I gotta see the replays! Randy the Natural Couture is phenomenal!

Joe Stephenson won, as did Renato Sobral (not alot of class on his part--he refused to let go of the choke hold after the referee stopped the fight)....

Giulia -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (8/26/2007 5:54:59 PM)

Okay, anyone got any advice, we are on the ground grappling, I am in his guard (not playing dirty, it's in house and the groin is out of bounds) anyway all I can do is lift him with my body and slam him down a few times, only don't want to break his neck (he's bigger than me and falls harder) anyone got any creative ideas about what to do?

lilyofthefield -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (8/26/2007 7:54:35 PM)

Guilia,

2 techniques I've used:

1 - Put your head on his chest and wedge one knee up on his rear end. Use the heels of both hands to strike hard into the floating ribs (upwards).

2 - Brace yourself with one foot one the ground. With the opposite elbow dig hard into his medial thigh. Back out into an ankle lock.

As far as last night's fights - they were awesome!! So happy for Randy and GSP!!!

C'mon Hiker, Herb is a pretty fair ref.

The fight shouldn't been stopped any earleir,and when Gonzaga said he couldn't see,Herb explained the rule to him.
The only time I disagreed with one of his stoppages was Shamrock/Ortiz 2.

Sound good, doesn't sound like it is damaging (in the long term, anyway).

I do the elbow thing into the thigh, that's a good one when you're in someone's guard, but when there is no room for that the head on the chest and knee on the gluts whilst striking ribs, sounds good, have to try that one out, thanks[:D] see how Michael likes that one[;)]

I do the locks a fair bit, like the guillotine when I am in a bind and it seems like no way out, front on head in guillotine choke does wonders.[:D] Especially when good old Mike tries showing off on me and tries his hardest on me[;)]

Dan Henderson vs Rampage Jackson. Wow!
I'm picking Henderson. I''m pulling for Henderson but I like Jackson too.

Should be a great fight.

Fwanger -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (8/29/2007 2:27:27 PM)

I just saw on 24wrestling.com that Brock Lesner has been signed to UFC and will be starting in 2008.

Definitely looking forward to this fight. I am picking Henderson as well.

I am also interested in seeing how Cro Cop looks after his loss to Gonzaga. Hopefully he will bounce back.

I didn't think this would happen so soon but it looks like Franklin is going to get his rematch with Silva on Oct. 20. I can't wait for that one.

I didn't get to see his first MMA fight, but from what I've heard he looked pretty good.

I'm not sure how well he's going to do in the UFC, but you have to respect him for giving it a try.

cog41 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (8/30/2007 8:43:01 AM)

What has happened to Arlovsky? Where is he?
And what about Brandon Vera? haven't heard from him in awhile.

I hope Rich takes Silva but it won't be easy.

Giulia -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/3/2007 10:04:23 AM)

Is there an age limit to cage fighting, like boxing and kickboxing?

I am not sure where Arlovsky has gone. I was beginning to wonder that too.

Vera has been having issues with management. Here is an article about it. Click here.

Not that I know of, but I may be wrong. One thing I do know is Randy Couture is 44 years old and there has been no mention about him getting close to an age limit.

One reason is the UFC fighters don't receive the contiuous sustain head blows that a boxer receives. UFC ,even though there is less padding and they receive blows from knees,elbows etc.etc.. is said to be safer for the fighters long term.

cog41 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/8/2007 8:33:10 PM)

Big night tonight. 8 pm and it isn't pay per view!

Spike 8 pm central time.

I still pick Henderson. Wont be surprised if Rampage wins,but I'll stay with Henderson.

Hiker02 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/9/2007 3:34:21 PM)

Well for me there were two big surprises last night. First Cro Cop was absolutely out muscled, out fought, and out wrestled. I can understand him being out muscled(the guy was huge) and being out fought, but I can't understand how he was out wrestled. Konga has to be one of the worst wrestlers I've seen in MMA he totally looks like a fish out of water when he is on the ground. Cro Cop better make some changes or he is not going to be a contender much longer.

