That is sad about what happened. God promises to take everything meant for harm and turn it to good, so I will pray in that vein for you regarding this.
I'm sharing Thanksgiving with a friend of mine . . . and since you asked (well, kinda), I'd like to share a Praise Report regarding this very thing, if I may. 
Last year, I went to Christmas Night dinner with this very friend to her brother and sister-in-law's house. On the way back, we were talking about various holidays and she told me that Thanksgiving was the hardest for her becuse she usually spent it alone.
So when I got home, I marked my calendar for October, 2006 - to remind me to make arrangements with her for Thanksgiving this year. Last month, my reminder came up, and I went and bought a turkey, came home and put in the freezer. I then emailed my friend to invite her over for Thanksgiving, but she declined the invitation because she said her brother and sister-in-law were going to be in town and she was going to spend the holiday with them. It's very unusual that they're in town during Thanksgiving week.
In the meantime (it took a couple of weeks for her to get back to me with an answer) . . . another friend invited me over to her annual "Orphan Thanksgiving" . . . she always has Thanksgiving for anyone who doesn't have anyplace to go on the holiday. I explained my situation and told her I wouldn't be able to give her an answer until I got my answer from my other friend.
About two weeks ago is when I got my answer from my other friend, declining my invitation.
BUT!!!! I didn't feel HIS Peace about accepting my friend's invitation to her house. But that was about all I knew; that - and the fact that I felt very strongly I was still to continue on with my plan of doing Thanksgiving at my house.
This past Monday, my friend (whom I had invited over to my place) called and asked me if my invitation was still opened . . . turns out that her brother and sister-in-law is going out of town as they normally do and they won't be here on Thanksgiving.
SO!!!  My original plans are my current plans. My friend is coming over for Thanksgiving . . . and she is going to bring her Scrabble board. It will give us a great opportunity to get "caught up" with each other and what's going on in our respective lives.
Isn't God just wonderful?!! 
PLUS!!! My friend that has the annual "Orphan Thanksgiving" . . . she is entering into a new phase with a male friend; they're not quite "a couple" yet, but they are exploring that possibility. In the meantime, everyone that she has invited over this year has declined her invitation; she says that's never happened before. She told me this last night. I asked her what she was going to do and she said she thought she would still cook Thanksgiving Dinner and go take it to her male friend and his two sons. It occurred to me that this also may be part of Abba's plan so that she and her male friend can have some together time by theirselves and also the opportunity to explore their relationship on a deeper level.
And the reason that everyone has declined my friend's invitation is that they have been invited to varous family Thanksgiving celebrations.
God is absolutely so Very Good!
In one fell swoop, He has taken care of at least 15 different people who "seemingly" would not have had anyone to spend the holiday with them . . . but HE already had orchestrated everything to HIS Will and HIS Plans & Purposes.

(((Rachel))) Sorry too about the jail "incident" but will be interested on how it all plays out.
There's always paper folding that can be done for neat things. No markers or tools other than hands needed.

What a wonderfully exciting thing to happen ALL THE WAY AROUND, Shar-Mar!!!! God is cool.... and your story is a wonderful reminder to me to wait for that 'peace' concerning decisions.... I love how you listen to the Lord!!
Gary.... it's cool that you have family to share the holiday with. As Shar-Mar was saying.... there are some who don't....
I, too, have invited someone over who does not have family to celebrate the holidays. We will have dinner at my mom and dad's house.... it will be fun. We haven't had 'company' in a few years....
DS!!! Duuuuuuude!!!! What a load off... eh? Way cool!!
I finally replaced all my coffee smelling paperwork with new stuff.... sounds silly... but keeping the records straight is quite a job!!

..... we don't know yet for us. There may be none for us, except that we may never be able to bring in 'other stuff' again.
For the ladies.... they lost commisary (sp?) for a week. Which means they are unable to buy extras such as envelopes, stamps, snack food, or other items which are available to them at a price.
We shall just wait and see how it all works out.... I just KNOW that God is doing something here....
I think I need a thanksgiving avatar.... hhhhhmmm.... but the eyeball is really cool....

......... ya know. There is a bigger picture here... and I believe that God is just using that small item as an instrument for his plans.
I met last night with the lady incharge of the women's division... and we had a good talk. Much of it was about procedure, safety and when to stop talking about Jesus when safety becomes an issue.
I have much to do today... my general manager has a concussion. I need to figure out what part of her job needs to be done today....
Tonight I will be going in again.... not sure if I have a partner for tonight. I think it will be my first night alone....
