LauraBohi -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (4/29/2008 9:35:40 PM)

Hi! I was excited to see I'm not the only person under 30 who LOVES southern gospel!!

I'm 29 and from Kansas. There isn't a huge selection of SG out here, so I find myself heading south frequently for concerts!

I hope you guys all have a great day!

AngelInWaiting1983 -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (4/29/2008 9:39:57 PM)

Welcome Laura!

There are more of us than you think. I'm 24/SC and I love SG and also sing in a group.

LauraBohi -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (4/29/2008 9:44:53 PM)

Hi! Thank you for the welcome!

That's great! How long have you been singing?

Yes, it does that to all of us.

MattPaasch -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/2/2008 8:39:08 AM)

I'm just glad this isn't one of the sites blocked here at work!

I love roaming around reading what everyone has to say... even if I don't always post, you can guarantee I'm still enjoying this forum!

LauraBohi -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/2/2008 10:12:42 PM)

Amen on that!! I'm still just thrilled to know there are people my age who love this music. I went to two concerts last weekend and I kid you not, I was the youngest person there. By at least 20 years.

Are any of you going to the L5 homecoming in Nashville either for Memorial or Labor day?

sgpianoman -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/2/2008 11:12:47 PM)

wow laurabohi- I hate going to those concerts where i'm the youngest there (i'm 24)...I always get a kick out of when the older folks stare because theres a younger person a concert.

I was thinking of a question i'd like to ask everyone. From reading various southern gospel forums over the years I have read alot of feedback on the subject. Going Full Time.

As a young person, if you had the opportunity to go with, or your current group, to go full time would you?? I have thought about how i would respond IF some scenario would present itself. Could you, in what stage of your life, do it? Consider your finances, education, job, status in your answer if you want to answer that is haha. Of course, the calling of God is a MAJOR factor but just say that he has opened a door.

I would say while i'm young and single; that i would most likely do it. I do have a good job, but i think it would be a great adventure to meet knew people, minister in a different format and see some more of the business side.

any thoughts??

AngelInWaiting1983 -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/2/2008 11:15:42 PM)

I'd go full time. I'd do it now. I'm at the point in my life where nothing is holding me back.

MattPaasch -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/5/2008 9:05:20 AM)

Well.... I'm married, and have two kids. But if God opened the door, and I knew he was leading me in that direction, yes! I'd rather be in his will then out of it! God did not promise us a life of ease (until heaven that is), but a life of blessings. Sometimes they come through some of the worse of circumstances.

It's like that phrase, "God won't give you more than you handle." But sometimes we have to rely on Him. And that's what I would do!

I may have to sit back and pray about for several days, really search on Gods will for my life and family. I know it would be hard... being away from family at times, finances aren't the best while with a singing group (unless your Gaither), and I'm sure it puts a strain on many other things too.

But that's my dream, I'm just waiting for God to open that door!

danielmount -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/5/2008 9:07:35 AM)

Hey, Matt, would you like to do a little Hangman?

Wow, great question. I honestly don't know. I've always dreamed of singing full-time with a powerhouse quartet like Gold City or the Kingdom Heirs or Brian Free & Assurance, but if the door actually opened it's hard to say if I would or not.

Currently (as most of you know) I'm in college, and I highly doubt I would drop out in order to sing. Now, if I could sing AND study I don't think I could say no!

Also, I don't see myself singing full-time if/when I get married. I don't think I could be away every weekend.

So I guess the answer is that I'd love to, but right now it would have to fit with college and later it would have to fit with family.

Hey right now i'd take any offer for singing/playing for a Southern Gospel group. Since I'm only 17 and home schooled, I think I could adapt to traveling pretty quick. The only set back is that my parents probably wouldn't let me. I guess I'll have to start singing locally first.

MattPaasch -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/6/2008 5:30:44 PM)

Ok everyone....

What type of group would you see yourself being a part of if God opened the door?

Mixed Group? Trio? Quartet?

Would that be Traditional SG? Progressive? Middle-of the road? Bluegrass?

And of course, what part would you want to sing?

Oh... would you like helping MC? Be the group goof? The straight man?

danielmount -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/6/2008 7:29:21 PM)

If I was part of an SG group, I'd prefer it to be a traditional SG male quartet, singing baritone or lead. Ideally, I'd like to be a lead, but only if I had the voice training to do it right.

AngelInWaiting1983 -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/6/2008 7:42:23 PM)

What type of group would you see yourself being a part of if God opened the door?

Mixed Group? Trio? Quartet? I would prefer mixed trio or quartet

Would that be Traditional SG? Progressive? Middle-of the road? Bluegrass? I'd like to do a little bit of everything

And of course, what part would you want to sing? I would like to sing Soprano or lead

Oh... would you like helping MC? Be the group goof? The straight man?A mixture of all. You have to be able to be flexible.

MattPaasch -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/9/2008 9:03:17 AM)

My turn....

What type of group would you see yourself being a part of if God opened the door?

Mixed Group? Trio? Quartet? Quartet [;)]

Would that be Traditional SG? Progressive? Middle-of the road? Bluegrass? I lean more to the traditional, but I do like some of the progressive stuff, and of course, gotta add some bluegrass! [:D]

And of course, what part would you want to sing? Bass, of course!

Oh... would you like helping MC? Be the group goof? The straight man?Anyone who has been around me for long knows I'd probably be good as the group goof, but I wouldn't mind being the MC as well!

youngartist -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/9/2008 9:47:49 AM)

What type of group would you see yourself being a part of if God opened the door?

Currently I do sing with my family and I really enjoy my role there, but if I went full-time, it'd be something like this:

Mixed Group? Trio? Quartet? Male Quartet all the way!

Would that be Traditional SG? Progressive? Middle-of the road? Bluegrass? hmmm....not too traditional, but not too progressive. In other words, if my friends were to see the group I wouldn't want them thinking I'm in an old-fashioned straight-jacket group, but I wouldn't want them leaving thinking I may as well be in a CCM or country group either. Basically, a straight-ahead, modern SG group like the Kingdom Heirs or Gold City would rock. [:D]

And of course, what part would you want to sing? I can sing baritone anytime, but I can sing bass and most lead as well. Bass would be fun, but would intimidating when on the same program as someone like Tim Riley. lol

Oh... would you like helping MC? Be the group goof? The straight man?I'd love to be the enthusiastic, humorous guy who doesn't over-exert himself "in yo face," but still has some fun. [8D]I wouldn't want primary MC duties. [:D]

SamPaasch -> RE: The Young Folks' SG Thread (5/9/2008 4:37:55 PM)

What type of group would you see yourself being a part of if God opened the door?

Mixed Group? Trio? Quartet? Quartet

Would that be Traditional SG? Progressive? Middle-of the road? Bluegrass? My favorite is the Traditional, I also like some bluegrass!

And of course, what part would you want to sing? Baritone or Lead

Oh... would you like helping MC? Be the group goof? The straight man? ???...Not sure...???
