I had received after my visit a 'satisfaction survey' from Choice Hotels (Comfort Suites and some others) in it I mentioned the jack in prices. The hotel manager just called me and did mention both the NQC and folks arriving for the golf tournment. He also told me if there were several of us wanting room info, he would be willing to negotiate on the price but we would need to take 3-4 rooms minimum.

I told him I would get back with him.

Well, some don't even give you that. I doubt I'll do it but on the other hand I did like where I stayed so this at least gives me something to think about. Because I've worked with motel chains for events in the past I know that exceptions are normally made on volume deals so that's no surprise.

Sounds like we got a very good deal compared to most, we have stayed at the Super 8 on Preston Hwy the last 3 years, our rate this year was less than $45.00 a night, around $265.00 for the whole week. But they were going to raise the rate considerably for next year so don't know if we'll stay there again next year or not. That is for a double room , 2 queen beds in the room, also. And it's less than 10 minutes from Freedom Hall.

Yes, I did, and I already filled it out and returned it. I said that it would be better to have NQC in June or July. How 'bout you?

That's what I said too...we have school age children and unless we can find someone to come down to SC from VA to stay with them(which is highly unlikely...grandparents are getting up in age and have health problems) we have to pull them out of school for the week. Besides that I look for any reason to get out of here during the summer...not the heat issue but other tourists. I don't mean that to sound ugly but living for the second time in a popular tourist area...the other being near Williamsburg...traffic can be trying at it's best just to go the store!!!

I would say that it is for 2009 or later because the dates for 2008 are already set, according to their website.

For those that didn't get the survey, here's what they asked....

quote:

Have you attended the NQC within the last five years. (yes or no)
Have you attended the NQC within the last 10 years. (yes or no)
If the NQC were to move to lat June would you be (more likely or less likely) to attend:
If the NQC were to move to mid July, would you be (more likely or less likely) to attend:
What would your preference be in terms of the time of year to attend NQC, (late June, mid July, or its current dates which is the week following Labor Day)

They specifically asked us NOT to answer anything except one of their answers. I wish they'd send out a poll addressing location AND the events we'd like to see (or not see)!!! I, for one, would like to see only Southern Gospel people involved in the Pianorama!

I've heard that from quite a few people.

Foster's been back and forth with Fairfield about this. They finally agreed to honor a MUCH lower price than what their website came up with. [I'm thinking it's $89 vs. $329 (or something like that.)] That's still about $10/night more than what we paid this year, and about $30 less than if we went through the NQC site to get the SAME room!

She found rooms closer and cheaper for about $59. We've got those on hold, but she went ahead and held on to the Fairfield offer, for now, too. The Fairfield is a really nice place, and we've been very pleased there for the last few years. The 'cheaper' Jameson Inn appears to be equally as nice, but we really have no history there.

Should the Jameson not quite as 'clean' as the Fairfield, we could easily go to the Dollar General & pick up a few cleaning supplies for a LOT less than the difference we'd pay. And, I'd KNOW it would be clean -- at least while we're there. Trust me, I'm not wanting to scrub floors or anything, but, hey -- spinkle a little Comet here -- and squirt a little 409 there-- and I'll be good to go!!

I finally made reservations at the Comfort Inn in Brooks, Ky, I stayed there several years ago and it's about 15 minutes out and was pretty clean. It's only $63 per night so I'll take what I save there and use that to buy CDs.

Check with them again about four weeks before the event. Prices tend to go up initially, especially as other hotels are getting booked, then those "less desirable" locations will come back down as the date approaches.

Last year, I reserved a room about 11 months in advance for $57. Around April, I made a separate reservation for a second room, and the rate was $87. I wanted to simply update my first reservation, but they were going to hike the price of the first room up to $87 as well.

About three weeks before, I checked again and it was only $53 per room.

At that point, I changed my first reservation to two rooms which caused the price to update to $53 per room, and I canceled the $87 room. :o)

I don't think I'd want to see Dino taking up most of the time, so I certainly understand why people are complaining. If he's really that much of a draw, give him a full showcase of his own and then limit him to one solo number at Pianorama.

One solo wouldn't be too bad. I'd rather not see him at all, but one solo (which is as much as anyone else gets) would be an acceptable compromise in my mind.

Sorry, but I don't think he deserves a solo when we have so many other extremely talented SG pianists that should be honored! Let Dino have a showcase and all those that want glitz, glamour and showmanship can go there!

I don't think so. I think he was teasing you.

And however he feels about it, I agree with you 100%.
