Well, I was in Southern Gospel heaven on earth this weekend. Let me tell you about it: It started on Thursday night with a trip to Aiken, SC, to see Triumphant Quartet in their first concert of the year. They have bought some new sound equipment and I thought they really did sound great with it. Here’s what they sang and played: Someday We Know Don’t Let the Sandals Fool Ya Delivered Again Jesus, What a Wonderful Child Look for Me – Eric Bennett is just a master with this song!! Forgave Me, Saved Me, Raised Me Goodbye, World, Goodbye – David and Jeff (you can see my video of this on TQ’s MySpace – www.myspace.com/triumphantquartet ) Old White Flag Jeff Stice ---- Chopstix (video of this is available, too!) and The Hallelujah Chorus The Great I Am Still Is Long, Black Train When Morning Sweeps the Eastern Sky (a capella) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (also a capella) He Is I Know I’m Going Home GREAT concert! Then on Friday, as JimC related, there was the concert with L5, GV, MTT, and Danny Funderburk. All of the artists did really well, and I’m SOOO glad I stayed for the second half (I was pretty sleepy after my late night Thursday!). I won’t list everything that everyone did, but these were my favorites from the evening: A Little Closer Home by MTT – I really love the harmony on this song, especially the blend between Dustin and Eric. God Will Pass By by GV – great song It Means Just What It Says by GV – certainly should be a contender for song of the year! Tim Parton’s solo of In My Heart There Rings a Melody (I’ll try to get the video posted) I Will Serve Thee – during the Cathedrals part of the program – beautifully done! Moving Up to Gloryland - so funny – Gerald on the bass part! I’ll try to post the video of this, too. Jesus Saves by L5 – I’m so glad they did this one, and I’m sure it was meant as a tribute to Roger. I’ll continue later in another post about the Saturday night concert. This is getting pretty long!!

Here’s my report on the concert I went to on Saturday night in Bessemer, Alabama. It featured Karen Peck & New River, Reggie Saddler Family, and Garry Jones. A local group called The Crusaders opened the concert, but I was much too interested in what was coming up to give them much of my attention!! And a young man also played a piano solo, but I can’t remember what it was!! He was really good – and he is only 15!!! Then came Garry Jones on the keyboard!! He played a really nice arrangement of How Majestic Is Your Name. Then he played a lovely medley of When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and Jesus Paid It All. Then another of his signature pieces – Unclouded Day! Garry said he wanted to bring some of his Alabama friends out to sing a few songs and it got even more exciting. Chris West, Josh Feemster, and Brent Mitchell came out and joined Garry on I’m On the Battlefield (here’s the link to the video again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdipD4fGlXw ). That was always one of my favorites and they did a great job! Then Chris’s brother Craig (or maybe Creig – I’m not sure how he spells his name) joined them and Garry returned to the keyboard while the other four men sang I Bowed On My Knees – with Craig having the lead. It was incredible! The audience absolutely loved it!! (Here’s the link again to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3iuREGtX8k ) They closed out their first portion of the program with Too Near Home. The Reggie Saddler Family came on next and I really enjoyed seeing them for the first time in concert (not including NQC). They have a wonderful family blend on everything they sang, which included Whiter Than Snow; I’ve Got Me a Home; One More Time Will Do It; Any Time, Any Place, Any Where; The Real Thing; and Winner Out Of a Sinner. Then Reggie did a little comedy routine that everyone enjoyed. Karen Peck & New River came on from different parts of the stage singing the chorus of Because He Lives a capella. It was very, very nice. Then they sang I Want to Know How It Feels, I’m Saved, Hold Me While I Cry, Gonna Get Up, Hey, and Dirt Road (dedicated to the family of Josh Feemster, whose dad passed away the previous week). Karen sang one verse of Amazing Grace (a capella) and then they sang Four Days Late. Then during the second part of the program, Garry played while the Alabama guys sang One Good Song (I don’t remember hearing that one before, but I thought they sounded remarkably like the Gaither Vocal Band on it) and Midnight Cry (link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23r4VauOGcg ). Garry started singing and playing the song No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus and then the rest of the guys joined him on the chorus. Very, very touching. Reggie’s family sang Start and Finish as well as Keep the Light On. KP&NR sang Last Night and Look What the Lord Has Done. Everyone joined on a couple of extra choruses of Look What the Lord Has Done and stayed out together for How Great Thou Art with daughter Ingra Saddler leading (that girl can SING!) and I’ll Fly Away with first Karen and then Brent leading. Actually, they even did a little encore with Brent leading out again on I’ll Fly Away!!! He does a fabulous job on that song!! What a great, great concert!!!
