One of these days, I'd like to get a treadmill. That requires money though! I do need to get my bike tires fixed though (I have the new tubes so it's just a matter of doing it) so I can start biking. I do need to mix stuff up and now that the weather is getting warmer, it will be fun to do different things...

Wow, I went running yesterday and only ran 1.8 miles (yes, I have my route all mapped out so I know exact numbers.LOL). From the very start I was dragging, my leg muscles had the lactic acid build-up very fast. The only thing I can think of is it was very warm yesterday, it hit 82 for a high and I ran in the late afternoon. I didn't think it'd be so bad, it's spring, but it was still hot (without that dreaded humidity thank goodness!). I don't think I was used to running in the heat at all and that's what sapped my energy.

I will be heading to the gym, the wind and rain is terrible! It is going from 40 to 70 every few days. I am still considering getting the bike, I have to find a store to get fitted because my legs are so short. They had some schwinn bikes at costco but they might be gone already.

I only ran once in the humidity, its tough and dangerous for some people.. to bad we can't get the perfect weather.

I hate humid heat. I'm glad I live in the desert. It gets really hot here (we can get 100+ degree weather in the summer although a typical day is in the mid 90's), but at least it's dry. It's miserable enough as it is...

I took yesterday off, but plan on running this morning. It's supposed to finally start warming up around here (it has been a rather cold spring) so I don't want to wait too late...

Back from my run. It was really hard, but I am proud of myself because I ran the entire 3 miles. First time since before I was sick... Of course, I was about to pass out at the end....

And it's certainly going to be warmer today. When I left my house for the run, it was 49F. Less than 30 minutes later, when I finished my run, it was 54F...

On Saturday afternoon, I went for my first run since October. I was sitting on the love seat at my f-i-l's place, dozing around while we were watching the NCIS Marathon on USA Network, when I just decided to get up off my ample duff and do something. I put on my sweats and my running shoes and headed out the door. It was a lovely spring afternoon; temps in the 50's, sunny, but a bit breezy. I went down two back streets until I hit the main highway, then stayed on the sidewalk until I reached our church. I grabbed a drink of cold water, sat for about 5 minutes, then headed for the house. It was a struggle to finish the route, but I did it. I haven't done my GPS survey on the route yet, but I'm guessing that I put in 3 miles. I'll also have to admit that it was a run/walk mixture, but at least I was doing something. I knew that our Couch 2 5K group is starting up again this Tuesday and I wanted to at least be partially ready for it, but I think that I overdid it a little bit. I'm stiff and sore, but not too much. I'll be OK by tomorrow evening.

BTW, Kristin, thanks for telling us about putting "Sing, Sing, Sing" in your mp3 player. I hadn't even thought about hitting the big band stuff for some running music. When I get the chance to hit up Rhapsody again, I'll add some of those classic tunes. They can definitely get your body motivated to move, can't they!

<sigh> I'm cleared to run May 1. I was faithfully going to the gym until 10 days ago when I got a sinus infection. I'm having a lot of trouble getting rid of it. I've already been to the doctor and been through a round of antibiotics. I'm thinking about calling and seeing if I need more medication. I don't know.

Anyway, in the meanwhile, I ordered The Stick and I've been using it on my jacked up muscles. I'll let you know how it works.

(((stellaluna))) It must be so frustrating - but at least there is an end in sight. Just keep your eyes on that!

I ran 2 miles this morning. I had the most horrid time getting out of bed this morning... The runs are starting to feel a little better though. I'm not where I was before being sick, but it is coming back!

Thanks--it is frustrating and I've gained weight.

I did make it to the gym tonight to walk on the treadmill, do the elliptical and weights. I feel pretty good. I've been using my neti pot since Saturday and I think it's helped. I did call the doctor and he says he doesn't want to put me on antibiotics again. He wants to try OTC stuff first. So I'm glad I started the nasal rinsing two days ago. It gives me a head start.

Our first group workout was Tuesday evening, and BOY! did I goof up royally. Since I had done that (ill-advised) 3 miles on Saturday and survived, I didn't think I'd have any problems, despite being a little stiff. WRONG-O!!!! We're using a slightly modified Couch 2 5K program, which called for me to walk briskly for 5 minutes to warm-up, then alternate running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds until a total of 20 minutes was reached. But not "the brain-child!" No-o-o-o!! I ran for 3 minutes, then walked for 90 seconds, then repeated that until I'd gone a total of 21 minutes. By the time I was through, I had this pain in my right butt cheek (very near the ball of my hip) which was driving me batty!! In fact, it's still sore today. I'm going to try and follow the plan this evening, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do. Then again, maybe it will work itself out while I'm running - I hope.

I ran 30 minutes yesterday in shorts and a tshirt. Yeay I hate cold weather. Windy though almost lost my hat.

Duane, you'll get there just take it easy. I run slow but I usually get my time in.. not starting at full speed and dying in a few minutes like most people at the gym.

