Hey, everyone,

This is a cool idea. Fellowship with other people in reformed circles would be a welcome change from constantly defending the faith.

So what's everyone subscribe to? WCF? Three forms of unity? Heidelberg Catechism?

Matt, I don't know that I subscribe to anything. I tend to agree with what I've read of the WCF and the HC. I don't know what three forms of unity are.

The Heidelberg catechism is part of the three forms of unity, it's just the most famous part. The other two are the belgic confession and canons of dordt. Of the three I like the Heidelberg Catechism the best for the reason that it doesn't contain much anti catholic language beyond question 33... a very vague reference to Rome.

The three forms of unity refer to the Belgic Confession (1561), Heidelberg Catechism (1563) & the Canons of Dort (1619), which the Dutch and German Reformed folk follow.

I don't have time to reread those three. I did not disagree with them when I read them in the past.

I suppose I get antsy about the term "subscribe to"-- though I know you don't mean it that way-- I consider (and notice) that my understanding of scripture changes with time... it seems to be refining itself, though I have had some "WOW" surprises at times... If I say I "subscribe" to something, it implies to me that I would stick to that something come hell or high water.

Now, why does everybody want to hide these days?

I suppose I run more risks than any of you -- traveling to and from restricted countries. Last Summer my wife and I were traveling in a place US citizens are not supposed to go. But there is my name, my email address, and several ways to IM me should anyone care.

Well, I'm not hiding, I'm just trying to get the forum to stop showing my name in my profile. I've turned on all the privacy, and it was still showing, so I removed it. I don't mind showing my name on something, but when I tell a website to not do something, I mean for it do what asked it to do.

Well, you don't have to re-read them, I was just curious. I've found the heidelberg catechism to be very faithful to scripture, and really only covers the basics. The the larger Westminster confession is the one that's very detailed.

As far as being antsy is concerned, it's my belief that if people would hold to the historic creeds and test them, we'd have less weirdness in the name of Christ than we do.

... about profiles, I was able to simply delete my last name and "apply" it... I've seen other profiles that people have deleted their entire name.

Wow, moving over to the new forums was a good thing because otherwise I probably wouldn't have discovered the Reformed chat.

Being PCA, I officially subscribe to the Westminster Confession, though I probably ought to read the whole thing some point. [8|]

On a somewhat different topic, my little brother is going to a christian college that shall remain unnamed to protect the guilty [:)] but which is not Reformed, and he's getting tired of having almost every professor take every possible opportunity to mock Calvinism in class. You don't expect to go off to a christian college and have everybody mocking your beliefs, but that's the way it's turned out. What especially bugs him is that there are theology professors who talk about Reformed theology and what they say that Reformed people believe is, more often than not, completely wrong. And, his english comp professor doesn't know the difference between Calvinists, puritians and pilgrims.

I found an interesting quote - I'm going to adjust it just a tiny bit but it is from scripture:

Anyway - I like the Cannons of Dort also
However, and I may get stoned for saying this in here - I am also currently looking into Molinism. Some verses I read in the bible seem like Calvinism must be true. Others seem to say that Calvinism cannot be true. Molinism seems to be a bridge between the two doctrines and possibly it might lead me to some answers. We will see.
