I wish I had cats...

Our youth minister's cat just had six kittens - you want one of them? [8D]
I'd LOVE to get one. But I rent, and the landlord says no.

If you have seen the play Cats, you can get a whole host of names, Like Rumple-teaser.

excuse me, have to get a refill on coffee...

Mine was named after the kitten on Aristocats.

I have a brand new kitten. His name is Toulouse. Can you guess what he looks like?

actually, he's not mine yet as mama hasn't weaned him because he and his brothers are only 5 weeks old.

Awww... next to baby sheep, baby kittens have got to be one of God's cutest creations! My best friend has a bunch right now that are about 6 weeks old - I'm avoiding her house like crazy, cause I know I'll want them all. [:D] My favorite kitten stage is when they discover the world - and other kittens - around them and start play fighting, crouching, twitching their little tails and then launching upon the unsuspecting target. (Which at our house was our lab puppy, Bell, back when My Girl, my daughter's cat, was still a baby...)

You need to plan a visit down this way - the boys and Pais could play together, while we adults visit and pet the kitties. Since there's only three here at my house, someone would get stuck petting a dog instead, but it's all good. [;)]

DenimDiva -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/25/2008 12:02:21 PM)

Yesterday they were all in the house running and playing. They were adorable. We aren't keeping the other two, so they are remaining unnamed. However, my seven year old neice will soon be eight- in fact her birthday is in less than two weeks. She keeps telling her mom that she wants another cat. Sis keeps telling her no. She's been told no about 30 times a week for the last five weeks. Finally last night when Sis said no again, my neice looked at her and said: "I'm giving you until my birthday to make up your mind." [:D]

Awww... you gotta love the logic of kiddos! [:D] Sounds like your niece is pretty determined to force her will on others. *giggling* My daughter would be cheering her on, trust me.

Tomorrow, they are having a fundraiser here (Woofstock '08) to help our local humane society build new, improved and enlarged facilities. Paislee (who is 5) is wanting to go. They are having a dog walk ($20 entry fee), different contests, face-painting, food, music and a portable dog grooming shop - and of course, the mobile pet adoption unit... I'm wavering between letting Pais take her corgi versus hearing the whining to bring a new dog or cat home... [:D] Help!! *giggling*

car2ner -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/26/2008 10:14:51 PM)

Woofstock sounds like fun. For those who can't have a pet, it might be a good place to get a *fix* of fur. I wanna see pictures... (bossy ain't I)

txhoneydarlin -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/26/2008 11:47:34 PM)

I didn't get any pictures today. [:o] The only one I did get, I paid $5 for. (It was a pic of Pais and Queenie, our corgi. I'll try to scan it and then post it for you to see - the backdrop was way cute!) There were lots of dogs around with their owners (there were especially a lot of pits and boxers with some skeery looking teens holding their leashes), but the contests didn't last long since there weren't a lot of contestants in any of them. I did get to hear the dog karaoke - it was hilarious! Oh, and I steered clear of the adoption booth - they had kittens and pups from what I could see, but everything was really spread out, which was detrimental to me (and others) when I had a dog on a leash and a 5-year-old in tow. [8D] Plus, our dog had a really bad reaction to a poor dachsie who fell in love with her at the photo booth while we were waiting for our picture to print - it made me really wary of taking her around any other dogs that might have had similar ideas. [:D] I did reward her for her actions later and bought her some homemade bacon doggie treats that the Girl Scouts were selling. [:D] I'm hoping the event will be better planned next year - they kind of threw it together this year and didn't have a lot of publicity about everything, ya know?

And FYI, I don't think you are bossy at all. [;)]

car2ner -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/27/2008 8:16:40 AM)

thank you. I can be if I wanna be... just ask my students. Too bad the event didn't go well as it could have. It is always tough when you bring animals who don't think like humans. I love the line about the dogs being led around by scary looking teenagers.

