Were you hydrated enough? I cramp up when I'm not.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (6/1/2008 2:35:27 PM)

I thought I was.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (6/1/2008 5:50:10 PM)

Lack of potassium?

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (6/1/2008 6:05:58 PM)

It could be, I bought some bananas.

did the walk of shame thu cause I cramped up and I am not sure why.

So it was supposed to be 75-80 degrees today and sunny so I was going to swimming in the pool.

Maybe you didn't stretch enough from your last run. I always feel like my calves are cramping when my legs are so tense and tired and overworked.

I was going to do a longer run today (11+ miles) but I think I might have done only 9-9.5. It was so hot, and I was so tired from a few hours of bouldering yesterday, and having some kids over and they didn't sleep until 2 in the morning. My arms felt like lead from the climbing. It was the toughest run I've had so far this year; quite a change from my run in the rain last Friday. Oh well....I'll just rest and I'm really soooo tired.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/1/2008 6:37:34 PM)

I had a tough run today too after my long ride yesterday.... Of course, it was only a 2 mile run... [8D] [:D]

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (6/1/2008 11:20:40 PM)

I did a very quick 1.5 with my husband this evening. Bless his heart--he hates running, but he was such a good sport and he did very well! Of course, it was 87 degrees at 9:00 pm. I've decided to move up north with Miss Giggles for the remainder of the summer. [:D]

We were going to go trail running this morning in the nearby canyon, but we didn't wake up in time to get there while it was still reasonably cool. It's 10-15 degrees hotter in there than it is up top. We do have hiking boots now, so we plan to go back down there the next time it dips below 80. If it ever does.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 9:46:11 AM)

Sure but it will be 90 degrees with humidity by Fri so I doubt it will be that much of an improvement. [:D]

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 11:24:32 AM)

Dreams...dashed again. [8D]

Alaska is starting to look really good...

noblesinger -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 1:20:29 PM)

I did 2.5 late Saturday afternoon (around 3:30-4:00 when I started) and got through it fairly well, although I was pretty tired. I did something to help keep me from getting too tired too quick; took the run in stages. Ran 3/4 mile, got a drink, repeated that twice, then finished the one remaining lap, before drinking the rest of the water on my 1/4 mile walkout. It helped me have enough energy to go to Wal-Mart for my wife and father-in-law afterwards, although I was dead on my feet when I got done. And Saturday's activity (the run & Wal-Mart, plus my hospital visit with Mom) enabled me to set a new daily record for my Steps Log. Previosly, it had been 16,743 on June 29th of last year, but now it is 17,473. I hope to someday get it up to 20,000 steps in a single day.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 3:11:27 PM)

I took the morning off... I could not get myself out of bed this morning... [8D]

alias007 -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 5:58:09 PM)

I just couldn't make myself go out in the heat today to run.
Hopefully my husband will want to take a bike ride with me tonight. We only bought them on Saturday, but we went out and rode for an hour that evening, and I was surprised at how smoked I felt when we were done. We did manage a fairly speedy pace though, so I'll blame it on that[:)]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 9:22:02 PM)

Well, just got back from the doctor and they xrayed my hand since it's still swollen from my crash on Saturday, but nothing was broken.[:)] They did give me a tetanus shot though because of the "road burns" was pretty deep... [8D] Now, back to the ice and the ibuprofen...

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 10:00:19 PM)

It's 9:02 pm. It's 97 degrees outside. Instead of running, I had a snow cone. [8D]

And I forgot to tell you guys...last week must have been the week to fall. I fell on Friday--the first time since I was about 14! I had run errands and had a bunch of stuff in the basket on the front of my bike...basically, I overloaded it. I had to stop and wait for a car to pass, and then when I took off I didn't accelerate quickly enough and the front wheel turned to the side under the weight and I toppled over with the bike. My left foot got caught under the pedal, otherwise I might have been able to step away. I think I pulled something because I have slight pain in the tendons around my ankle now. Otherwise, the only casualty was a can of soda. [8|]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/2/2008 10:02:55 PM)

Ouch! Maybe we should just all stick with running! [:D][:D]

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (6/3/2008 3:26:48 PM)

Ouch!!!

