My camera has auto focus and zoom already.

Hmmm.....Methinks our definition of 'point and shoot' differs somewhat

Hmm. Now I see what you mean by Point and Shoot.

I like the easy way, and just buy the group's photo at the table, so i don't have to horse around taking pictures. I'd rather not take pictures at a concert, too much trouble, i like to just relax and enjoy the concert.

I think my problem is that "I am a Senior Member, with Senior Citzen discounts, having a Geezer Moment" and really not very computer savy, but I do love my digital camera.

Amen to that, David. I just never really got into taking pics.

I love to pick up my favorite groups' signed poster pictures for a few bucks though.

A funny picture story happened when I was at a Greater Vision concert, and Gerald noticed that a lady was trying to get a picture while they were singing a song, but the song ended before she got a pic. So, Gerald told the guys to get into the "ending a song" pose - which they did, bending backward or forward with their mouths open acting like they were tearing it up - and told the lady to take her picture. It was hysterical.

Too funny!

A few years ago there was an older lady trying to take a picture of Tracy Stuffle. She kept standing up in front of people... Anyway, Tracy got off the stage and was walking around behind her. You should have seen her jump when he made a funny face as she turned around. LOL

I'm with you! , but, when i used to tape pictures, the ones that came out the best were of the artists at their record table or at a booth at the NQC or in the hallway, etc. But the ones of them singing on stage always came out pretty ****py!

I take like a 100 pictures at every concert Im at!!!! Literally!
I went to a Gold City concert the other day and my pictures were soo dark! So my friend who came with us told me to try to turn off my flash and see if that would help! So I tried it and my pictures were crystal clear!!! So try to turn off your flash! That should clear your pics up!!!

I'm sure the artists would appreciate it if everyone turned off their flash.

I wonder if that distracts the singers when they are singing and people are snapping cameras in their faces constantly? It's gotta be.

I will try this at the next concert I attend.

Yes and no. I believe (from my few experiences) that the lights on theater stages are often so blinding you can't even see the audience, and if you can't see them, you might not even know. But when they do know, it might be distracting.

Or, if they keep the houselights on, there's enough light to not make it too distracting.

I have found that most artist will let you take their picture at the product table after the concert, if you will just give them a few minutes to deal with all of the crowd after the concert. They will be more than happy to let you take all you want, within reason. I have gotten some very good ones there. I will have to figure out how to turn off my camera so the flash will not work during a concert and try that.

DM;

I was a professional photographer and engineer for the Polaroid Corp. and the Eastman Kodak Co. for over 13 years. I use a Nikon F100 film camera with film rated at 1200, the results are very good. I now have a Nikon D80 Digital SLR and I got outstanding results at the fan fest in Fresno, I used a sensor rating of 3200 and used a 300 MM 5.6 lens from the cheap seats near the upper concourse, the results are pretty good. I just relied on the stage lighting.

My grandfather used to sing in a barbershop quartet and a BS chorus. He told me that flash photography was strictly prohibited. Especially compititions. That was that way when I went with them to just a show. That was an interesting night. I saw the Gas House Gang, and the City Lights (a ladies group), believe me, they lit the place up! Then the Big Apple Chorus performed. This was 80 barbershop men in one chorus. The power that came at you was amazing! I often thought it would be a neat thing to try with SG quartets(at NQC), especially after they sang a couple old hymns.
I would love a chorus of base singers!!!! Do we have enough of them????

Interesting! How expensive are the types of cameras you mentioned?

All right. Here is an example of what I am talking about. Here's a photo taken from the front row of a well-lit church at last night's Mercy's Mark concert:

http://www.southerngospelblog.com/images/100_0614.jpg

After I run a few brightness controls, it comes out like this:

http://www.southerngospelblog.com/images/100_0614_2.jpg

It's a much better overall impression, but look at the details and it's awful. What do you do that works?

Daniel, I went to your site and didn't see how to view images. Have you got any besides these posted of this or other concerts?

No, not really. I just made this folder to put them up so that the folks on this site could see the two pictures I was discussing. If my pictures turned out photo-quality, like you'd expect a good photo to look like, then I'd seriously consider incorporating them into my blog.

I really wish that all churches and other venues would leave the house lights on and get rid of the spotlight stuff......not only would it make photography easier, but I think it's just so pointless.

In a perfect world, how bout 80 Glen Dustins????????

I would still like a quartet chorus, if you heard the barbershop one, you would agree!
I wasn't into even going to that concert, but my Grandparents friends were called out of town, so they had two extra tickets. I really didn't know what to expect. But, I have to say that it was a great night. They sang everything from old hymns to comedy type songs.
