ORIGINAL: danielmount My favorite song from the project is "I Have Not Forgotten." After Martin Cook made sure that everyone at NQC last year or listening (as I was) to the live feed knew the song, I got to liking it so much that I purchased the project. My second favorite from the project is "Led by the Master's Hand." I love that song! (A third favorite is "When I Walk on the Streets of Gold.") I like the original When I Walk better. Maybe it's almost 30 years of listening to it. I like the original version of I Know better as well. Still a solid album though. I think it's kind of cool how they have "redone" a classic on most of the albums the past 10 years or so. Now if we could only get them to do a live CD so I can stop making CD's from their videos to get live versions of songs...

My favorites from the new CD are still "I Have Not Forgotten" and "Led by the Master's Hand."

I have "Going Home For Christmas" on LP. The other album is on their discography but I have never seen a listing for it on any secondary market source. Maybe the next time we call Ron Hutchins to order something I will ask him about it. I'm getting close to a complete set of their music and would like to locate a copy of "Country Christmas" if I can find one at a reasonable cost. quote:

ORIGINAL: CountryPreacherI have been searching for an Inspirations album for a few years entitled "Country Christrmas". Their discography only lists a couple of songs on the album. Has anyone actually seen the album? If so, I would like to get some information about it. I.e. publishing firm, album number, and maybe a list of the other songs on it. I have never seen a listing for this on ebay or any other site that I have looked. It seems to be one of their most rare recordings. quote:
undefined I have a cassette of the Inspirations entitled "Going Home For Christmas" 1986/Word/Canaan/ 7-0199573-6 Songs: Christmas is For Everyone, Going Home For Christmas, The Wonder of Wonders, I Wish We Could Keep Christmas, O Holy Night, This is the Christmas Story, Good News, Silent Night, Christmas at Calvary, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. No group picture on the cover, just a white cover with a big red bow on the cover of it.

This should my post number 500. I couldn't think of a better place to use it than on the Inspirations thread. Maybe I'll celebrate by watching one of their videos.

Didn't ever think that I would reach this many posts. Esp. this quick. It has been fun, and I have even learned some things, as well as having enjoyed the fellowship. I did watch the Inspirations "Live in Alaska" video. I always enjoy it. They went to a church in Anchorage. It was the first time a SGM group had been there. Remember, this was about '94. Hard to imagine going that long and not heard the best music in the world. The place went wild at the end of the concert. And this in a Baptist church.(lol)

That's actually how I got introduced to the Inspirations was via the 8-track format, lol! I'm only 33, but I've collected them for quite a while and bought my first 2 Inspirations albums on the format. I only have 4 or 5 of their albums, but then again, I don't have the $$$ to look for much stuff right now. My favorite 3 songs are "The First Look," "When I Wake Up To Sleep No More," and "They're Holding Up The Ladder." As far as "older media" it is amazing. I invested in software a few years back and last year, I had the 8-track player motor rebuilt that was in my parent's old console stereo. Yes, lol, you can still find people to work on 8-track equipment! After the guy got through fixing the motor and cleaning everything, it sounded better than it had in years so I started digitizing a lot of my tapes. Wow! While it's off the subject of the Inspirations, I digitized, equalized, and cleaned up some old Ronnie Milsap tapes. A friend of mine at work likes Ronnie Milsap so I let her listen to them; she swears up and down that if she didn't know the source was an 8-track tape, she'd think it came straight from another CD!

