ARG... After a perfect day today--40' and no wind--tomorrow it's supposed to be 20' with 20+mph winds. And I'm racing!!! Just a little 5K, but I'll be racing my 15yo son. The stinker has beat me the two times we've raced. My goal is to do a sub-24min. And to beat my son! Not sure if either are do-able, considering the weather...

Wow, good luck in your race. That's a fast time, my goal is just to get up to 45 min to an hour at 10 min pace. We got a lot of snow, I was going to run outside but I'll guess I'll join everyone at the gym.

Oh, I forgot to report back!!! My race went very well. Because the weather was so bad (COLD and windy), I decided to just do my best and not worry about breaking my Personal Record. The gun went off, and we started. I did get a good start. Traffic thinned out right away, so very little weaving and passing. I decided to just run as I felt and not worry about mile times. I felt like I was running strong, but no clue just how well. I continued passing people all the way to the finish. In the last half mile I was tiring, but there was a woman just ahead of me. So I pushed it just a bit and passed her. At the finish, I saw the clock--23:xx. WOW!!! I looked at my watch and saw 23:27. A PR!!! At the end of the chute, I was asked my age. I placed 3rd in my age group! And the last woman I passed finished 4th in our AG. I got her by one second. That was close!!!

I started running a year ago, although I confess I haven't been as consistent lately as I should as the weather has been pretty chilly. I live in the mountains, so running is quite the work out. I enjoy it, it always makes me feel refreshed and energized.

(Well, I'm still doing the run/walk thing, but it's mostly running.) I'm pretty proud of myself, even though I'm still pretty slow!

Sorry to hear about that, I did about 35-40 min run last night (treadmill) with a couple minutes of walk breaks.. but the 30 min run was continous...hope to run outside this weekend since it will be warm enough to not be bundled up and freezing

I've kept my training schedule all week even with the holiday. Next week will be a bit tricky as we are taking DD1 to college but our hotel has a gym with a treadmill so hopefully I can keep to the schedule. One of those days is my scheduled rest day.

I was supposed to run yesterday, but I didn't because we're having a wind problem. 30 mph sustained with gusts up to 45. By Tuesday, we're expected to have gusts up to 70. I'm going to attempt to run in the morning tomorrow, when it's hopefully quieter, otherwise it will have to be the treadmill. Did I tell you guys I got a Polar heart monitor for Christmas?

I don't think so, which one? I bought the Polar F11 and I love it, comparing your weekly calories is fun.

Okay. It's been almost 2 weeks since I last went running. I am almost fully recovered from my cold, not quite, but I think I want to go run. Now I just have to get the motivation to do it. I'm afraid it's going to be hard to get back into it and I know I'll probably be sore after. I have been keeping up with the strength training so hopefully it won't be too bad. How does everyone else handle set-backs to their running routine?

I recently bought three more shirts to run in because I just can't keep wearing the same ones...and I can't do laundry as often as I need to. Which brings me to this question that was also posed on Runner's World recently: what do you use to wash your technical clothing? I've been using a dye- and perfume-free detergent, adding baking soda to the water to be sure and get all the smells out, no fabric softener. A lot of people on the forums over there use baking soda, but one woman mentioned vinegar. I wouldn't be opposed to trying some of the "sports" detergent, but it's expensive and would have to be ordered online. And back to the heart rate monitor...I got the Polar F4. My husband wasn't sure I would like it and I wasn't either, but I really dig it now.

You know the underarmour stuff does smell, at least my running jacket does. It smelt funny when i got it and I am going to wash it, funny thing is it really must bother my cat because she hides when I put it on. I have the arm and hammer detergent with the baking soda in it. Works good and isn't that expensive.

What's fun is that it gives you reminders to workout if you haven't in a while. I looked down at my watch one Sunday morning during church and "MOVE YOUR BODY" was scrolling acrossing the screen. I thought I had lost my marbles.