One of my pooches won The Best Trick award when my daughter brought her to a neighborhood pet show. It was for mutts and kids and my dog won by counting. That was years ago.

My sis shoots for dog agility trials and then posts on Photo Reflect. Perhaps the organizers could do something like that next year.

But who knows, they are probably grocery buying heathens who pass gas stations wearing blue shirts. Or do they wear blue shirts as they pass the gas station? Or pass gas at the station? I forget.

armydude -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/27/2008 8:43:42 AM)

Students? What do you teach?

(Praying it has nothing to do with blue shirts and grocery stores)

phosadaud -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/27/2008 3:31:20 PM)

Teaching sin? [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif][sm=icon_smile_faint.gif]

I just wanted to share that I did NOT go grocery shopping this past week... Because I was well stocked up from my previous sinful trips...

This year I am teaching Drama, K- 5th. One of my favorite phrases is "you don't scare me. I teach drama". (generally used when kids fake a pout to try to make me feel bad for saying 'no'.)

Left over chicken for dinner tonight, wheeeee, no grocery shopping this Sunday!

txhoneydarlin -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/27/2008 5:56:17 PM)

I went to WalMart shopping the other night (being the heathern that I am hehehe) - I didn't have on a blue shirt, but I did have to pass several gas stations to get there. Was that a sin? [:D]

I am hoping that next year's event goes better... I wouldn't mind volunteering to take the pictures if needed, lol. They did have a trick contest, I think - but I'm not real sure. It was all going on while we were doing pictures. There are pictures in the paper today of some of the dogs in their costumes - the winning costume was a peacock, if I understood right.

The next fundraising event scheduled is a fancy supper at a local hoity-toity restaurant. At $45 per plate, they can count me out... [8D] They need to raise a little over $300k to reach their goal and think they will do it in the next six weeks. We'll see what happens. I do know that it has gotten very expensive to adopt - kitties are $110, and doggies are $135. [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

In this ex-Wal[:'(]Mart slave employee's opinion, just saying that name is a sin.

THat is alot of money to raise. Feeding the animals has got to cost alot and vet fees, too. I would hope that the fee includes, spay or neuter and updated shots. It also keeps folks from frivolously adopting and then realizing they shouldn't have. I remember an article about never giving away free kittens. I did give away a kitten to a family. Turned out that they couldn't keep it. I found it wandering around my doorway the next morning, minus the kitten toys that they also took.

In the meantime, can we say "Stuff Mart" instead? Ala Veggie Tales? How about WallyWorld?

I have a confession. I saw this, and the words to "Stuff Mart Rap" are now stuck in my head.

It includes microchip insertion, one month health insurance (for certain ailments only) and a spay/neuter at a participating vet's office. However, even if you buy a kitty or puppy that's already been spayed or neutered, the price is the same. No shots are included in the price, except for rabies. It's really discouraging to buy a pet at those prices when there are so many free ones in the local paper, and also for those who think that AKC papers mean something... and sell at prices right above the humane society. More sobering than that - it means a lot of kitties and puppies reach the end of their road when they enter that facility, which is disheartening to me, when simply lowering fees would result in more adoptions, ya know? [&:] I really wish them the best in their fundraising endeavors, but I have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

I love it!

It's VeggieTales, so it can't be sinful..... unless you buy it at the grocery store.

armydude -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/28/2008 7:02:18 PM)

That brings up a question for me. Would it be sinful to watch Veggietales while making a salad?[8D]

phosadaud -> RE: Buying Groceries? (4/28/2008 8:41:11 PM)

Eeeeeks! Do you have any idea how traumatic that must be for Bob, Larry and the French Peas?... How could you even think of doing something like that![sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

Well, from a theo standpoint, I guess it's ok then as long as you cover it with Ranch dressing. [:)]

OMgoodness. Now I have to go to work with a straight face. If I go into work grinning from this conversation, how in the world will I be able to explain it and still sound sane?!?
