A woman in my cessation class has the same problem with living with smokers and here is what she did: In a moment of resolve and strength, she made everyone promise to absolutely not give her any cigarettes no matter how she begged or how mad she got. If she wants to smoke, she will have to go to the store and buy her own, and that is what they are to tell her when she tries to 'snag' one. It seems to work for them....it gives the others a defense and it makes her accountable for actively choosing to break her fast.

I don't know if it will help but good luck.

I I can't wear make-up to cover this up...it just gets worse. Anyone else going through this? Is this just the toxins pushing out of my system? What has anyone done to prevent or treat this (if you have dealt with this when quiting)?

I have tried acne meds and I keep up with my daily dental routine. My dentist gave me advice to not use mouth wash for a while until my cravings lesson because the ulcers could get worse. I am doing that this time...it still came.

My doctor said most of this could be stress related and, last time, gave me Doxycycl HYC of 100MG to take twice a day to take until this acne gets under control. It worked to clear it up last time I quit and I have been using it ever since....now the acne is back.

What is going on? Any tips?

They are called quitzits. All the thousands of chemicals you were ingesting every time you smoked are making their way out of your system. I had them when I quit, but after a few weeks, my skin cleared up and has never looked better. Drink lots of water to flush your system and hydrate your skin.

Good luck!

By God's grace and strength:
I am at DAY 145 Nicotine Free. (Day 242 tobacco free.)

It's nice to be able to drive by my old drug dealer (convenience store) or go through the tobacco checkout line at Wal*Mart and not even have the slightest twinge of desire. I accept that I'll always be a recovering nicotine addict, but its allure and pull are no longer compelling.

Remaining Clean...One day at a time.

Do you know how many people have been chewed out because they went through the tobacco line and didn't buy tobacco and held up the line for those who were buying tobacco products?

Unfortunately, I've ran out of 3 Musketeers bars (they were the "fun" size) and the potato chips are getting boring- not to mention that they aren't good for my blood pressure.

I think I'm going to go make some banana bread.

It will give me something to do with my hands and occupy my mind.
It will make my family happy.
It will keep me from feeling bad by wasting food (the bananas are very brown).
It will give me a good reason to open the bag of chocolate chips in the freezer.

For at least the first 5 days, your number one priority should be your quit. Some pointers though: if you drink caffeinated drinks/coffee, cut them by 50% because nicotine reduces its effectivesness 50%. Drink lots of fruit juice the first week but lots of water is always in order.

And, unless you are working out like crazy, you will pick up some extra weight. Again, that is the result of nicotine leaving your system. It artificially kept your weight down.

See www.WhyQuit.com for more helpful info.

Ditch the word "try" and such noncommittal thoughts. Commit to staying clean of tobacco one hour at a time if you need to and keep a running total.

And as scripture says, make no provision for the flesh: don't keep "a safety net" in case God "can't give" you strength for one more hour - throw all tobacco away.

God's word says that He will make the way of escape, but it also says to get rid of anything that would lead us to fail. Few of us would feel much compassion for an alcoholic who says he will "try" to stay sober tomorrow but will keep a pint of whiskey in his coat pocket just in case.

Be honest, our addiction is no "better" than that of the alcoholic or illegal drug junkie.

OK, here we go again. I smoked my last cigarette at 430 am. I now have 3 marks down on my paper for each hour!

Some of the things that might help you deal with a crave successfully while satisfying the oral fixation: Toothpicks, coffee stirrers, gargle with Listerine, beef jerky, dry roasted peanuts, sunflower seeds, Cinnamon Altoids, regular Altoids, Altoids sugar free chewing gum, Orbit sugar free gum, and Trident sugarless gum (with Xylitol which is actually GOOD for teeth), and/or small amounts of sugar free hard candy. I have also used small pieces of cotton balls and, early in my quit, chewed some black peppercorns.

But be prepared in advance - Don't wait until a crave sneaks up on you to get something to distract you... one crave, one hour, one day at a time.

3 days tobacco free, guilt free and feeling more thankful every second that God loves me so much to answer my prayer for strength in my weakness.
I am being tested to the max....work & situations are off the hook....but I am following peace and not running to a subsitute but to God and telling Him my frustrations...well...I take that back...I am eating chocolate for now....I will work on that part soon as well...just am letting these next few days be stress free from dieting and concerning myself to what I put in my mouth other than to not smoke!!!
