I saw Brian Free and Assurance Saturday night at First Baptist in Snellville, Ga. I always arrive early because I like to sit down front at a concert. I arrives at 5:30 pm b/c SINGING NEWS said the concert satrted at 6:30 pm. It didn't start til 7 pm.Soooooo,,,,,
I enjoyed the man who opened for them *(John Jones, a local artist) but I would have loved to just hear more of BF & A. They took an intermission and Mr. Jones was coing back to sing 3 more songs and THEN turn it over to BF&A, it was already 9:30, and I had an hour to drive home. SAD. I left w/o seeing the second half. I guess I just enjoy hearing the 'main artist'. After all, that's why I came in the first place!!

I've heard John Jones several times as the opener for Ivan Parker and for Gold City when they were at First Baptist Snellville. He has a really nice voice and a great testimony. I'm sorry I missed the Saturday concert.

We went to see Triumphant last night in Hueytown, Alabama (near Birmingham!). They were great - as always! - and I really enjoyed hearing them and talking to them. Eric is from nearby so it was sort of a hometown crowd for him. His mom and sisters were there. A local group, Sonrise, also sang and they were pretty good. I had heard them once before and was glad to get to hear them again. And during intermisssion, Garry Jones showed up (Mercy's Mark has some concerts near Birmingham this weekend), so you know I was thrilled!!! He and Jeff Stice did an impromptu piano duet of "I'll Fly Away" - complete with changing positions in the middle of the song. It was a lot of fun.

Now that's dedication!!! Are you planning a whole vacation around the appearances?? I sure can't blame you for wanting to go to Florida this time of year --- it'll just be hard to go back to Nebraska when it's over!!!

I'd been wondering if they were doing a taping. I can't wait to hear it!

In fact, I'll have to get from you (whether here or via email) a report on how it goes and what the highlights are!

Hi all,
I was recently at Bill Bailey's winter gospel music convention and I really had a blast!! There were so many groups throughout the week, although I didn't actually get to go until Thursday, there were still so many that I had a chance to see. The last night, in my opinion, was the best night! There were the Kingsmen, Gold City, and the Inspirations; three of my favorite groups.
It was sooo much fun but there was a moment of sadness, and shock, when Tony Peace announced that he was leaving the Kingsmen.
I just loved being surrounded by so much great gospel music, it was like a 'mini NQC'. This was my second year attending the convention, and I am definitely going back next year!
Take care everyone!

I attended an incredible Mercy's Mark concert last night!!!! I don't have enough time to write all about it, but I'll just say that it was the best one ever! I know I'm not objective - but I don't have to be! See my new avatar?!?!?!?!?

Last Saturday night, Bill Gaither brought his group in for a big concert at the Coliseum. It was a great night. Those on hand were the Gaither Vocal Band, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, Ben Speer, Joy Gardner, Lynda Randle, & Jeff & Sheri Easter. It was a great night of fun, music, & inspiration. I had my socks blessed clean off! LOL

Some friends and I attended an Anchormen concert this week-end and totally enjoyed ourselves. We certainly received a blessing. We will be going to see Gold City soon. That should be a good concert too!!

Homecoming concerts are my favorites. I always feel the spirit of God is in the house (plus I was saved at one.)

Next time I'm going to wear socks.

We saw the Dixie Melody Boys on Fri, 2/9, and the Perrys on Fri, 2/2. I posted reviews about each of them. None for this week, but we may go to 4 next week!!!! It is feast or famine on SG music in our part of the country.

Be careful what you ask for!!

I've had a really busy day, so I haven't had time to do much on the forums today, but I wanted to write some more about last night's Mercy's Mark concert. I wish you ALL could’ve been there because you would have heard them at their very best. We got there early and got to hear some of their sound check, so we knew we were in for a treat. They hooked into the church's sound system and I've got to say that it was the best sound I've heard yet in a church building. Christian Davis (bass) got a real workout - they did several songs where he's featured on a verse or two but they also did "When He Reached Down His Hand for Me" and Christian absolutely nailed it! (Daniel -- you would've LOVED it!!) Brent Mitchell (tenor) was really strong last night, especially on "Somebody Touched Me", and Josh Feemster (lead) - well, Josh was just outstanding on everything!

