Paul,

How about "Neither Do I Condemn Thee", "Worry Who I", "What A Wonderful Day" or "Sinner Let Me Tell You"? All classic Prophets songs, would sound good with just a piano. And lest we forget, "Sinner's Plea"....

"Who I" is on our short list. What a cut by the guys back then! Preparing WORKIN' ON A BUILDING, SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER, HE SET ME FREE, LORD I'M COMING HOME and SWEETER AS THE DAYS GO BY (TPQ cut it first)...at the moment. All songs for stage...piano only! Rehearsals are a blast! And we have our 10 songs from the Cd.

"What a beautiful day"...great idea.

I kinda hear it in a medley.

One of my dad's groups used to sing "What A Beautiful Day" as part of a medley. The first song had something to do with night, then the second song was "I'll Meet You In The Morning", and finally the big finish with "What A Beautiful Day For The Lord To Come Again".

The group still stages the song, but not the medley.

Daniel...did you mean Mike Allen?

Umm...yes. I can't believe I made that mistake!

"What a beautiful day"...great idea. Maybe we could do it as a tribute to both Johnny Cook and Vestal. We knew and loved them both. It would have to be a different arragement though...at least I think so. Maybe EC could come up with a new one for the stage. I kinda hear it in a medley.
Thanks for the idea.

Well, if anyone is in a place to think of a good arrangement, leave it to the song's author! I'm sure he will come up with something good.

Given that it's originally an EC song, it might not be a bad idea to arrange the medley to leave that song as the big finish.

Paul,
The song always featured JD when Ed Hill and Bill Baize were in the Stamps, but I would suggest "If I Can Help Somebody" by Alma Androzzo as a good song to do with piano and four guys.

We will let EC put it together for sure! We will need to voice it in some way so as to not appear that we are trying to imitate Cook-Vestal. Nobody can do that...but I'll tell EC that you guys wanna hear it.

I have a couple of Stamps anthologies. Will try to find that tune.

Hey Robert! I've heard that rumor too. If it happens...should take place over the summer. Before the NQC. Probably in Nashville area. When I know more...will tell it right here.

On that subject (kinda)...let me say that The Prophets will sing at the
Sogo Fan Festival on Tuesday July 22 (opening night)...maybe one other night.

We will also perform Fri and Sat August 15-16 at Charlie Waller's
GRAND OLE GOSPEL REUNION...in Knoxville. There will be a press-release on this real soon.

This Monday, we shoot our first TV show. The program has been designed by Johnny Minick and Eddie Crook. Will feature The Prophets and a weekly guest. Will air on more than one network. Can't announce any of those details. TPQ rehearsed yesterday for 5 hours (no kidding) getting ready for the shoot. We will sing stuff from our new Cd, AND songs that we do around the piano, with EC.

Back home in LR now..for Mothers Day. Going back to Nashville Sunday evening. Thanks for praying for my safe trip.

The TV shoot for The Prophets' Show went well. Numerous pro singers and members of the gospel press were there. The producers-director seemed pleased with what they got from us. Songs included:

I CAN CALL JESUS (from Cd)
LOVE LIKE THE SUN (from Cd)
LORD I'M COMING HOME
HE SET ME FREE

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST (Daryl Williams was our guest composer. That will be a weekly feature on our show. We will have a guest writer-artist and back them up on one of their most notable songs. Daryl also told of how he wrote the tune...kinda funny)

SWEETER AS THE DAYS GO BY
HOW I WANT YOU TO KNOW (from Cd)
I'LL FOLLOW (title song from Cd)

Will eventually be available on DVD, along wih additional programs.
Thanks for your prayers. Will post more details about the event at my blog later...PJ

I just heard Mike Allen in person for the first time tonight. He's good!

It took him a couple songs to warm up to where he was hitting the lowest notes with full confidence, but once he was warmed up, he was there.

So HE was one of the three soloists on the program? Who were the others? (Or, I guess I should just wait for your write-up, huh???)

John Darien Rousey sang with Karen Peck & New River for several years.
He is the one singing with her on the Gaither Video that they show singing Four Days Late.
He also writes a lot of songs.

Amazingly musical for a true SG Bass singer. Glad you got to hear him, Daniel. Very genuine and sincere person. Mike also is a veteran. God bless him. It's a joy and a priviledge to stand on stage with him.

Mike Allen, Bill Baize, Eddie Crook, Ed Hill and I wish to express our extreme sorrow for the Steven Curtis Chapman family, in the recent, tragic, loss of their young daughter.

Steven's songs have blessed us all. Most of us in the SG world have been touched by his music, at church, at weddings...even through the recording of his music by SG groups, as noted as The Cathedrals.

Please pray for this dear man and his entire family. I assure you, The Prophets are praying now.