The second surprise was the Hamill/Bisping fight. I'm sorry but Hamill totally won that fight. He absolutely dominated Bisping the first round and soundly won the second. The second was virtually even while they were standing however Bisping was taken down three times which should have given the round to Hamill. The only round I would have given to Bisping was the 3rd and that was mainly because Hamill was getting tired. I think this was an example of "homefield advantage".[8|]

cog41 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/10/2007 9:31:14 AM)

Gott go with ya Hiker. Cro Cop needs to retool or retire. He was totally outfought by Kongo.
I too thought Hamil won. I do believe appeared tire into the 2nd round and looked very tired by the third. This may have had an effect on the judges. But still I thought he blocked most of Bisping's punches and should have won.

I picked Henderson but wasn't surpised Quentin won. It wasn't as action packed as i expected bu the two were pretty evenly matched. I think they showed lots of respect for each other and thus led to a little slower fight.

Looks like MMA Weekly agrees with us.

"In what ended up being the focal point for the majority of the fans watching UFC 75, Michael “The Count” Bisping won a very controversial split decision over Cincinnati, Ohio native Matt “The Hammer” Hamill, in what will almost surely go down as one of the worst decisions in UFC history."

"UFC 75 started out with a ton of fire as Houston Alexander and Marcus Davis seemed to steal the show, while what should have been a historic night based around the title unification bout between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Dan Henderson, the focus instead turned into the terrible decision rendered in the Michael Bisping/Matt Hamill fight."

Another thing that bothered me about the Bipsing/Hamill fight was the post fight interview by Bipsing. I think MMA weekly put it best by saying...

"Michael Bisping pulled off a split decision win and in his post fight interview refused to give any credit to his opponent’s performance acting like he just won by knockout instead of being handed a gift decision."

I also picked Henderson and was pulling for him to win, but Rampage fought a great fight and deserved the victory.

chemdude77 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/10/2007 8:37:42 PM)

Hamill was robbed! He outboxed Bisping and outwrestled him. I wonder if the judges were playing to Bisping's home crowd.

Dan Henderson took some mean shots, I am surprised Rampage didn't knock him out!

UFC 76 should be interesting:

Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Forrest Griffin
Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch
Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Lyoto Machida
Tyson Griffin vs. Thiago Tavares
Justin McCully vs. Christian Wellisch
Diego Saraiva vs. Jeremy Stephens
Matt Wiman vs. Michihiro Omigawa

(*According to MMA Weekly...)

Anyone looking forward to Hughes vs Serra?

Okay, I'm picking Chuck for a comeback.
Rua over Griffin.
Sanchez for solid victory over Fitch.

Are yall tired of seeing Chris Leben continue to get exposure in UFC matches?
There has got to be other fighters deserving of the chances in the UFC.

cog41 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/20/2007 4:34:52 PM)

And in Boxing. The Oct 6th bout between Pacquiao vs Barrera should be Great!
I'll pull for Manny Pacquiao.

Liddell over Jardine
Rua over Griffin (I am really looking forward to this fight![:D])
Fitch over Sancez (Mainly because I can't stand Sanchez [:'(])

I do think the UFC focuses to much on Leben. In my opinon the reason they do this is because he cried after his loss to Josh Koscheck in Ultimate Fighter 1. I think it showed Dana White that although Leban might not have the talent to be champion but he sure does have the heart.

cog41 -> RE: Any UFC Fans??? (9/23/2007 10:39:52 AM)

Well was I wrong.
Didn't watch the fights, I was watching Bama, but I must say I was surprised at the results.
Griffin submits Rua? Wow.
Although I picked Sanchez over Fitch, I'm glad Fitch won.

Chuck may consider retirement. The lightheavyweight division is stacked pretty deep.
