Say, Matt, that "etymology" is interesting! (I think that's the word I'm after ... ) A lot of people would probably call me an "old fogey" because of the way I believe, and I'm only 23. My Spanish teacher was giving me some serious talk about dealing with the differences I'll have to deal with if I can make this Honduras mission trip. I could tell that, although she loves me, she thinks that I'm way too rigid. For instance, when I stated (on being asked) that, in so many words, long sleeves are part of my convictions and I would be wearing them on the trip, she wanted me to consider the attitude behind that statement. (Hope no one else is offended by my stating that! ) She was very kind, but left me with the realization - more strongly than before - that I really am a "pilgrim and stranger" here. Then she also was concerned that I don't "share" enough, and I could tell she was afraid I wouldn't blend with the group I was in ... So here I am sharing!

It doesn't offend me. :) While I wear shortsleeves, I basically always wear long pants outside the home, even in the hottest part of summer, for similar convictions.

It's going good! I learned about Contracts today and participated in an oral argument which went well. Dean of Oak Brook, Dr. Roger Magnuson of national legal fame (former state attorney general, voted Lawyer of the Year, and senior partner in the firm Dorsey & Whitney) will be speaking tonight. Great Christian and very successful. I'm pumped!

Holding to any convections that my label you conservative opposed to someone else may categorize you as an "old fogey". It think of an old fogey as someone who doesn't accept change, but I guess under that definition, I could even be called an "old fogey" under some of my convictions or beliefs in the Bible!

Daniel, Virginia (among only 3 or 4 other states) has an exception in their law that may allow for the acquisition of a 1 year LLM degree also via correspondence which would then allow me to sit for the Virginia Bar.

Neat. I think you'd said that before, and I'd forgotten it. If I could handle Virginia's climate, I'd probably move there if I still wanted to go into law. But I decided against that a year or two ago, and I'm sticking to it (for now at least).

OK, a lot of us on here are homeschooled, and plan on homeschooling our families if/when we ever have them. So I'm wondering if any of us have ideas turning over in our heads that we want to do differently from (or the same as) the way we were homeschooled. Maybe or maybe not; anyway I have one -- I think that at least as soon as we reach the high school level I'll start focusing on CLEP tests and other methods of getting college credit. So history and science, for example, will primarily consist of studying for the highest possible store on CLEP tests, where you can get 6 hrs of credit for each subject. I think that you could take care of most of your general education requirements that way. As a homeschooler, I learned about as much at home as I learn from most Gen Ed classes anyway! Then I'd look up a college that had an early admit program like Friends does here. I'd encourage my children to take the maximum possible hours of more advanced/specialized course material (especially if they had an idea what they wanted to major in). Here it only costs $35/credit hour, but it costs more like $500 once you are a regular student. I think that with planning like this you could cut down a four-year degree to not more than a couple of years, besides meeting high school requirements early. My mom encouraged me to look into CLEP tests, but I was pretty sure I wasn't going to college and wasn't interested. Then it turned out that God had different plans, and I really wish I'd listened! I could have tested out of a lot more than I did if I'd started when I was in high school.
