in the 70s, kinda cool but I ran my 2 miles on the bike path. Got passed by a lot of bikers, but I think a couple them were going in a loop. I'm going to try to go the park this weekend and see how busy they are. I looked on the internet at the bike path/trails but i want to see how difficult they are before and avoid the "expert trails". LOL

I didn't do a long run last Sunday, but I managed to do my daily 4 mile run everyday, and 5 today. I'm actually running instead of just jogging I think my knee is almost 90% healed. I still feel a bit of pain when I don't watch how my right foot is landing. But I'm getting a bit faster. I'll take a break tomorrow and do a long run on Sunday...maybe an 11 miler. I hope I don't get lazy!

I did my first 10 miler today! I did it on a treadmill as I wasn't too sure if I was even going to do it, so I stuck to the gym. I'm so happy. I haven't done that since Aug last year. I did it very slow, almost 11.5 min/mile. And I think my knees are both kinda feeling yucky. Gotta ice them. Nevertheless, I'm so happy to be able to run again. Wooooo hoooo. I feel like I'm on top of the world.

Well, it's official. I'm one of two things: either I'm crazy . . . or I'm a runner. Thursday was a bit cloudy around here, but the temps weren't too bad. I had hoped to get my workout in before any type of precipitation began, but I wasn't so fortunate. On the way to my f-i-l's therapy appointment, the sprinkling started; just a few drops, but I could tell that more was on the way. It was a light drizzle when I let Mary and her dad out, and a steady rain by the time I got to the track. It actually made me wait for several minutes in my car, debating over whether or not to go back and hit the treadmill or chance it there. I opted for the track. I got down to the track and walked my one warm-up lap, and it started easing off, so I got busy with the running. After 3/4 of a mile, I started my 2-lap walk, and that's when the rain began to get a little harder. I made up my mind, though, that I wasn't going to quit just because of the rain. I finished the other 3/4 mile jog, then kept right on going to the car. I looked at my cap, which started out light blue - now it was dark blue! My shirt was soaked, and so were my shorts and socks! Fortunately, I had thought to bring an extra shirt so I'd have at least one article of dry clothing. I dried off in the car as best I could and took off my socks to let my feet dry out, but I still felt like a drowned rat! I laughed at myself all the way back to the therapy center; in fact, I laughed about it all weekend. Saturday was much nicer weather; cooler temps with a slight breeze, but I felt really good as I went for my first complete two-mile run of the season. It was tough, but I got through it with only a minor detour into the woods, iykwim. I was very tired, but very fulfilled nonetheless! This week's schedule is: (Tues.) Jog 1/2 mile, walk 1/4 mile, jog 3/4 mile, walk 1/4 mile, then jog 1/2 mile and walk-out for 5 minutes. (Thurs.) Jog 1 mile, walk 1/4 mile, then jog 1 mile and walk-out for 5 minutes. (Sat.) Jog 2-1/4 miles with no walking. The pace is accelerating, so I'll need your prayers to keep up with it! Duane

Last night, in the latter stages of my workout, I developed a cramp in my left calf. Thankfully, it was during the walking phase instead of running. I got to the bleachers, climbed up on the first step, and then started doing calf raises on that leg to work the knot out. Our group's organizer told me that it was about the size of a baseball. All I know is that it hurt! After about 5 minutes of stretching, it worked itself out and I was able to gimp my way around the track for my last 1/2 mile running interval. It took me about 10 miutes, but I did it. Surprisingly, I only had to rub it down with Ben-Gay before I left the track to go home. And by the time I climbed into the sack, all of the stiffness was gone - without any Tylenol! That's pretty cool, if you ask me! Tomorrow's workout is 2 - 1 mile runs sandwiched around a 1/4 mile walk. I hope that the cramps stay far, far away. Duane

Duane--yikes!!! I probably would have just bagged the workout and walked it out. I had the best run this morning! First thing this morning I had a workout with my swim coach. He worked the stuffing out of me! I came home, ate a second breakfast, let it settle, then we all headed to the bike path. I was able to leave the kids at the skate park while I did a warm up run, then hill repeats and a cool down run. All this running and I was never more than 1/2 mile from the kids. I was able to nail all 8 of the repeats. I love runs like this!

After my ten miles on Sunday, my legs felt like lead. They felt so heavy and tired, that I only managed to do 3 miles on Tuesday so far. I normally get a 3 mile run daily, but I just can't do it this week. I must have over done it last Sunday. My knees feel achy sore. I won't be doing that for awhile. I'm probably not ready to do those long runs. I'll stick to shorter, slower runs until I my knee is fully healed.

Last night's run stunk to high heavens! I had a 10:30 doctor appointment with my internal medicine specialist to see if he could determine why "Montezuma's Revenge" keeps afflicting me. He had me on a 7-day course of Flagil, which is designed to fight any infection that might be causing the problem. Anyway, he wants me to get more fiber in my diet, so I need to start chewing my Fiber Choice tablets again. He also wants me to eat more yogurt, both regular and Activia. Hopefully the Activia won't affect my diabetes too much - it's higher in sugar, I think. And after I got out of his office (at 12:00 ), I went to lunch then had to go and get my Mom to take her to a 3:30 appointment. When I finally got her home, I had to run back to my father-in-law's place to change clothes and take him to therapy, then go on to the track. I did the first mile ok, in around 12:45, then my 1/4 mile walk, but after that it was like my body started shutting down. I struggled through another 1/2 mile run, gave it up and walked 1/4 mile to cool-off. I was so disgusted! My head felt nice and clear afterwards, but my body felt like I'd gone 30 seconds with "Rampage" Jackson - badly beat-up! I certainly was grateful that the cramps didn't come back (Thank you, Ben-Gay!!), but otherwise . . . PPPPBBBBBBBTTTTTTTT!!!!!! Duane

Can you not take a supplement instead of eating extra yogurt?

Regular Activia has 19 grams of carbs They do have Activia Light but its the artificial sugar and that does not always help with intestinal issues. It also has the fake sugar aftertaste although the strawberry banana one is pretty good. I eat the regular Activia every day but I would ask your doctor if you could take a probiotic supplement instead of the regular yogurt. Activia has a different strain of probiotics, so you could probably eat the regular activia and take an acidolophus supplement. Acidopholus is not listed as an ingredient/bacteria in Activia. Its bifidaris regularis so my guess is that is why he suggested the two different yogurts.

Thanks for the advice, Stella and Giggles. I'll give his office a call on Tuesday (he doesn't have Friday hours), and I hope he'll suggest a different tactic. I'm not only running, I'm doing Weight Watchers as well, so anything I can do to limit my Points intake on off-days would be good. Although . . . now that I think about it, doing the Activia before my runs really wouldn't hurt me either way. It would give me some much-needed energy before hand, then keep my blood sugar from bottoming out afterwards. And on the off-days, I can eat the WW yogurts that I like without any feelings of pushing the Points limit. Thanks again for the advice, ladies. I'll keep it all in mind over the weekend. Duane

Did my long run this morning. I had a really hard time getting out the door. Once I got out there I did fine. It's all downhill outbound, so uphill on the home. My quads were screaming! Ended up with 9 miles in 1:19.

I'm jealous of the temps you guys are having. It's 91 degrees at 8:00 pm here. My run tonight was actually pretty good, despite that. I got up to two miles, but I was really slow. I'll take it, though. I've been increasing my biking. I did about 10 miles on Friday and about six Saturday, Sunday and today. It makes me a little stiff when I start running, though. It takes a little while to loosen up and get back in the groove.