Yes it was. That made it interesting. Eddie Deitz did the emceeing for the concert and did a great job. They imported a piano player. Eddie Deitz said that Martin Cook and his family went to Hawaii and explained that he was afraid that it would be cold (lol). Then he explained that they were on vacation and it had been planned for some time before the trip to Alaska had come up. As it was recorded by the church, the start of the video seems a little rough, but it gets going and is a lot of fun. It also shows that you can have a great concert even with a minimal amount of music to accompany the group. quote:

First, let me say how excited I am to find (by accident, like most things on the internet it seems) this Inspirations thread. I just finished watching a very old Inspiration video that was taped in 1971. That is about the time I first saw the Inspirations live in Moulton, Alabama for the first time. I still remember Archie standing in the men's restroom dressed in his white suit (for those of you "young people" the white suits with yellow shirts were an Inspiration standard in those days) preparing for their part of the program. Archie and his huge bottle of Listerine! Those boys made an impression of me that night that has lasted a life time. I can not count the number of times I saw the Inspirations from around 1970/71 through 1978. My father, had the priveledge of being one of their booking contacts in Alabama for many years. I spent many hours opening doors, carrying equipment, and talking with some of the greatest human beings to have ever lived. To a young kid like me, they were like "rock-stars". Thankfully, they didn't live their lives like "rock-stars"! I was certain I would be replacing Marlin Shubert when he chose to leave the group. I was ready. I knew every song! To my shock, I walked into the auditorium (probably a gymnasium) one night and saw Mike standing on the stage! It broke my heart to hear Martin introduce Mike as the new Inspiration bass singer! Thankfully, he did! What a bass singer Mike has become!!! It has been interesting over the years to hear just how many people have every Inspiration song memorized and ready to step in. Unfortunatley, my contact with the Inspiration has been through their website and my purchase(in recent years) of their CD and video recordings. I was fortunate to see the Inspirations for the first time in YEARS back in the year 1998 when they almost ran me off the road near my subdivision on their way to a church just two miles from my house! I met them on a narrow two lane street. Obviously, that big bus took up most of the room. After I finished my screaming because of almost ending up in the ditch I saw the words Inspirations! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! I turned around and followed them. It was one of the best days of my life...seeing/hearing them again. It had been 23 years since I had seen them in person. Man, they got older! I guess I did, too! It was that night I began to buy all their tapes, CD and video products. It was such a great day when I found their website and called their office to place my order. Much to my surprise Ronnie answered the phone. I was shocked when he remembered me and my father. I have seen them in concert twice since that night(2002 and last June, 2006) both times when I arranged a business trip to an area they were going to be. I have to say I believe the current line-up of Inspirations just may be the best ever vocally speaking. They are so good. In closing, Thank you Inspirations! What you have ment to my life can never be put into words! Thank You!

ORIGINAL: danielmount I hate to say it, but I've noticed Archie's voice is beginning to show signs of age. Their last album clearly showed it, in my opinion...but 42 years in the same part is phenomenal! I've often wondered what would happen to The Inspirations if and when Archie and Martin retire...would they keep going with new personnel?? Would they retire the name?? Personally I don't want to think about it! [/font] I saw the Inspirations last night and they had Mark Clark from GA singing in place of Archie. I think he was the same guy that sang a little for him @ NQC, but he sounds very much like Archie and did very well on Archies songs. If Archie HAS to retire Mark would do very well. Martin said Archie is out for several weeks trying to get his voice healed. Martin joked that Archies wife first told him to be quiet, but it was finally Doctors orders that got it to happen!

Has there been any word lately about Archie Watkins? Does anybody know if he is back to singing? I would hate to see him have to leave due to voice problems.

I read a concert review somewhere where another fill-in was with them (not Clark) was with them about three or four weeks ago.

singing? I would hate to see him have to leave due to voice problems. Archie still has help from time to time, but they did find out that the problems he was experiencing came from Acid Reflux. He has gotten treatment and they are working on getting him back where he needs to be, but the doctor said that because the problem was so bad it would take a bit of time and patience. Praise God it was nothing more serious!

Does anyone know if Archie Watkins is back to singing full time, or is the problem he has been having still continuing. I know that they had brought on someone to sing part time for him and that he wouldn't be able to sing but some at the Singing In The Smokies. It would certainly be a great loss if he were to be unable to make a complete return.
