12 hours and 47 minutes nicotine-free. I want a cigarette BAD right now, but I will not cave in! I made sure to bring my Bible with me to work and I'll spend my lunch break studying instead of driving around smoking. --Kat

Once I took my eyes off tobaccoo as any kind of pleasure, only the source of all my withdrawal agony, I was able to focus on things that would help me achieve FREEDOM from its bondage: sugarless gum, toothpicks, beef jerky, snapping a rubber band worn around my wrist, or whatever I could find to distract me until a crave passed. I guarantee you that each crave WILL pass (sooner than it feels like) and they will be fewer, weaker, and further apart until they are just memories! And CONGRATULATIONS on your journey so far!!

In a way, I guess I was fortunate that I only bought tobacco at one location, a convenience store where I also used to buy gas. I haven't stopped there for anything since I quit.

I'm planning on pulling out my cross-stitching to keep my hands busy in the evenings. --Kat

[Scratches head] That last post wasn't addressed to me, so maybe I shouldn't be expected to understand its point.

I am so so so so blessed! I work full-time at my church and also serve quite a bit here. Once a week we have a staff prayer and praise time. During the prayer portion of our meeting, I felt the Spirit prompting me to share my struggle with smoking. I was scared to death! I had no idea what reactions would be. Since I shared I've had several people (including the pastors) come and thank me for being so open with my struggle and to let me know that they are praying for me. I must say it again: I am so so so so blessed! --Kat

That's SUPER, Kat. The only thing better than a good support group is a good support group of praying believers that know you and love you!

You almost make it sound that it's happenstance that anyone ever quits smoking for good and that we should not strive to overcome things that trouble us. Jesus spoke about asking, seeking, and knocking for specific things, not just sitting back and waiting to see what might happen.

faroukfarouk, I understand that you may not see smoking as taboo, but I don't think this thread is the place to discuss that issue. The people here are posting because we see the hold that tobacco has on us and want to do away with it. For me, smoking (and overeating) is something that I turn to instead of turning to Christ for solace. That makes it an idol in my life and a sin. --Kat

faroukfarouk You may have misunderstood the point of this thread. This is a quitting smoking support thread. In reading your posts, other than the one that just posted above mine, I can't see that you are being supportive, rather you seem to be argumentative. Please, if you cannot support then move onto another thread. Sincerely Kath Volunteer Assistant Administrator Please do not reply to this message within the Community. How's everyone doing? I'm looking forward to another tobacco-free and nicotine-free weekend. The early days of my journey to freedom were as difficult as the last quarter mile of my daily 5.5 mile speed-walks, but they do get better and better until being Free is as normal as the sun coming up. Day 716 nicotine-FREE, 813 tobacco-FREE

Still quit, on the 19th it'll be three months. I will then have saved 90x15USD=1350 USD, NOT smoked 1800 cigarettes. I have played 16 concerts without getting my fix (on a scale where 1 is the sun getting up this morning too, and 10 is the parting of the Red Sea, I'd give not getting my post-concert-fix about 7), and I have walked through 15 tax-free shops with discounted tobacco (BIG trigger in the past). i now buy dried mushrooms and cheese. Makes for great risottos! And I've started taking long walks, we live in a mountainous area. Seven hours today (3 hours of back-tracking not finding the trail...)
