ok day 3, and I'm going nuts.

Your right about food at this point, I just need to get away from this monster!

Is it me or why does day 3 seem so hard, I sailed past day 2.

Today the pens on my desk look like Newport 100's.

Day three is when the last of the nicotine leaves your system and is, perhaps, the hardest. Hang on and ride out the craves one at a time. They may seem like last for ages but, if you time them, you'll find they only last a couple of minutes - maybe less if you have a rubber band around your wrist and snap it if they are hard ones.

After the nicotine has left your system, it's all mental after that - reprogramming your brain to deal with life normally.

Has anyone ever tried the nose spray, my sister has it and thinks it helps. She quit after smoking 5 packs a day.


Also if people need help with patches etc. The tobacco companies have set aside money for people to get help free.

I just called my clinic because my insurance had a problem paying and the front desk girl told me that you can call the QUIT PLAN people, they help you to access those funds. no matter your income, etc.

I meet with a rep on July 2!

Yesterday was one of those super stressful days for me that would have found me feeding the nicotine-furnace not that long ago. But I didn't have even a teeny twinge of a nicotine craving all day. Not only was I able to survive without nicotine, it could not have contributed anything positive to the experience.

I got to this place one crave, one hour, one day at a time and from support of Fellow freedom Fighters like this forum.

My sole point is that anyone following the examples of ordinary men & women now free from nicotine can break the bonds of nicotine-slavery and regain control of their life. Just imagine being able to plan your day, week, or month without giving any consideration to tobacco and opportunities to feed the Nicotine Slave Master!

Day 671 nicotine-FREE, Day 768 tobacco-FREE

WOW! Those days mount up after a while. I remember that my first mention of my quit on this forum was in another thread on my Day 15 nicotine-FREE...

Back from holiday, still quit. 45 days, pressing on for two months. 900 cigarettes not smoked, 540 USD saved.

Way to go everyone that is working towards being smoke free!

Hubby is now 7 days smoke free!!! Granted being in the hospital 3 of those has helped greatly. He was on meds to help him quit in the hospital. The other 4 have been sheer willpower!

Someone mentioned the QUIT PLAN? Tell me more!!! We are currently without insurance (for another week or two anyway) and we could certainly use the help to get him back on that medication! He is going back to work on Monday and that is going to be the true test!

Pray for him please!

49 days. Getting some strange craves of the type "I miss smoking, just having a cigarette without a second thought". These craves are longer then the physical ones, more intrusive and persistent. Maybe I am not having a clear enough experience of the benefits of quitting.

Pray that I think correctly about this?

Those mental craves can be as dangerous as the physical ones because they are the siren call of our addiction. Spend some time on http://www.WhyQuit.com to remind yourself of the dangers of returning to the deadly habit.

Also, you may be entering "The Funk," which happens anywhere between day 50 & 80. It's a period that may be marked by malaise and a sense of having lost "a friend." Again, it's a lie of our old enemy. What kind of friend would cause us the kind of agony we went through the first week of quiting and one that, while slowly killing us, nags us with promises it cannot keep.

How's everyone doing on their journey?

I still have many moments of awe when I think of how blessed I am not to need a regular fix of nicotine to "get me through" traffic, enjoy a walk, deal with a problem at home or work, or go on a trip. Getting here wasn't always easy, but my new-found freedom is worth it!

Seven weeks, six days, still quit. Big cave scenario up ahead, I'm a musician and I'm playing concerts this week-end that I've practised two months for. The concerts are far away from home and far away from people I'm accountable to. Part of the musician culture is the celebration after the big concert, and prayers are welcome for this to be a good nicotine-free celebration.

Reading the post before posting, this looks self-centered and petty. I don't care. Self-absorbed and petty is right now better then caving. Thanks for reading, thanks for posting replies, thanks for praying. Something must have worked the last seven weeks...

I don't think it looks self-centered or petty at all! I think it looks like celebration and asking for prayer.

it's not petty and self centered....well, it is self centered, but there are times to be self centered. For instance...would you deny a woman in labor the ability to be self centered a bit? Of course not....it's a timing thing!!! Here is the perfect place for you to ask for prayer and receive prayer and support to get through this weekend!!!! The Bible says that if you have a need to take it before the elders of the church and get prayer for that need. Now we might not be a church building here, but we are a body of believers that join together and can uplift each other in prayer and words of encouragement. If you need prayer then ask for it!!! Don't think it is selfish or a bad thing!!! Sometimes it is a good thing to be "selfish", esp when we need prayer!!!!

I will definitely be praying you get through this weekend...AND that your not smoking is a witness to others of what God CAN accomplish in your life!!!!!

When I saw my dr. on Friday, he put me on the waiting list for free smoking cessation classes. He said that once I'm in the classes I'll get the patch for free. His view is that the patch is bad for you, but not as bad as a cigarette. He did like the fact that I was already working on eliminating triggers.

It's been a few days since I posted. About the only time I think about tobacco is gratitude that it no longer plays any part in my life. Any discomfort getting free from nicotine was definitely worth it!
