Does your appetite increase when you run more miles? I've not gone beyond the 3 mile barrier yet, but because I've got a large appetite anyway, I'll need to watch out when I do. Thank God for Weight Watchers group meetings to keep me honest! Do you get depressed when you can't run? It bothered the snockers out of me when my hammies and quads got tweaked last fall and I couldn't do anything from late October until April. Do you enjoy other activities as much as running? Not really, unless you count walking during a round of golf. How often do you run and if you miss a run, do you feel a little off? Yep! If I miss a day's workout in my schedule, I feel really bad about it. Not to mention that I have trouble on the next workout. How important for you to have a runner as your mate? Mary's a walker, not a runner, so it doesn't really bother me. She's become a huge supporter of my efforts, and that is all that matters to me. Last night was my final pre-race workout and it went really well. I only had to do 2 miles (Strange how that slips so lightly off the tongue now!), so I tried to keep the pace slow, but I ended up doing it fairly fast. After my first 2 laps, I stopped to pop my back over the bleachers, then stopped again after the next one to let a friend (who's injured and can't run with us until spring) to massage the area until it completely popped. I ran the next lap fairly easy, then tried a new tactic: I walked one quarter of a lap, sprinted a quarter, then repeated the sequence. My last 3 laps were a run/walk/run combination, with the last lap being done at a faster pace than normal. I was just seeing what my body would allow me to get away with, and was surprised by the results. This morning, the only thing sore is my left shoulder, but that's from a trashed rotator cuff that I've had for several years. Therapy hasn't helped, so surgery is my next alternative (except for divine healing!). But with my mom's health problems and my father-in-law's needs, I can't afford to get it done right now. So I'll just take my Extra-Strength Tylenol and rub it down with Vanishing Scent Ben-Gay, then grin and bear it. I'll be sure to let y'all know on Friday how the race turned out. Duane
