I don't love running when it's -40 C, and windy (which is 6 months of the year here). I hate going out when it's pouring out, and windy and cold. Same for +40 C and high humidity.

But I do them at times anyway....and feeling silly for doing them.

The coldest I've run in was 6F/-14C...

I draw the line at -30 C and +25 C. Beyond that and it would bone chilling cold or uncomfortably hot. But I see a lot of people outside running when it's -48C, where as I don't see people running when it's above 30 C. Runners are a weird bunch, lol.

Around here, you'd hardly ever run in the summer if you waited for it to get below 30C... [&:]It's one reason I run very early in the morning... [:D]

So 30C is equal to 86F. Yeah, it's hotter than that here most of the summer. It's been that hot already and May just began. [8|] I run in the evenings, though, and count on my swiftness to provide natural air conditioning. [:D] (If you've been paying attention to my pace time, you must be laughing right now.)

Last winter I was in the "more miles than degrees" club most weekends. I had a blast!!! Dress for it and it's not bad. Only problem is cars are not expecting to see runners.

This morning I got to run in the rain. 60* and a nice steady rain. It was perfect!!! Little over 4.5m, which is the longest since my stress fracture in March.

I ran 2 miles this morning and got a pretty decent time so I think I'm finally started to get my "groove" back after being sick forever ago... [8D]Tomorrow, I will do a light run since the 5K run is on Saturday. I don't think there will be many folks there and it will be more of a run than a race, but....

I've been lurking at Crosswalk for ages, but I never really noticed the Health and Fitness forum and yeah! there's a running thread. I just started really working out and eating better in January, and I've gotten addicted to fitness. I started running in February - meaning walking/running. I walked/ran a 3K in March and hope to do a 5K soon, but I haven't gotten out there much. I'm only averaging about once a week, so I'm not making much progress. I also work out to DVD's (walking and Tae Bo). I think it's because it's just way too hot now. I'm in Florida, and we're already getting into the 90s (Fahrenheit). So if I'm going to get anywhere, I need to get up early. I look forward to doing this with you all. I've read some of the other posts and it's encouraging to see others doing the same thing.

I ran 2 "actual miles" according to the GPS yesterday.. tired.. LOL remember my Nike pedometer thing was way off.

I got honked at too.

I was glad they weren't telling me to run faster, everybody was passing me. LOL

I am going to attempt 2 miles tomorrow. I don't see how I am going to following this 15k training plan.. it may have to wait.

Today was the 5K fun run to support one of our church ministries. Not too many folks showed up, but it was a good run - although the distance ended up being more like 2.5 miles. Which was fine. I was tired! [:D]

Welcome casalys! Are you able to run more often each week? You may find the running gets easier if you can run more frequently (at least 3 times per week). Otherwise, it's almost like starting over each run.

Someone tell me what this is:

Yesterday morning I was still in bed, having just woken up, and I moved my left leg and it felt like someone stabbed me in the calf muscle. The pain was so sudden I was completely immobilized and I actually cried a little bit. It eventually relaxed, but it was sore all day yesterday and it was really sore this morning when I got up. It's the entire calf muscle--knee to halfway down my leg. My husband says those kinds of cramps happen when you're dehydrated, but I drink enough water for two or three people. What in the world???

And welcome casalys. And phosadaud--did you get a time? [8D]

Stellaluna - That sounds a lot like a muscle spasm - very painful. I sometimes get them in my neck. It can be related do dehydration, but it can be all kinds of things even just tweaking something just the right way.

I usually get dehydration cramps in my feet... They go away quickly but OUCH! I'm surprised I haven't had one today because I did NOT drink enough yesterday... [:o]

And I forgot to check my time but it was somewhere around 22 minutes. I don't think I'll be doing a 5K that fast anytime in the near future (although my uncle does...)...

I went for a short (2.2 miles) bike ride this morning. I didn't realize how hard it is to ride into the wind up a hill... [8D][&:] It doesn't help when you are already stiff and sore from overdoing it in the yard/garden the day before...

I couldn't get up a small hill, I couldn't down shift and pedal faster at the same time.. glad nobody saw me as they were driving by..

It looks like it will rain so I'll have to go the gym.

Once upon a time...I decided to go for a long ride through town and I chose a route I had never taken before. I didn't remember that there was an overpass on said route, but as I approached I thought, "No biggie, I'll just downshift." Yeah, right. I didn't realize how high and steep the overpass was until I was about a third of the way up. I simply couldn't pedal myself over. I had to get off and walk and I'm lucky there was no traffic because I just about ended up going down backwards because I got so tired out and couldn't get off my bike fast enough!

I'm drinking water!!! And I'm glad I bought The Stick, so I can use that on my calf. I guess I won't be running this morning, because I can barely walk on it. Maybe it will work itself out by this afternoon. (I cannot imagine having this pain in my foot!)

Well, I set my alarm to get up earlier than usual, but just kept hitting snooze. I usually get up about 5:30 or 6:00, so I set it for 5:00. I need to go to bed earlier too. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the welcome!

After my day off yesterday (I needed a weekend to recover from my weekend [8D]), I was able to crawl out of bed this morning and do a 3 mile run. It actually felt good for the first time in quite a while. I hope that means I'm finally getting back into my groove.

As usual, swim first thing this morning, followed by a run. Still recovering from the ride I did with ds1 over the weekend (210m in 2 days), so legs were feeling a bit heavy. Decided to give it what I had, however little that was. Very surprised at my numbers--3.7m, 31:52, 8:37pace. Oh, and I got to run in the rain! You couldn't ask for a better run!

I wasn't able to do my third run of the week on Saturday, due to the fact that I was my Mom's date to her 60th high school reunion. And the weather was glorious! On Sunday, it was exactly the opposite. All of those storms that had hit the Midwest on Saturday got WV - bad! There were no tornados, but the wind and rain were horrendous. Finally, we got a break and that's when Mary and I took my Mom out or her Mother's Day lunch. After taking her home and crashing for about an hour, I decided to go for my run. The sun was shining when I began changing my clothes, but by the time I was on my way to the track - the clouds were back. I got inside the gates and started my warm-up walk, and that's when the mist returned. I took my first 3 minute run and it started sprinkling lightly, got slightly heavier as I took my 90 second walk, and harder still as I did my 5 minute run. I was getting fairly wet and it was a cold rain, so I just kept going at the end of the 5 minutes . . . straight for my car. Rastus!

Yesterday, it was very nice temperature wise, and ourgroup met for it's weekly workout. I got there early and started right off instead of waiting, since my f-i-l was at physical therapy and I didn't want to keep him waiting after he got through. The schedule has changed from an emphasis on minutes to mile fractions. I had a 5 minute warm-up walk, which I changed to 1/2 mile, then it was run 1/2, walk 1/4, run 1/2, walk 1/4, and run 1/2, then walk 5 minutes to cool down. This was a fairly hard one psychologically for me, although the physical wasn't exactly a piece of cake, but I just kept thinking about putting 1 foot down at a time and always moving forward. That made the difference for me, as I came through with flying colors. Tomorrow's workout is even tougher, as it calls for a 3/4 mile run, 1/2 mile walk, and another 3/4 mile run. It's ramping up, folks, and I'm feeling a mixture of excitement and trepidation - just like last year. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

Well, the plan was to run 3 miles this morning, but by just over 2 miles, I started to feel queezy and gross (I have a super sensitive stomach and I really hate that...) so I stopped at 2.25 miles. Maybe tomorrow... [&:]
