I've always wanted to ask Gerald if Rodney insists on bringing all of his Songwriter of the Year awards with him on the bus?

LOL

I have an idea for a project and as far as I know, it's never been done. How about a CD honoring the Cathedrals? I know it might be difficult for GV to do it since they are a trio instead of a quartet but I'm sure there is a way they could do it.

I just thought of a way to do it. After reading the October Singing News and learning about Gerald's thoughts about having a bass singer in the group, Gerald could do both the lead and the bass parts on the recording!

That never stopped them! Look at "Quartets".....

My impression of Rodney is that he probably wishes people wouldn't keep bringing it up! He's really a humble guy. A very respected humble guy!

I know. But I also know how Gerald likes to tease Rodney too. I just thought I would give him another opportunity to tease him by bringing it up.

I might ask Gerald that question in person when I see them on October 7. Who knows, he might even be able to work that into their act.

Perhaps that could double as "Quartets II."

That would work.

Just imagine that--combining the cream of the crop of bass singers with the best of the Cathedrals' songs. Wow!

As far as the cd idea: I think it would be an interesting cd, but I would not wish to see another full-blown Goodman cd right after the Perrys made a smash with "Remembering..."

A smash indeed...album of the year! (The Perrys' only one so far.)

Hmmm...I didn't know that. Nor can I understand it ... Maybe I should listen to that CD!

But why not just listen to the Goodmans?

Do it! But for those of us unfortunate enough to have never heard the Goodmans at all, let alone in their days with Sam and Rusty, we appreciate the opportunity to hear a group doing the songs like they did them in the old days.

I think the Cathedrals Tribute idea with more bass singers like on "Quartets" would be a monstrous success.

Wonder if he'd like some bass singer suggestions? I think on at least one song he should sing bass and let someone else, sing lead. Or he could just record the bass and add it to them singing!

OK, I can get the idea when you're talking about live music.

You left off Glenn Dustin! You would have to have Glenn on a project like that. At least, I would want him on it!

Personally, I would have an awfully hard time listening to another bass singer sing a song that I had heard George do. I can take Glenn Dustin and even Tim Duncan, as they were kind of "connected" with George. (He was so proud of SSQ!) But I would say about a Cathedrals tribute just what I did about the Goodmans ... I wouldn't want it to be "hit" songs, but pulling out stuff most folks aren't very familiar with. If it was going to be done, it would absolutely ***have*** to include a track of George on one song, the same as was done on the original Quartets album. Gerald did act like they might do another one someday.

I thought sure somebody would ask me why I thought GV ought to do a tribute album if I didn't get excited over the Perrys! Didn't their's include primarily well-known ones? How long has it been? I remember hearing a Gospel Greats album quite a few years ago with them doing "He's Coming Back," I believe it was.

Here's a new suggestion for Gerald:

Do a Cathedrals Tribute album but do all the tracks with George on the bass!! And what's more, get L5, EHSS, Danny Funderburk and MTT to each sing 1 song on it too! What do ya'll think of that?

YES!!!!!

Ya know, I think we can come up with enough ideas to keep Gerald busy till retirement. Now, I don't know about good ideas, but ...

You know, GV, L5, MTT, and Danny Funderburk have gotten together several times for Cathedrals tribute concerts. If they could do it again and bring in EHSS and record it live, you would have the biggest seller of the year on your hands! Maybe even one of the biggest sellers of all time.

I wish they would at least video one of those Cathedrals Remembered concerts. It must be a thrill for Glen to get to sing with all those guys!
