Try eating insoluble fiber, if you haven't been already. I find beans works well for me, and dried fruit like raisins or prunes.

Visitorinwaiting, You can buy over-the-counter creams to help with the eczema. I have a prescription cream from my doctor, but I have found that using moisturizer several times a day works almost as well. If you can figure out what is causing the reaction then you can possibly avoid it, and that would help. I haven't been able to figure out what is causing mine, though I have some ideas.

Prune juice really isn't too bad tasting and it does help.

How about mini wheats? If I read the soluble chart right that is insoluble.

Have you tried Colace(sp?) or some other type of stool softener?

I do eat shredded wheat and oatmeal. But I will bump it up from once or twice weekly to daily. Nuts is an idea.

I'll eat prunes......... but pass on the prune juice. I also like raisins, so I'll be trying some of those.

I have to be careful, though... there is a lot of fruit sugar in raisins and prunes.

Thanks, ladies.

I have found that hot flashes (flushes) can sometimes be reduced by eating right, soy & exercise and controlling my blood pressure and blood sugar levels. It doesn't eliminate them, but does help them be easier to deal with.

I remember when my kids were little, someone told me any fruit that started with P would make 'em poop.

Wonder if that still applies?

I don't know! How many fruits start with the letter P? We used to have a sesame street video that was about the alphabet and they had a whole thing on the letter P.

Peaches, plums/prunes, pears, pineapple, papaya, pluot, I'm sure there are more, but that's all I could remember.

I've not heard of a pluot. I'll have to look it up.

If you're able to, exercise may help. I have a book somewhere, but it's buried (I know roughly were) right now because I'm rearranging my bedroom (may I say, I'm shocked and suprised and really pleased how much I've done so far) but I will dig it out later.

quote:

A pluot (plü-ot) is a tradename for a fruit developed in the late 20th century by Floyd Zaiger.[1] In the United States, the fruit is known by most regulatory agencies as an interspecific plum[2]. It is a complex cross hybrid of plum and apricot, being ¾ plum and ¼ apricot in percentage. The pluot, like the aprium, is derived from the half-plum–half-apricot hybrid called the plumcot.

The fruit's exterior with smooth skin closely resembles a plum's. Pluots are noted for their sweetness (due to a very high sugar content) and for their intense flavor. They are also very, very juicy. Pluots are also rich in vitamin A.

"Pluot" is a registered trademark of Zaiger's Genetics.

I happened onto a happy happenstance.

In an effort to have a great sleep........ last night I showered, then enjoyed a cup of Sleepytime tea in bed while reading the Word.

I like my tea very hot.... so hot that you have to slurp/sip. Well, by the time I finished the tea.... I had the "urge" to go potty bits.

Yeah!!!

So, this morning I tried having hot blackberry tea with breakfast. Worked like a charm.

I think that since I cut back on coffee...... maybe my BMs were used to the hot beverage stimulus and my bowels were missing it.

I hope this keeps working. I feel like a brand new woman!

Agapetos, I promise not to take this as a means to escape exercising, though. I know I need to.

"I Happened Onto a Happy Happenstance"

That should be a title of a book. Probably a compilation of women's cures from hotflashes to things that make you go poop! kd

Aunt Flo is on her way and oddly enough she's about right on time this month instead of early.

She just likes to keep you on your toes. Just when I think I've figured out her new schedule, she changes plans on me.

Just take note of the first part of the comment I made about exercise

quote:

If you're able to, exercise may help.
It's not always easy to do. I don't do nearly as much as I used to, nor as much as I should, but I do try to do something each day ~ even if it's not exercise as such (remember that housework and gardening all counts ~ which is pretty much all I'm doing right now). I don't have a car so do a fair bit of walking and that helps too.

My thyroid is messed up again so I need to be careful what I do (walked into the town after my hosp appoint Monday and am still wiped out from it).

quote:

I think that since I cut back on coffee...... maybe my BMs were used to the hot beverage stimulus and my bowels were missing it.
I'm glad that that seemed to work... I wonder if, when you cut back on coffee, you stopped drinking so much fluids? That may have affected your system too ~ I know if I cut back on my fluids for a day or so, I start to have problems.

And now I'm going to do some kitchen exercise and empty my old freezer to put it in my new freezer

I don't believe that I've cut back on fluids. I like my water.

I am in the habit of drinking between six and eight glasses of water daily... just because I have done so for over the last twenty years.

As for exercising... the only reason I'm waiting to begin is that I'm still experiencing some musculoskeletal issues since having the flu a little over a month ago.

I can identify with that... it's frustrating sometimes when things drag on for a long time ~ we're better but we're not recovered...

AF's visit wasn't too bad this time.

I'll be starting on some new meds soon, including Lexapro which has helped me in the past with PMS grumpiness.

This is the weirdest period ever for me. I had not had a period since Christmas, then started two weeks ago. It was just spotting the first week, then slowly built up to regular (heavy) flow. This weekend was the worst ever and I am hoping it is slowing down though I still gush every time I get up from a sitting position. And I only have two of my overnight pads left!!

I have been taking Ponstel for heavy periods, but haven't been able to this time because I am on a diuretic whose info. sheet says not to take NSAIDs along with it, and Ponstel is an NSAID. If I ever doubted it helped, I doubt no more!!!

My iron levels had gone back to normal since my periods started skipping, but this will likely make them plummet again.

I will be so glad when this is OVER!!!!
