more comfy inside than it looks like it can be when you first open it up... that big pink rim was a bit disconcerting but like the directions read, it softens with your body heat.
I don't wanna gross anyone out but this isn't exactly a TMI thread now is it~
I decided this past cycle to wash and reuse my instead soft cup. I used two of them my entire 5 day cycle. I would remove and dump the first one into the toilet basin then put it in a old bowl with water next to me on the bath floor. Then insert #2. take #1 to the sink and wash it out and give it a once over with the vingar solution as recomended for those more weary about the simply rinse and reuse for the permenent cups. then dump bowl out and place the cup in it to dry til the next 12 hours had passed. **No the instead cup doesn't say this is practice. They want you to toss them each time. That's almost more messy than the wash and reuse method! and I am not suggesting this method to others just stating what I did this past cycle. ya know to see if I could get past the wash and reuse thing... I DID get past it.**
I figure this is what I will do with the diva/moon cup. Meaning I will need to get two when I do my getting.
Can someone enlighten me to the differences between the Diva Cup and the Moon Cup?
I do understand that these two require you to pull down to create a "Suction" whereas the instead soft cup doesn't.
I know that these two are placed further down the vaginal cavity than the Instead soft cup too.
Oh, and the instead cup and "relations" I guess every woman is different~ We tried this with the instead cup and he said he could feel it Where the rim was behind the pubic bone. I couldn't feel it... he could. There was no leakage during, I had changed just prior to "relations".
My one gripe with my instead soft cup is that I can feel the back part of the rim hit my cervix as I pull it out. I have even gone so far as to do the kegles type thing pulling up to try to avoid it catching and it still does a tiny bit each time.
But seriously... I can "feel" the tampon, all of it... when it is in. I am taking the reading that the diva and moon cup fit lower in the vaginal cavity. I am worried I will "feel" it. I hate tampax and the feeling of them. I am cramping just thinking about it.

I have my diva in now and can't feel it. I must have it in right. Sometimes when I'm doing a lot of walking I can feel it though.

Well, after secretly reading these threads for quite a while, I have finally broken down and bought a diva cup. I took the advice mentioned earlier and bought it from Mom4Life on ebay. Now I can't wait to get it. I'm about 2 weeks away from my next period so I should have the cup before that and will be able to try it right away. I hope this is as awesome as it seems. I decided to finally do it because so many of you have tried it and almost no one has said anything negative. I figure if this diverse group of women are all into it then it will probably be great for me too!