Garry had picked a lot of songs that really showcased each of the singers and he also lead the congregation in singing "He Touched Me". I love it when he does that because there are usually lots of good singers at southern gospel concerts. It's so much fun hearing the parts because he usually leads them a capella. It was gorgeous - especially when he asked just the ladies to sing a repeat of the chorus.

It seemed to me that Gary played a little more than usual, and he played on a petite grand - not their electronic keyboard! He also played his arrangement of "Unclouded Day", which is so special.

There were two real high points for me during the concert. The first one was when, as part of the concert, they recorded a "live" version of "Something's Happening" that they are planning to release to radio soon. I don't think there were too many people who had heard MMQ before, but they loved the song and they really showed it! The second was when they sang "Midnight Cry" near the end of the evening.

At the end of the concert, MMQ usually does "Too Near Home", which has a little tag/turnaround at the end. At the end of the song, they invited the local minister of music (I think his name is Mike Faust) to come up and sing with them and they sang it two more times. The crowd went nuts!! It was great!

Thanks! That was certainly not too long!

Do you mean that the version they taped that night will be the version they send to radio? Also, wasn't "Something's Happening" their last radio single?

After all, it was in my opinion far and away the best song on the album, and one of the best songs I've heard in a while, but if they release it again, does that mean they think it was the only radio-friendly song on the project?

I'm not criticizing, just pondering why they would do it twice. It is an excellent song, but still that is somewhat out of the ordinary.

I took my kids and my Mom to see Legacy Five in concert on February 8 in Cold Spring, Kentucky. They were fantastic as usual! I just posted the pictures I took of the concert in the Yahoo group I recently started if anyone wants to see them:

I'm glad you didn't think it was too long! I started to list the songs I remembered them doing, but I figured enough was enough - the neighbors will complain!!!

Something's Happening is their current single, but Daywind wants to re-release it as "live". I love it on the CD but there was really something electric about it last night with the audience. Can't wait to hear it! I'd love to see several more radio singles from that CD, too.

Actually, I'd love to see song lists. That is typically my favorite part of concert reports. When there is a (reasonably) complete songlist, I can recall enough different songs for enough groups that I can generally get a good feel for how the evening went, almost as though I was there.

I may be leaving 1 or 2 out, but these are the songs I can remember:

When It All Starts Happening, I Want to Be There
He’s the God of Second Chances
I’m on The Battlefield
I’m Gonna Walk Every Day With My Lord
Life Will Be Sweeter Someday
Somebody Touched Me
He Touched Me
All I Need to Know
Gonna Be Movin’
Moving Up to Gloryland
Something’s Happening
Midnight Cry
It Is Well With My Soul
I’m Too Near Home

Thanks!

That isn't a particularly long concert.

Who do they feature on "It is Well with My Soul"?

Mercy's Mark concerts are usually about 1 hr and 40 or 45 minutes because they don't usually have an intermission. This one was a little longer than usual. Josh is featured on It Is Well --- it's his favorite hymn and was on the first Southern Selections CD.

I had a great time Saturday 2/17/07 in Asheboro, NC. A great concert with Ricky Atkinson & Compassion, Whisnants and Michael Combs. Since it was a Ray Flynn event he also had preaching and it was great to see souls saved!! I am on cloud nine this morning, no better way to start a work week.

I saw Gold City in Florence, SC on the 17. They did a great job and I was really thankful and blessed at how all of the guys showed a heart toward ministry and the night was a total entertianing blessing. They sang a few new and a few old so everyone got to hear something that I am sure was a true blessing.
