One year on, Hamas deepens rule in Gaza GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - A year into Hamas' rule in the Gaza Strip, courts are meting out justice, police are arresting thieves, motorists are paying for licenses and authorities are blocking Internet porn sites. At the same time, Gazans are stocking up on vegetable oil — not for cooking, but to run their cars during a severe fuel shortage. A punishing Israeli-led blockade has forced 80 percent of the people to rely on United Nations food handouts. With sanitation services collapsing, millions of gallons of raw sewage are flowing into the sea. Enemies of the regime have been silenced. A year after Hamas militants seized power in five days of bloody fighting that included tossing rivals off high-rise rooftops, it's become clear that Israel's boycott of Gaza has not significantly weakened Hamas and its control is deepening. When are we going to realize that non-dialogue, collective punishment, and blockades don't really work?

Abbas attacks settlement growth before Olmert talks RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said before meeting Israel's prime minister on Monday that settlement expansion, including newly announced building, was the main hurdle to a statehood deal. Israel disclosed plans on Sunday to construct nearly 900 new homes in areas of the occupied West Bank that the Israeli government considers part of Jerusalem, despite U.S. and Palestinian calls to halt all settlement expansion. Here they go again! Israel keeps trying to force "peace" by only their terms. This will only lead to more violence and insecurity in the region. As more Arab nations get nuclear capabilities, Israel's advantage/deterrance will disappear and then no Israel will be around to make peace with! They are trying to establish de facto borders through their own form of ethnic cleansing. Or maybe it's a more ancient form of manifest destiny.

I am sorry but I don't see the correlation of what I said and this quote that refers to the fact that God will be magnified from (or beyond) the borders of Israel? Please clarify because I think I am missing your meaning.

Remember the Babylonian captivity and the Babylonians also destroyed the Ark of the Covenant in 587 BC and dispersed the people. There is also the fall of Samaria to Sargon II the Assyrian. He will not blindly protect the country from invasion from countries that do not worship the one true God. Even a few chapters later from Malachi in the NT, John the Baptist is telling the religious leaders that they cannot pride themselves on the claim that they are "children of Abraham". Israel is always God's special people because through them Jesus came into the world but that will not shield them from any turmoil that God may see fit to bring upon them to prompt them to turn back to Him.

WE got Hamas elected with our "spread democracy" I agree that our (the US and Israel's) heavy handedness in the region has produced a very serious backlash among other nations and peoples. If Israel had shown a consistent willingness to deal in good faith the peace process as well as their territorial security would be further along! But they say they want to deal reasonably while they build more settlements that have the only purpose of trying to solidify their hold in the West Bank. BTW, wasn't it "find the WMD's?"

I'm of a different color when it comes to Israel. I think they should've kicked out the "Palenstinians/Arabs when they kicked their butts in the 1967 6 day War. (thorn in side) Then all this would not be about. I think I would not give them any of Israel. Especially not Jerusalem. I don't think we Babylon er America and Israel will ever be able to get peace.

Next stop for US forces - Iran. The case is being made. I am having a 2002-2003 deja vous experience. Olmert talks tough on Iran's nuclear program "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Tuesday Iran's nuclear program must be stopped by "all possible means" and Tehran must be made to see it would suffer devastating repercussions if it pursued atomic weapons. The Israeli leader, under criminal investigation at home that could drive him from office, issued his strongest warning yet to Iran in a policy speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobbying group. "The Iranian threat must be stopped by all possible means," said Olmert, who is expected to discuss the issue in talks with U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday. "The international community has a duty and responsibility to clarify to Iran, through drastic measures, that the repercussions of their continued pursuit of nuclear weapons will be devastating," Olmert added." AND Ayatollah vows Iran's nuclear program will go on "TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's supreme leader said Tuesday that "no wise nation" would pursue nuclear weapons but his country will continue to develop its nuclear program for "peaceful purposes". Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appeared to be reacting to suggestions by the International Atomic Energy Agency that Tehran may be withholding information on secret attempts to make nuclear weapons. Mohamed ElBaradei, the head of the IAEA, told the 35 nations on the agency's board that the Islamic Republic had not provided requested information needed for his investigation." Emphasis and sarcastic quotation marks added. Is Israel asking us to use Iraqi airspace for there strike against Iran? Or do they want us to do the dirty work so they won't have to suffer the repercussions of such a move?

Granted we already have the troops on both sides of Iran (a fact that was not lost on me in 2003) so the logistical bases are already set up. But if war were to happen expect a resumption of the draft and $7-10 a gallon gas!!

Israel attack on Iran "unavoidable": Olmert deputy "JERUSALEM (Reuters) - An Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites looks "unavoidable" given the apparent failure of sanctions to deny Tehran technology with bomb-making potential, one of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's deputies said on Friday. "If Iran continues with its program for developing nuclear weapons, we will attack it. The sanctions are ineffective," Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz told the mass-circulation Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper. "Attacking Iran, in order to stop its nuclear plans, will be unavoidable," said the former army chief who has also been defense minister. It was the most explicit threat yet against Iran from a member of Olmert's government, which, like the Bush administration, has preferred to hint at force as a last resort should U.N. Security Council sanctions be deemed a dead end." I can hear the price of oil creeping up as I read this. We might be tangled in another war before elections.

The Iranians are not going to halt and Isreal will not put up with it whether we do or not. Oil will double, the beginning of the end. (dramatic I know but, I can't see anyway past this that isn't catastrophic.)

Iran is an oppressive government with an unhealthy fundementalist mindset. It also has the most western-friendly population in the region. But me/us disliking them doesn't make it lawful to just bomb away, you know. Iran could with the very same arguments bomb Israel, since Israel is a very vocal threat to Iranian security. WormHeart

There is absolutely no reason to attack Iran, just like there was no reason to attack Iraq. We've made enough sacrifices, already. I feel it every time I put gas in my car.

No wormheart, not necissarily, I was just confirming your stance, I couldn't really tell by your statemtent and I have not read any previous post if you have them. Stating that Iran will be within its rights to bomb back seems a bit like... IDK.. just confirming again. Hey theo, so let's suppose that Iran goes ahead with it's intention of bomb building to bring complete destruction on the entire earth, how much of a sacrifice are you willing to make then. Not better to sacrifice now than later? I mean, if Iran gets enough power, backed by Russia (they are ya know) we may be giving up more rights then you care to think about or didn't really realize we had in the first place, is that what you want? Let's think for a minute, Iran wants the entire world do see things their way, Islamic law and such... Well? I guess it will be a sacrifice to be a martyr for the Christian cause. I am looking forward to that day! YOU???

freak, do you just come in here to try to irritate people or do you actually have anything thoughtful to say on the subject? There's no credible evidence that Iran is building bombs, so Israel's and the U.S.'s threats are baseless, just like they were on Iraq.
