This is gut-wrenching. Idon't even know what to say except that I pray for the Lord's peace to be on everyone affected by this tragedy. Benoit was one of my favorites and I just can't even put into words how I feel about this except numb.

AP: Benoit strangled wife, smothered son

ATLANTA - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press Tuesday.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son who were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

It is gut-wrenching. It was really sad to see how young the boy was. It's hard for me to believe. I will be praying for those affected also and definitely for people like Chris who are dangers to themselves and others-wrestlers and non-wrestlers.

Fwanger -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 3:08:12 PM)

I just don't understand why the mortality rate with these wrestlers seems to be so high! [:@] It almost seems like every week we are losing one of them. [:(]

And I just cannot comprehend why he would kill his wife and child. That is just a kick to the teeth. CNN said that the authorities are not factoring out steroid use.

EDIT: It was just released on CNN.com that he smothered them and hung himself. I just don't know....[:(]

laura... -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 3:22:28 PM)

It really sounds like roid-rage. They may not have the toxicology reports for a couple of weeks.

The mortality rate is high because it is a dangerous sport mixed with steroid use and pain drugs. They beat their bodies up.

I took a quick look at the WWE website to see if they had any new news. I noticed that the investigation into the "presumed death of VM" is nowhere to be seen. I suspect that story line will never be mentioned again.

I can't help but think of the millions of dollars this tragedy is costing WWE: rental of last night's arena, all the tickets sold that will either be reimbursed or replaced, the money spent in promoting a story line that is now defunct, etc.

cinderella092003 -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 4:32:39 PM)

very sad. the Yahoo article said he place bibles by each of them. And that the WWE asked authorities to send out someone to check on them after several friends got some strange text messages from Benoit

From HERE

Benoit's wife, 43, was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, ...

The son, Daniel, was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, Ballard said.

Benoit, 40, apparently killed himself several hours and as long as a day later,

Benoit had to have completely lost his mind.

^^^Sorry to say this according to a story may have gone on over several days. My own doctors say if I need any future hospitalizations or treatments for knee(s), which about once a year or two acts up --- no steroids.

Quite probably the same He'd think about the language you're bringing into this forum. Please tone it down.

What does that have to do with the topic at hand? I know its a wrestling thread but couldn't this have waited until the Benoit shock eased. Besides, they aren't really beating the **** out of each other. Its no different than action movies that have violence.

And what does over muscled have to do with it? Would Jesus have less of a problem if it was two scrawny kids beating the **** out of each other.

HBK had knee surgery today,I think. Supposed to be back late summer.

Dors anyone know any wrestlers that are Christians, besides HBK and Sting?

Thanks, that is awsome news.

From all the reports I've read, it doesn't seem to be a "roid rage" type thing.

JeffSexton -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 6:43:01 PM)

Speculation will run wild over exactly what was going through Benoit's mind. Honestly, though I have heard two possibilities that would seem to make sense to me, I honestly do not know.

CNN was reporting it from the angle of "roid rage" and said there were roids in his medicine cabinet.

He really showed bizzare behaviors, text messaging friends in between murders, leaving a Bible at the foot of the bed of both victims, and some other odd stuff.

I heard there have been 60 some deaths involving wrestlers in the last 10 yrs, and roids have been involved in almost all of them, but nothing is being addressed about it.

Did anyone else hear that?

LM1dog -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 7:10:32 PM)

I did see some report of steroids in the home. It just seems planned more than rage.

LM1dog -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 8:20:57 PM)

24wrestling.com says that Vince will apologize for the tribute show for Benoit. The WWE and USA network have recieved complaints about the show.He is also going to comment on steroids.
This is supposed to happen on ECW tonight.

buckifn -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 9:28:54 PM)

Turns out there were prior police complaints filed against Benoit for domestic abuse against his wife. So I am going with the theory this was planned.... Why oh Why oh WHY do women keep going back to men with these patterns of behavior?

I do think it is degrading to women and men who do not abuse their wives that a show was aired in honor of this guy considering his history and now his murdering his wife and child.

Signs of trouble in the Benoit marriage became apparent in May 2003, when Nancy Benoit filed for divorce and sought court protection from her husband.

In the protective order petition, she said Benoit "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home."

But three months later, the couple reconciled and the petition was dismissed.

Daniel, 7, and placed Bibles next to their bodies before hanging himself with cord from a weight machine, authorities said Tuesday.

She was found in an upstairs den at the family's 2-year-old traditional frame home, wrapped in a towel, her wrists and feet bound. Daniel, who had recently completed classes at the First Baptist Church school in Peachtree City, was in his bed.

I am not buying the old "steroids made a good man go bad" nonsense. Benoit was just another abusive bully, IMO!

Contrast that with Jeff Jarrett, who stood by his wife through her battle with cancer to the end. She leaves behind three children...

Yankee Nut -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/26/2007 11:11:09 PM)

I was completely shocked to hear about Benoit. And to hear about him killing both his wife and son and then killing himself. I just didn't think he had it in him to do this

I'm sorry. I have to object here. I've typed and retyped a response, trying to get it calmed down, but I must speak my mind. I know what the evidence says. I also know that at the time Raw went on the air, he was not a "double murderer" or a "spouse abuser". He was a man that had given 22 years of his life to a profession he loved. That's what they honored. That's all they honored. If anyone can't see the difference, I'm sorry but there is a huge difference here.

ETA: I also need to add that I do understand the need for the WWE to do what they did. It shouldn't be so, but if they had continued to honor Chris Benoit's career, it would have been perceived as supporting his actions out of the ring. I will continue to pray for his family as well as her family. This has got to be a terrible blow to them.

Rufas2000 -> RE: Professional Wrestling Thread (6/27/2007 1:57:38 AM)

I agree with armydude 100%. The WWE and Vince McMahon have acted appropriately during this situation.

Note: I'm not a McMahon fan but he usually stands by his wrestlers.
