I was surprised a few days later when at the NQC, Kim powerfully sang the first verse of their current hit, "When I Knelt, The Blood Fell" and then quietly walked over to this same young lady who was now standing on the edge of the stage. Kim handed her the mic, and Amy Lambert walked to center stage. When she opened her mouth to sing, the crowd went wild! She sounded JUST like Kim, and everyone knew that they had literally witnessed a 'changing of the guards', as far as The Greenes were concerned. It was truly an awesome thing to see. In time, Amy grew into her own sound, but for a while, her initial popularity was based on the fact that she sounded so much like Kim.

I remember that. The Greenes were unstoppable during the Amy Lambert years (IMO). I lived in Maryland at the time and they would always come to Lancaster PA in February with the Kingdom Heirs and Gold City. The Greenes stole the show. I remember when they used to stage "Shelter From The Storm". It was a slower number and they would end their set with it. They would walk off the stage into the audience singing accapella. It was a sight to behold. It brought the house down.

Do you know how I can get some of the recordings of the Greenes when Kim was with them?? I used to watch Sing Out America on tv, and they had groups from the 80s on them, and I watched the Greenes when Kim was on there...but I have never been able to find any of their recordings from that time.

jchaz: Thanks for sharing that about the NQC, I have wondered if anyone experienced that night. I thought Amy sounded like Kim, too, and I think TaRanda sounds like her as well.

This is concerning Kim's sister-in-law, TaRanda...I received an email from Tony:

TaRanda has not had the baby yet. She is bout two weeks away. Thank you for praying for her and the new baby. By the way, she has named her Jocylan Ruth Greene and will call her Josie.

I have a question concerning Kim Hopper and the Greenes:
Okay, Ronnie Brookshire is Tim, Kim, and Tony's half brother, does anyone know how he is a half brother? I have wondered this since I read it in a Getting To Know You article about Kim, and she mentioned it.

I just got two records off of e-bay... The Singing Greenes "Gloryland" from 1982 and Evergreene from 1985.

I don't have an answer to this, but he is listed as their drummer on their 1982 album.

Not bad. In the 1982 album, it was really fun to hear how Kim's voice has developed over the years. Tony was still a pre-teen or young teen in the first of the two records and he still has a high pitch child's voice. Cute! The quality isn't great, but then it was an early album for them too so that makes sense. The singing wasn't great and the song choices weren't great, but again, it was early.

By 1985 they seemed to have gotten it more togther. The songs are a lot better. The singing is better. The sound is better. Kim's voice is more dynamic, though not with the depth she has now. I loved the second album the most of the two.

Are you talking about the Timepieces, volumes 1 and 2? If so, you will be pleased. A lot of great songs contained on both.

Is anyone besides me up at the crack of dawn to listen to the Hoppers on the radio station? I am fostering 2 newborn (well, they are 2 weeks old now) puppies so I had to get up at 5 anyway. I was thinking the other day that Karlye is really getting tall. Dean just said she is almost 5'9"!!!
