Okay, the season is over. One issue is burning in my mind so much I don't think I can discuss any other point until I get it off my chest. The Ace of Clubs is a dive!!!! It's not some swanky high-rise club. The only bright lights it should have are flickering neon beer logos. It should have sawdust on the floor and thugs playing pool. It should be located in Suicide Slum, near the worst part of town. It needs to have a boxer/longshoreman drinking there by the name of Bibbo Bibbowski (who will eventually buy the bar after winning the lottery). Okay, I'm done with my rant. Is anyone else still watching?

I had missed several episodes at the beginning of the season because we didn't know it was back on. We don't watch anything else on that channel so hadn't seen any commercials for it. But we pieced together what had happened from what was said in each episode. In the original stories was there anything like this device that could control Clark? And did Lex ever know that Clark was really Superman?

I collected comics up until I got married 14 years ago. In continuity at that time, Lex never knew that Clark was Superman. And, no, there was no such device to control him. Of course, the whole meteor freaks thing is strictly a creation of the show. When I stopped collecting, there was no longer a Superboy, and Clark never dated Lana. She was his best friend with whom he shared the secret of his powers. I believe she actually ended up marrying Pete Ross. In spite of all the changes, I do enjoy the show. Norman

ORIGINAL: ddsisson The Ace of Clubs, this "info" is it from the Comics or the Movie? The comic books. Though, the animated series featured Bibbo and the Ace O' Clubs as well. Bibbo is one of my favorite characters in the comics, and I'm sad to see that his bar has been turned into a place where he wouldn't even be welcome, and certainly not a place he would approve of. Bibbo is awesome. When Superman died in the comics, Bibbo put on a superman T-shirt and went out to give sandwiches to the homeless in Supe's honor. (and dove in the river to save a puppy while he was at it). He may be a fighter who has taken a few too many blows to the head, but he's also a genuine nice guy who thinks of others above himself. In my opinion, Smallville needs to start putting heroes in Clark's life to start showing him what it means to be a hero (with and without powers, fighting villains or just helping people), cuz Clark seems pretty wishy-washy and indecisive most of the time. My top picks for heroes to show Clark whats-what: - Bibbo - The Guardian (and the Newsboy Legion!... maybe) - Abin Sur or Alan Scott (or another experienced Green Lantern, give Clark a galactic perspective) - Jay Garrick or Max Mercury (or another Golden Age hero, Clark needs to know that being a hero goes way back) - Gangbuster (neighborhood perspective, Clark has been too global lately) - Detective Dan "Terrible" Turpin (Clark has had far too many bad experiences with law enforcement) and, I'd put the Spectre on the list, but Clark already seems to have gotten the whole "It's a Wonederful Life" treatment. As for what I thought of the season finale, and the season leading up to it. Well, good grief, I should have caught on that Kara was not Kara much earlier, but I had fun finding out it was Brainiac. I still don't think that Brainiac was used very well, and that he was more Eradicator than Brainiac, but I can live with that. What I'm really hoping is that Lana is gone, gone, gone, gone, gone!!!! Lana is annoying. quote:
In the original stories was there anything like this device that could control Clark? With all the times that Superman has done crazy stuff (witness a whole site called SuperDickery), I'd be very surprised if there has never been a device used to control Superman. However, I don't think that this specific device, tied to the fortress and Krypton has ever been done. quote:
And did Lex ever know that Clark was really Superman? Lex, despite being a criminal mastermind, and and a scientific genius, is a total idiot, apparently. One stunning example, during the "Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite", Mr. Mxyzptlk made a deal with Lex to take away Superman's powers (actually, to make Lex as powerful as Superman, but twisted), but Lex had to agree to not tell Superman. Near the end of the story arc, Lex gloats to Clark Kent, thinking he's just a reporter. Then Superman gets his powers back, and Lex complains to Mr. Mxyzptlk that he didn't tell Superman, just Clark Kent... And it still doesn't dawn to Luthor that Clark is Superman! Batman figures it out. Lois figures it out (but doesn't tell Clark until he tells her). A nearly no-name villain called Conduit figures it out (though, to be fair, he was a Smallville meteor freak before Smallville started doing freak-of-the-week stories. Growing up with Clark allowed him to figure things out). I don't think Lex Luthor ever has... even after dating Supergirl (version 2, I think) who had lived with Ma and Pa Kent.

All this is comic book related right? I haven't seen much as far as comic book Superman stuff goes, but I have watched ALL the Superman Movies-starring Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh. Also I have watched all Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Also I used to watch re-runs of Adventures of Superman with George Reeve, but that was YEARS ago.

We watched it... I don't like Lana, never have - she's just whiny and a one-note character. I like cliff-hanger season finales, so this one was pretty good. My husband, of course is all about the comics and has totally given up on trying to compare the series since it refuses to stay within the comic book stories.

I was a huge comic book collector as a kid and teen, and really got into the Smallville series... I realized very soon on however that they are telling a slightly different story about Superman-before-he-was-Superman in Smallville, adding different characters, changing around the history, etc. but I'm okay with that. I quite enjoy the show myself! However, because of the busyness of my schedule, I am not always able to catch it on TV - just a few episodes here and there - so I usually wait until the DVD comes out and then I watch the whole season in a few weeks time (without commercials!). Good stuff...
