Why is this thread called "Reformed Theology Chat?" Hmmmmm. I would much prefer something like: "Believers of God's Soveriegnty"

If the former, I would say it doesn't quite cover the scope of things. If the latter, I would ask why the concept of God's sovereignty would cause you such a chuckle. (No offense... might be the current environment, that I'm not taking things on face value.)

Too bad one has to ask that on this thread. People, we're all Christians here. Discussion is good. Insult is sin, regardless of your doctrinal persuasion. Please let's play nice so that God is glorified! besiderself

we are talking about 2 different things with the same name. e.g. paul was on the way to damascus to id a christian so he could be killed. JESUS laid him on the ground blind as a bat. that's election a la calvinism. i elected of my own free will to follow JESUS. that's free will. so you could elect to go with one or another. the HOLY SPIRIT usually encourages but the HOLY SPIRIT goes where HE wants to go. not where i want HIM to go.

Thanks John for your thought. It was so well said, I pasted it into my journal. April thank you for your prayers and hugs. Jimbo too. They help ever so much. This past week as been emotionally hard. I met a lawyer and scheduled an appt, visited the Gate House hospice center, and stopped by the funeral home. Not giving up on faith, just taking care of business so I can put IT in a box and move on with living.

ORIGINAL: pricelesspearl I haven't had time lately to keep up with the thread...but if I could interrupt...and request prayer for my son, Sean. The restaurant he works at was robbed and his manager was shot and killed in front of him. And there were other complicating circumstances I don't have time to go into. He is doing better, but still having a difficult time of things. I sure would appreciate prayer right now. I'm so sorry! I'll pray. Doveflight, I'll pray for you, too.

Eph, Chances are, you won't get a response from Ted. I believe (based on reading his comments regarding this visit in the blog from whence he came) that his self-appointed mission was to swoop in to give me a spanking as best as he could muster, and then swoop out again.

In case you haven't heard... there is a movie coming out April 18, starring Ben Stein ("Buehler.... Buehler..."), called "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed"... http://www.expelledthemovie.com/ ... about the scientific community's squelching of heretical thoughts that God might have had something to do with anything. (Sort of like the church refusing to allow discussion of a round earth, back in the day... but now the pendulum has swung to the other side).

ORIGINAL: Geocacher301 Interesting discussion you both had. Doinkdom: Thanks for at least reading the posts. Some of your responses are the typical ones that people on the blog said came from people that attended a Sovereign Grace Church. Just curious. Is this a "denomination"? Since all grace is from God,who is sovereign, why does "sovereign grace" seem to be a code word for reformed theology? Thanks.

Sovereign Grace is a ministry that has a network of church plants for lack of a better description. They have been around awhile. Their theology is considered reformed.

I don't think it's a code word. Reformed Theology is just theology. Sovereign Grace Ministries is a church. I linked it so if you wanna check it out.

Great stuff.... C. H. SPURGEON I have my own private opinion that there is no such thing as preaching Christ and Him crucified, unless we preach what nowadays is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else. I do not believe we can preach the gospel, if we do not preach justification by faith, without works; nor unless we preach the Sovereignty of God in His dispensation of grace; nor unless we exalt the electing, unchangeable, eternal, immutable, conquering love of Jehovah; nor do I think we can preach the gospel, unless we base it upon the special and particular redemption of His elect and chosen people which Christ wrought out upon the cross; nor can I comprehend a gospel which lets saints "fall away" after they are called, and suffers the children of God to be burned in the fires of damnation after having once believed in Jesus—such a gospel I abhor. Can you understand it, for I cannot, how a man is a free agent, a responsible agent, so that his sin is his own wilful sin and lies with him and never with God, and yet at the same time God's purposes are fulfilled and his will is done even by demons and corrupt men? I cannot comprehend it: without hesitation I believe it, and rejoice so to do , I never hope to comprehend it. -- Charles Haddon Spurgeon I do not come into this pulpit hoping that perhaps somebody will of his own free will return to Christ. My hope lies in another quarter. I hope that my Master will lay hold of some of them and say, "You are mine, and you shall be mine. I claim you for myself." My hope arises from the freeness of grace, and not from the freedom of the will. Charles Haddon Spurgeon As sure as God puts His children in the furnace he will be in the furnace with them. Charles H Spurgeon I wonder if he's referring to my favorite verse... Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. Hi, John :) John
