Dumb and Dumber. I can't believe I sat thru the entire movie.
Billy Jack. Good story, bad acting.
Another vote for Borat being bad.

Kangaroo Jack, anyone?

Or how about the countless amounts of Christmas movies with Tim Allen?

DreadPirateRandy -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (4/18/2008 6:07:35 AM)

I always have a random quote from Kangaroo Jack pop into my head. Such as, "I think I just sweated out a bottle of Yoo-hoo I drank in the eighth grade."

War of the Worlds did indeed suck. I mean, Tom Cruise, nuff' said.

I still say the worst movie of all time is Troll II. Seriously. Worst acting ever. Worst plot ever (it's about goblins, not trolls, unlike the title suggests)... I mean, the trolls die by some kid eating a bologna sandwich. It doesn't get more lame than that.

Would I be a bad person if I put Facing the Giants on this list? [8|]

Not a bad person . . . just a misguided one!

It seems that people have expectations when they go into the theater and certain movies have very low expectations and others have very high expectations. Can we legitimately condemn a movie that has low expectations, when we clearly didn't expect it to be good? We go to some movies based upon a recommendations, either a critic or a friend and these set up expectations.

Comedies for instance: we expect them to make us laugh, if they don't then they fail to meet their expectations. Typical dramas must at least have some logical plot lines that can lead us through their action, and when they leave holes where explanations need to be make it hard to follow.

Simply being disappointed in some feature of a movie doesn't qualify it as the worst ever and many people in this thread have taken out this disappointment on the latest movie that left them less than enthused.

For a movie to begin to qualify as the worst movie ever it must have certain high expectations, some actor, writer, or director connected with the movie who has reputations to live up to. It must have some theme which attracts us to it which might lift us into new insights or new ways of thinking about life in general and without exception leave this theme or insight as dead or worthless as it can be. It must be advertised as some great new concept and so defame all those who participated in making it that some of their careers are in the dust.

Frankly very few of the many films mentioned here have those qualifications. In search of such films you can easily search out the Rotten Tomatoes website and see the history and rankings of hundreds of films. I endorse their methodology and ability to bring in massive feedback to rank them and generally I agree with their list of worst films. To reach the ranks of the worst though means they have a ranking below 20 at Rotten Tomatoes. My own favorite of the worst is still Myra Breckenridge which only got a 25 % ranking.

That would face pretty stiff competition with all other movies with Tim Allen.

stellaluna -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (4/23/2008 2:05:20 PM)

Showgirls is the worst ever.

1) terrible storyline
2) worse acting
3) even worse dancing
4) a bunch of nekkid people with no explanation why*

* I have known A LOT of different kinds of people over the years, including strippers and others with...questionable...careers. None of them ever felt it necessary to just walk around naked all the time. [8|]

Anyone ever see an old Sci-fi stinker called "dark Star?" Egad! This was on back when there were still late-night movies on commercial TV. It might be on DVD, but don't waste your $$$!

whisper -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (4/25/2008 1:34:55 PM)

Hmm. . .

I'll have to wait on commenting on worst movie of "all time" but I can mention a few that immediately sprang to mind:

There was this one movie about killing dragons that was fairly hyped a number of years ago. I think I've blocked out its name. It was supremely boring. I walked out of the theatre.

Recently I watched August Rush and LOVED it! But WOW the dialogue was terrible!!

alias007 -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (5/6/2008 2:17:37 PM)

I'll have to say The Mist.

As a whole, I wouldn't categorize it as the worst movie ever, but the horrible ending easily places it in that category for me. I was actually sick to my stomach after seeing that movie. Why they didn't stick with the book ending, I'll never know...

Oh, and The Grudge 2 (why oh why did we rent that movie?)

MSnurse -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (5/9/2008 12:10:26 PM)

Joe vs the volcano with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan...just awful! [:'(]

Ah, c'mon! It wasn't that bad, was it?! I actually enjoyed that one. It wasn't an Ingmar Bergmann epic, but it wasn't complete and utter dreck.

Ha, ha! How about "Ice Pirates"

14LoveandPeace88 -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (5/13/2008 1:35:45 AM)

Sin City. At least they got the title right. Yikes, I was offended by the shear amount of sin that was promoted by that film.

everythingat -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (5/13/2008 6:03:38 AM)

You went and saw a movie called Sin City and were surprised by the amount of sin in it? Well...I can understand that. Seeing as the title would mislead you and all.

I cast my vote for anything that has to do with Michael Bay.

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (5/13/2008 10:47:48 AM)

Two of my least favourite movies..."Meet Joe Black" and "Bicentennial Man"

Both dragged on forever...I walked out of the room during "Meet Joe Black", did some chores, came back, and didn't miss anything. [8|]

I loved Meet Joe Black! I thought it was some of Brad Pitt's best work. Granted, it was a bit long, but I thought the music, the acting, the dialogue, etc. was all very well done.