It's pretty hot today, in the 80s, so I'm debating whether to run or not. I went Wed, it was a very nice day on Wed.

It depends on the humidity. It's almost 75 here but I might run. It's not humid yet.

I just finished my run. It was a little breezy and I discovered that the 3rd set of ipod ear pieces I just bought don't work well either... I'm not saying I want Dumbo ears, but sometimes, I wish they were just a wee bit bigger... I just can't seem to keep anything in or on my ears. I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and spend more money to get the special ones that will stay on... I think I've spent that much anyone on ones that won't stay on...

I did have an interesting run though. I was running down one of the local running/bike paths when I saw up ahead was a large van & trailer. A bunch of folks were milling around the back looking like they were going to be doing some trail work. When I came closer, I realized it was one of the sheriff's "work crews". Talk about a wee bit awkward. I didn't want to turn around, so I figured it there was a problem, the deputy there would tell me to turn around. He didn't, so I just weaved my way through the crew and hoped no one tried anything! I figured, most of the crews around here are DUI crews and such, so it should be ok!

Yah, you're right, but last Friday when I went running I was so unused to the hotter weather (although it wasn't humid since it's still technically spring) that I could only run half of my usual route. I am still debating...hehe. I may just run on the treadmill.

phosadaud,

Your story of the cops in the way of your run reminds me of mine. A couple times on my run (maybe twice) I have rounded a corner and almost ran into a cop car sitting on the actual sidewalk. There are hedges that line the sidewalk and corner so you can't see anything around before you come upon it. I guess it must be a good speedtrap hiding spot because I've seen 'em there a few times. I wanted to start shaking my fist at the cop, and was mentally grumbling about it.LOL. I didn't of course, say anything cuz it would have been a waste of breathe and I didn't want to stop and plus, ack he is doing a good thing. Trying to catch those speeders around here which annoy me too.

Too funny! That would be a little disconcerting though - cop car or no! You don't expect a car parked on a sidewalk!

It was a little weird, because there was literally no way around them - it was either run through the middle or turn around. I didn't want to turn around.

It was. It startled me, and I don't like to be startled on my run! That brings me to another good story. Once, last summer I was running along minding my own business, listening to my tunes. You know, an average run when I look down for a moment and see a huge black snake slithering across the sidewalk. I thought my heart skipped a beat and jumped I was so startled. I almost stepped on it, so I had to run around it. It kept going on its merry way, oblivious to the fright it caused me.

Oh, and it must have felt awkward running through a group that big. I know I would, I feel like all eyes are on me. Yikes!

I think I would have done a running leap if I saw a snake like that! I don't have any particular fear of snakes, but I don't like them startling me!

And it was awkward. I just tried to tell myself they probably felt more awkward than I did knowing that I knew why they were doing what they were doing...

The only real fright I've had was running along a sidewalk with a tall wood privacy fence next to me. I didn't know it, but there was a large dog on the other side of that fence. When I jogged by and was probably only a few feet from the unseen dog, he started barking his head off... Scared me half to death!

I'm only afraid of snakes if they look like they are going to start coming at me. Luckily there aren't a lot of snakes here. Oh in the desert (like arizona) they scare me because you can hear them rattling but you usually don't see them.

No running today. Got a mountain bike so I will play around with it this weekend. Got to get used to it. I feel like a klutz. Beautiful Day today though, tomorrow I am not sure since the weather reports are still wrong.

The trail that I run on sometimes will have a snake sitting on it. I just run past/over/around it, but it does startle me... HOWEVER, sometimes there will be a deer on the trail, standing right on the trail, and I am very scared of them!! LOL My husband loooooves to hear me say that! But I have seen one too many of those "good deer gone bad" stories! You know, where they are in their mating season, or have little ones around and decide they don't like you so they attack you... So I am scared of them and can't run past them... Once I had to turn around and go the other way (wimp of the earth)... If I see one in the woods I am scared for the rest of my run!!!

2.5 miles today. I was tempted to make it 3 miles, but then I thought about all the yard work I planned for today and decided 2.5 miles was fine! If I get around to fixing my bike tires today, I think I'll take my first bike ride in ages tomorrow. We'll see if I get them fixed though... My to-do list for today is pretty long and I haven't gotten very far on it!

I did 45 minutes but some of it was walking. My feet are still getting used to being back outside.

It is real warm today (yeay) in mid 70s.. however I ran to the grocery store real quick and all the people were wearing their winter clothes.. sheesh people!

I haven't ridden a bike in years so you'll be better off than me! This bike is a little heavier than I thought but I can carry it up the stairs. If I lived on the third floor I'd have a problem. Or I can just leave it out for two years like my neighbors did and have them rust because all the snow dripped on it and got it wet . The dumpster is only a few steps away.

Well, when I bought my house, my tires were flat and I have never gotten around to fixing them, yet... I bought my house a little over 2 years ago...