I'm tapering for my triathlon this coming weekend. I did a bike (15miles) and open water swim (30mins) today. However, I'm so chomping at the bit, wanting to RUN!

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/3/2008 3:39:18 PM)

Good luck! I wouldn't be able to do it!

I ran 3 miles this morning. The last half mile was really hard but I just kept pushing myself and was able to finish.

I forgot to mention that yesterday at the clinic, my pulse was 60. I couldn't believe it! My pulse rate used to always be in the upper 70s or low 80s. This running has really made a difference! [:)]

noblesinger -> RE: The Running Thread (6/5/2008 3:44:33 PM)

My group had to cancel its outdoor workout on Tuesday evening. There were some severe thunderstorms in the area, with considerable lightning flashes, so we decided to call it off. We'll go if there are only light showers, but T&L are sure signs that it's time to go back home. So I had to go to the therapy center where my f-i-l was, adn ask them for permission to use their treadmill. They told me that it wasn't a problem, so I climbed on and did 2.5 miles of a scheduled 2.75 - time was against me, so I cut it slightly short.

Tonight is another 2-3/4 run, but it's 92 degrees right now and not looking like it will cool down a great deal before 6:00. I'm going to need to really keep myself hydrated tonight if I want to finish the run with a minimum of heat problems. Gotta get ready to go home, so I'll see y'all later!

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/5/2008 8:19:53 PM)

Yeah! Thunder & lightening is one thing I WON'T run in! [&:]

I ran a slow 2 miles this morning. I had such a hard time crawling out of bed this morning... [:(]I was finally able to do a few (ok, 40 [:D]) bent-knee pushups this morning for the first time since my bike accident. My shoulder doesn't hurt anymore and my hand is improving (although not ready for the full deal quite yet...).

noblesinger -> RE: The Running Thread (6/6/2008 8:04:24 AM)

Last night was absolutely awful! I made it through the run, but I probably walked 3/4 of a mile out of the 2-3/4 I was scheduled for. The heat and humidity were dreadful, and I really labored through the whole thing. Checked my pulse at the end of the run when I sat down to rest and hydrate, and it was 140 bpm. That's almost to the max for my age (220 -49 = 171), but it felt a little uncomfortable for me. But things slowed down rather quickly after I drank my G2 , then got to my car and put the AC on. I felt the energy level picking up and the pulse slowing down as I drove, and by the time I got home I was back to a semblance of normalcy. I might try to do tomorrow's run in the cool of the morning, before Men's Prayer Breakfast. See y'all!

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (6/6/2008 9:29:53 AM)

I've taken a few days off from running, felt like something was tight and i was too tired to go to yoga

High heat and humidity for the entire next week, so it may be some gym time unless i can go early in the morning or evening. I do want to hit the pool too.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/6/2008 3:14:21 PM)

It's still very cool in the NW. I ran 3 miles this morning. It was a bit windy, but at least it was cool.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (6/6/2008 5:07:57 PM)

We finally dropped to 90 today and it almost feels chilly outside. [8D] I'm going to go running later this evening and hopefully the wind will die down a bit by then.

Cloak -> RE: The Running Thread (6/7/2008 8:56:21 PM)

I hope I can hit the pool soon too. The weather was very humid and hot today even tho windy and it rained heavily; but since I haven't been to the pool for 3 consecutive summers, it would be sinful not to enjoy a lil bit before I leave this place.

Swimming tones up the muscles and it helps me to relax. I would have liked it if it were the sea, but we have no seaside here.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (6/7/2008 9:08:37 PM)

Well, I just got custom fit for the first time for running shoes at our local running store. This is the pair I ended up with (although with a blue/teal trim). I am so excited to try them out tomorrow. They should be super comfy to run in!

I also finally gave in and bought myself a nice road bike (a hybrid actually) that should be 500x better than my current cheapo mountain bike. It will take a few weeks to come in, but I'm really excited to get it! Hopefully by then I'll be all healed up! [:D]

Of course, now I can't buy anything for the next 6 months... [8D]
