Yes, Donna, it's been warm, not too hot though. I drink lots. I've been sick for over a month though, flu, then chest cold, now a sinus mess, Chase has the same thing I have now.

I think I'm ok with being done. I had planned to wean in time for my trip to Boston in July, so I was preparing to be done soon. It's just so much easier in the middle of the night...not having to get a bottle and heat it up etc.
But last night, all the times he was up, I offered the breast and all he did was suck for two seconds and go to sleep, so I don't know if he just wanted to suck, or if it just wasn't worth staying awake for.

Sarah, yes he just started crawling last week, and the last two nights, he's been pulling up and standing. I did notice that yesterday he barely ate anything, he only ate about 6 oz all day, and only had breakfast and supper for solids, then didn't have a bottle or breast before bed.

I will keep trying and see if he keeps biting/playing and if we're done, I'll just have to make sure I have a bottle in the fridge before we go to bed at night.

I might try pumping later today just to see what happens. But going to lay down right now since Chase is sleeping and we were up all night.

Thanks girls

he could be doing like some of my kids have done.....if they are chunking out to grow then that's what their body focuses on....they don't do anything new at that time. If they are doing new things then they aren't as interested in eating or chunking to grow. Kind of like an either or thing....either their body is focusing on the physical growth, or it is focusing on the physical development of a new thing. Plus with you having been sick for so long it could simply be your body just being ready to end. You might find though that he is changing his night time routine....physical developments in babies usually affects their sleep patterns and the way they eat before or during those regular sleep times.

I pumped last night and only got 3 oz. Normally I can get 6-8 oz.

I'm ok with being done. (as long as I don't run out of formula again like I did last night!)

Yolanda, have you been doing the protein before bed with Chase? When we started doing that with Jimmy, he would wake up and nurse for a few seconds and then go back to sleep like you described. I guess teeth, gas or Robert snoring woke him up and he just wanted help going back to sleep and wasn't hungry.

I am planning to order a few Bravado nursing bras soon. Pre-pregnancy I was a 34 A or small B, depending on the bra. Now, at almost 34 weeks, I am wearing a 36 C. I was thinking of getting 2 original nursing bras (one small plus and one small double plus) and 1 nursing bra tank (36 B/C.) Do you think those are the sizes I need?

Also, has anyone ever worn an Aimee nursing gown? What do you think of them?

Thanks!!

I don't much care for nursing gowns honestly. I just wear a tee shirt to bed and hike it up...but then I'm lazy and barely bother to wake up enough. Just enough to latch him on then go back to sleep
Now that he's older..I don't even have to wake up. Seriously..I've woken up a few times, to find him nursing. LOL

I usually wear gowns or long (knee length) t-shirts to bed any way.

oh, then a nursing gown would be perfect for you I think!
I used to have a nursing gown, and it was pretty easy to use, it just wasn't right for me personally

today I was cleaning out all the old messages from my email, and I ran across something I thought you ladies would enjoy and laugh at...and it has to do with bfing, so I am putting it in here.....anyway here it is.....

Advantages Of Mother's Milk:
Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term exam.
The last question was, "Name seven advantages of Mother's Milk," worth 70 points or none at all.
One student , in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages.
He wrote:
1.) It is perfect formula for the child.
2.) It provides immunity against several diseases.
3.) It is always the right temperature.
4.) It is inexpensive.
5.) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa.
6.) It is always available as needed.

And then, the student was stuck. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell indicating the end of the test rang, he wrote...

7.) It comes in cute containers.

He got an A

Sarah - Loved it!!!! I laughed! I am actually going to cut/paste it into an email to share with a few friends. :)

I have a few "is this normal" questions and one rant.

