ORIGINAL: woodwind228 Hey honey......how 'bout a back rub? Ugh! I have literally been in the kitchen all day long (canning). What a shame - the weather was gorgeous today too. OK, here's one: is a garbage disposal really that easy to replace? I've heard it was and, being the do-it-yourself kind of gal I am, I'm thinking of tackling this. So how do I do it? Is there a website or something that has a step-by-step tutorial or is it asy enough to explain without pics? It all depends. When I tried to change one, the old one was encrusted with gunk, it had to be cut off with a sawsall, but the plumber who was installing the new hot water tank at the same time.

So, do you think a single gal could power wash her house by herself? I have vinyl siding.

You could rent a pressure washer from Home Depot or some other tool rental place.

The good stuff will hold up but you still need to be careful. If it's a one story house you're better off using a extendable brush with a hose connection.

ORIGINAL: Grace-N-Mercy Hey honey, I have a question. What causes all those snaps, crackles, and pops in the house... when I don't have rice krispies?? I can understand the wind causing enough pressure for the door to pop, but for those annoying little sounds in the middle of the house when there's no wind?? Oh, and the house is about 30 years old, so I don't think it'll still be settling. Wind, thermal expansion (and contraction) minor earth movements. A house really isn't avery rigid structure. Lots of movement happens. And each little movement makes a noise. I'd guess that most of yours now are thermal. do they mostly happen as the sun heats up in the morning and after it sets at night?

Y'know, I haven't paid attention to when these noises occur... I'll start paying more attention. But I hadn't thought about thermal expansion and contraction. Makes sense, and is probably on target.

I are an engineer . You should be next to me on a flight when I'm dissecting all the noises the plane makes. Especially next to new flyers. "That's the landing gear motors winding uo the gear. That's the landing gear doors closing. That's the flap motors. That's the oops. Well I'm sure we didn't need that anyway." MWAHAHAHA. (Actually I'm too nice to do that to someoene. But it gives me such a tickle to think about it)

I just realized that I need some help. After reading that post, how am I supposed to remain calm and not analyze the noises on the plane when I fly to the GT?

Ok, not sure this belongs here but couldn't imagine where else it would go. I have a 2002 suburban. It has approx 150,000 on it and is a gas hog as you can imagine. I drive 300-400 miles a week. Yeah...add up the gas $$ Starting tomorrow a local used-car dealer is having a sale. $29 down and $99 a month (for the rest of your life, I guess), plus they will make sure you pay no more than .99 a gallon for gas for a year. I showed the ad to my father and he woke up from his nap long enough to say "it's too good to be true". I know it sounds like it, but is there any chance this is actually a good deal? If not, what's the catch? What I'd like to do is keep my sub, and buy another little car with much better gas mileage to go to school in. Thoughts? besiderself

Thoughts? besiderself There is not enough information to make a decision. The part about paying for the rest of your life sounds true. What is the interest rate? What type of cars do they have. My guess is that the cost of the gas over the 99 cents will be added to your car payments.

"it's too good to be true". ... um, it does sound too good to be true. Even if your father had been sound asleep when he said it. I agree the dealer is going to find a way to recoup that .99 cent gas somehow. And you can bet you'll be the one paying for it. Interesting marketing though.

Needless to say, that doesn't go over very well with LOTS of turbulence. LOLOLOL
