The Diva cup is great. Don't worry about the cramping - I always get a lot of achiness is my vaginal walls during my period, and after switching to the cup I realized that it was from the expansion of the tampon. (I don't know why it took me so long to figure that out!) Using the cup I have no achiness; it is so much more comfortable!

I haven't read all the posts, but I am so glad to know people are using menstrual cups. I started using INSTEAD www.softcups.com over ten years ago. They are the most incredible invention for my period. Using a tampon is so archaic and gross to me, I could never put one of those nasty things inside of me again. With the cup, I can go 12 hours between changing it. When I use the rest room, I bear down a little and it releases the cup just a little to let the blood drain out. There is no nasty string to hang down, there is no longer that disguisting smell, I don't have to worry about the cotton falling down into the vaginal wall. There are no leaks, it doesn't hurt to remove the cup like it is to remove a dry tampon. I can have sex with my husband without him even having the slightest idea I am having my period, and the cup has no effect on me either. There is no worry about TSS. I have tried to share this wonderful invention with every woman I know. I just can't believe after 10 years there are still so few people who know about it. It's about time every woman gets liberated and free of those menacing cotton tampons. To me, a tampon is as old fashioned as when women had to safety pin cloths into their panties back before they even had disposable pads. SO GROSS.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a two questions:
Are there any women here that have used the disposable cup and a diva/moon cup?
I want to know which one provides the best protection ?
Which one is more comfortable?
Those are the only two variables that I'm concerned with right now... thanks.

I use something called "Instead" and they work great- you can use them up to 12 hours and if you insert them correctly, you don't feel a thing. That's what I use when doing water sports and wearing bikini's( no string and no worrying about having to change anything for most of the day).
I find mine at the grocery store. They're a little bit more expensive than tampons, but so worth it.

I'm curious too. I've been using the Diva Cup with mixed results (I am getting better at it though). After re-visiting this thread I'm going to buy some Instead Cups and give them a try. I'm 3 weeks away from my next period so I can't give a report back for about a month.

So far I've had the diva cup in for three days with NO problems like I had before. I found that I wasn't rotating the cup ENOUGH once it was inserted. I just gave it a little turn and a tug and still had leaks and some "slipping."
I read on the website that you need to give it a full 360 turn, then tug it. Since I did that, I've had NO problems!!!

Is the Instead cup available at walmart? I'm afraid my period will start while in the hospital and I don't want to deal with tampax, and NO WAY do I want to use a pad. I'm sure it's not the time to try the diva.

Yes, I purchase them there. They are usually near the top of the shelf between the pads and tampons.
(I've noticed this set up in three stores locally.... don't know if it will help)

I'm in Canada as well. Did not find them at Walmart. I bought mine at Safeway on the weekend. It's the only place I've ever noticed them (but then I didn't go shopping around either). But they are with the pad and tampons there.

My Wal-Mart sells them (Instead cups), but they are usually out. I have better luck at Target or one of the drug stores like CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens. :)

All right, i spoke too soon. I do not have the diva cup conquered...it still leaks. I think I may have vaginal cysts causing it to not seal properly? I only need a panty liner though, cause the leakage is minimal.

I really don't think that a diva cup will stretch you out that much. WHen you fold the thing over to put it in, it's not that much bigger than a super tampon. really...it looks huge opened up but you have to fold it in half to get it in.
Of course some women are *really* tiny, but I highly doubt that you'll affect your virginity any by using this....two of your fingers or a folded up menstrual cup is nothing compared to...your husband to be.
If it causes you pain or discomfort than I wouldn't do it. But I'd at least give the instead cups a try.

It sounds like you might need to push it back a bit further. Try pushing it back and then lifting the lip, causing the back to tip downward.
If you can feel it after about five minutes when you think about it, it may not be seated exactly where it needs to be.
They are surprisingly comfortable.

you all make me want to give this a try so much.
i started today and i just HATE wearing pads, but i have had zero luck with tampons over the years... and i realize i'm just not doing something right, but that makes me think i wouldn't be able to get these things right, either.
i read this whole thread last night and looked at the instead website and thought "i can do this" but... oh i don't know, i'm a wimp. (not really, just when it comes to these sorts of things)
any ideas?

all you can do is try. And try with the instead cups first...it's a cheaper investment than the diva if you think you won't like it. just do it. :-)

Anybody from Canada know whether it's available here?
. Or is it just a matter of practice? The Instead cups sound easier to handle. Does anybody have relevant experience?
It's a matter of practice and feeling comfortable with yourself. 
I think I'd have just shut down totally at the thought of a CUP going in there! LOL