1. My breasts really don't leak even if I haven't fed in six hours (night sleeping). Is that normal?

2. My breasts don't 'feel' full and I wonder if my son is getting enough food. I know milk is coming out because I hand compress to make sure and I hear him gulping, but it's slow and not 'persistant'. Could my milk be drying out? He seems content after he's eating so I am assuming he must be?

~~~
I found glamormom tanks at motherhood maternity in lubbock and I LOVE them. They are only 21.98. I called to buy more/have them shipped from the warehouse and motherhood tells me they don't take credit cards over the phone! I can't buy them at that price/quality on their website because they are glamourmom tanks and not motherhood tanks (but they sell them.) This makes my nursing so much easier in public/home/at night and I'm mad. I'm not going to lubbock for quite some time!
yes...for some women that is normal
don't go by feel of your breast, or by leaking, or by any number of other things...go by two simple things...one is your son swallowing and happy when he is done eating...and two is he having enough wet diapers in a days time. If both of those are true then everything is fine.
As far as your being able to express it, God didn't make your hand or a pump to get it out, he made your baby's mouth to do that...and some women's breasts just simply don't like any other method to get it out.
Oh, I know! I just hand expressed to see if milk WAS coming out. I stopped once it started to come out.
Sarah:
Check, Check on the two things to look at. Thanks for letting me know! My milk must be good because he's content once he's done eating and he DEFINITELY has lots of diapers.
LOL...well, double check is good then!!! My breasts are like that...I may leak a little when the milk comes in, but by a few weeks that is over with....and every once in a while I may leak a little, but not very much at all. In fact I haven't bought breast pads since baby #1...haven't needed them for the others. So it could simply be your blessing in disguise!!!
Cool!
Jason calls Jadon a milk tyrant. LOL. He lets you know when he wants to eat and will only be appeased if/when he's eating.
Did I mention how much I love swings? LOL. He's SLEEPING which means i get some 'me' time and I can finish cleaning once i get off of here.
So, what do I do about nipple preference?
I've tried...
nipple shield
faking her out with the bottle (feeding her, then quickly exchanging bottle for my breast)
dripping milk on me
getting flow started and giving her a taste
She's wise to it and will NOT nurse. She starts crying when I start undoing my bra!
I'm running out of ideas. I know she can nurse...she's just choosing not to. And so the pumping and suplimenting goes on...
I did not leak with my first two babies, but this one I leak a lot.
Does anyone else drink Mother's Milk tea; and if so what do you think of it? I'm not sure if it really has any effect on my supply, but I do like the taste of it.
((((((((Tammy)))))))) My oldest decided a bottle was easier after 2 months in daycare and only nursing when I was with him. He totally refused nursing at 4 months old, so I know it's frustrating. I have no idea what to do, other than continue to pump what you can and know that you did your best. I truly admire you continuing this far, with the obstacles you have had.
If this were me...and I knew that she was capable of nursing, and I still wanted to continue to do it...
1. I'd continue pumping to keep up my supply.
2. I'd not give her any bottles at all. I'd make her nurse (every 2-3 hours).
It will be hard if you choose to do this...especially since she knows there's the 'easy' bottle out there. She's gonna pitch a fit about this for probably a day or two, maybe three (depending upon how fiesty she is ). But she will go to the breast fully if you don't offer her any other options. She'll not starve herself. It's more about you trying to stay strong and not give into the bottle, if your goal is to have her totally on the breast.
Blessings,
Kim
I had to do what Kim suggested with Timmy. There was definitely some crying involved, and he did get pretty hungry, but we made it through it. I never starved him or anything, but yeah he did have to cry quite a bit before he would latch on.
Kim, my supply is only about half of what she is requiring. Or at least I'm only able to pump about half as much as she is eating. Therefore, would it be safe (not giving her a bottle)? Oh, and she's PLENTY fiesty! LOL
So even if she is crying and refuses to eat, I just don't give her the bottle? Do I persist while she is pitching a fit? Or do I let her calm down and then try to give her the breast...continuing to do this until she eats from the breast? She won't even allow my breast in her mouth.
I think I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm almost positive hubby would be in agreement. The difficulty comes if/when relatives stop by. I know of two who stop by regularly that would accuse me of starving her if I didn't give her a bottle in their presence. I know, I know...get a backbone, Tammy.
Maybe it would help to purposely have no one over and go nowhere for a week or so. The more she nurses, the more milk you will have (and yes, it is already likely more than you are pumping).
more then likely you can't go by what you are able to pump...not that many women can actually accurately go by that. God made your breast to give milk to that mouth, not a pump...so it will get out more then a plastic pump ever will. Plus like Donna said, the more she nurses the more your body will kick in and produce more milk.
quote:
So even if she is crying and refuses to eat, I just don't give her the bottle? Do I persist while she is pitching a fit? Or do I let her calm down and then try to give her the breast...continuing to do this until she eats from the breast? She won't even allow my breast in her mouth.
if you really want to take this route then you need to be mentally prepared to ride it out. She won't let herself starve...she will eventually give in....and when she does you need to be prepared to nurse her. It is in her though to fight you with everything she can...esp since she knows there is the easier bottle....but a few days of training her to bf isn't going to starve her. If she is hungry she will figure out that she can nurse. I suggest you really get prayed up for it though...you both get prayed up....I personally would try for two or three days when hubby is going to be home and when you can both devote to NOTHING else...no church, no grocery store runs, no work, no anything except lounging around the probably messy house and focusing on nothing but bf training. As far as others that just stop by, I would put a note on the door saying you are unavailable....if it's someone who wouldn't call that is...which is rude anyway IMO. If they would call first then don't answer the phone. If they are persistent in coming in then let hubby be the brute that bucks up and kicks them off the property if that's what it takes for you to be mentally and emotionally where you need to be during this time. It is not your fault if they get offended...it's your baby and your decision, not theirs. As my mom says...everyone has an opinion just like everyone has a nose, doesn't mean they need to blow it all the time. They may be mad, but you have the right to not allow them to treat you like that.
So, during those difficult days, do I continue to pump when she's not nursing? Do I try to force my breast into her mouth or just offer it? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm kind of clueless.
Thanks Sarah for the reminder that this is OUR decision, not anyone else's. I talked to hubby last night and we'll discuss it more later. He will have to be 100% agreeable for me to do this. It's not likely that he can be home for 2 or 3 days with me while I do this but I do plan to start on a Thursday because he's home more on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
