Say, has anyone ever seen, or at least heard of William Friedkin's "Cruising?" It's basically about an undercover cop investigating a series of grisly murders around this New York gay leather bar. Down the line, the cop encounters not only the usual strain of undercover work, but likewise with questioning his sexual orientation; Yikes! So, when Friedkin decided to helm this project, he casted (GASP![sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif][:'(]) Al Pacino playing the cop <shudders>[:'(]. Though the film was heavily panned in its initial (1980) release for being homophobic, it somehow earned some degree of respectability decades later, presumably by some portions of the gay community who sees Cruising as a time capsule of the pre-AIDS era of sex culture... sorta like Armisted Maupin's "Tales of The City." Especially with internet chatter of deleted graphic scenes, I don't know how well I could stomach the original content. The script was supposedly based on an old New York Times article from the post-Stonewall 70's. I guess I'll have to watch Scarface and the whole Godfather trilogy after watching this notorious flop-turned 'cult classic!'
