Um, Steve Martin was not in the Naked Gun movies (or anything remotely resembling them).....

Right you are, Tafkam. That would be one Leslie Neilsen, who also was in the two "Airplane" films.

I loved Steve Martin in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", and both "Father of the Bride" movies. . .but most everything else he's in I dislike.

The only movie I've ever walked out on in my entire life. And I see movies at least once a month.

I hated "Starship Troopers" when I first saw it but not because of anything technical about the filmmaking but mainly because I percieved it championing a "might makes right" attitude. Then I found out about the history of not just the film "Starship Troopers" but it's source material and the 40 years of controversy that precluded the film.
In a nutshell, I reacted as I was suppsed to react, only I didnt' realize that it was being presented in a satirical manner.
Not to get too deep into the matter but the film (and Heinlein's book) is intended to be an indictment of Fascism. The troopers are actually the bad guys and as we are basically witnessing a sci-fi scenario of a fascist state. There are tons of parallels to Nazi Germany and WWII as well as commentary to the use of the media as propoganda.
There is a lot more going on in this movie than big bugs. Read up on it.

My worst list is:
ID4: I hated, hated, hated this movie. Worthless in every regard. The aliens are Giger rip-offs, the acting is phoned in at best, and the story even by cheesy sci-fi standards is abysmal.

The Item: So bad most people probably haven't heard of it. I like horror films so I got suckered into renting this mess. So bad it needs to be studied.

Pretty Woman: Cinderella story about a hooker. How many times have we seen that played out...not. The great Ken Russell even made an entire film (I won't type the title but it is a word for prostitute that begins with "W") as a response to it. I've seen "Hookers at the Point" and none of them look like Julia Roberts.

Battlefield Earth: Who'd have thought that the father of scientology would come up with something so ridiculous (note sarcasm). The best part is in the commentary when Travolta smugly says that when they were in production that there were tons of people who "just wanted to be attached to the project." Apparently he did his commentary before the film was released. Tony Minero should be ashamed of this.

Troll 2: Mess doesn't even begin to describe this. The best part is when the kid pees on the family's dinner so they won't become trolls. I'm not kidding.

Jaws: the Revenge: For the last time, sharks don't roar.

Tideland: (I know this has been discussed earlier and I don't want to offend anyone that liked Tideland) I had never used the term, "that was two hours of my life I'll never get back" until I saw "Tideland." I like Terry Gilliam. I really liked "Brazil, 12 Monkeys" "Time Bandits" and "the Fisher King" along with the Python stuff, but this is too much. I would actually go so far as to call it self indulgent. Apparently this is very important to Gilliam but I think I will pass.

I've read the original (Robert A.) Heinlein novel, when it was served as a movie tie-in. I have to admit that I initially liked the movie... until I started growing up a bit! But yeah... I started getting into the book's controversial history, given it was published around the late 50's/mid 60's as a kiddie sci-fi text... never mind the fact that around that time, the Vietnam War and pacifist sentiment placed this satirical text out of context. I think I even heard that Heinlein was accused of being a saber rattler!

I'm with you on Ken Russell's W****. I've been told that upon Pretty Woman's (theatrical) release, many abused, runaway teen girls had been influenced into taking up the oldest profession in the world, perhaps as their naive way of finding their Prince Charming, or even Richard Gere.

It didn't have to be that deplorable--at least regarding long term ramifications--if the studio or script team would stick to its original alternate ending, when Roberts' character had to go back to the streets, for whatever reasons, but that deleted part of the script (provided if they have a deleted ending in the first place...) would have been more effective as both a dramatic piece AND possibly a more realistic one at bet.

But chalk it up to the Disney studio brass for affecting the final outcome via their subsidiary production Co.

BTW: the way you described you disdain for ID4 reminds me of Roger Ebert's book of the same name! Have you read it? 'cause I'm thinking about starting a little thread here!

I have not read the Ebert book but it sounds interesting. I have been a fan of his for many years since I saw Siskel and Ebert review "Halloween" when it first came out.
I was working in a video store when "Pretty Woman" came out and I remember all these 13-14 year old girls coming in and talking about how romantic it was. I was pretty sickened.

They're eating her! And then they're gonna eat me!! OHHHH MYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!! (pardon the blasphemy!)

I totally agree with you, lol.

But who said that the Naked Gun movies were terrible? I laugh so hard when I watch them, and I've seen them so much already. That scene where he parks his car and knocks all those people off that platform, and then his airbags go off and put the car in neutral so that it rolls away, and then Leslie Nielsen thinks it's a bad guy and starts shooting at the car....oh man, that's seriously one of my favorite movie scenes ever.

Titanic - the love scene was unnecessary, and the New Age mumbo-jumbo about how everyone finds their true love in the afterlife was just plain stupid. Worst 3 hours of my life in the theater.

As much as I like the Star Wars movies -- Episode 1 was the worst of all six. Not worst movie of all time, but worst of all six Star Wars.

As much of a cult favorite as it might be - Spinal Tap was pretty bad, but it was pretty funny too.

Starship Troopers was pretty bad.

Matrix 2 was pretty bad. Made me not want to see 3.

Any of the movies that Hulk Hogan starred in were pretty bad.

Any Vin Diesel movie after Pitch Black was bad. That was the only good one he did.

Did you see where that piece of junk won the ESPY as "Best Sports Movie?" I couldn't even believe it!! It beat out "Invinceable," "Pride," and "We Are...MARSHALL." How stupid can the voters be?!?!

Well, of course, which is why it puts it as one of the worst movies. Not to mention the fact that the band was fictional too.
