stellaluna -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/21/2008 8:05:56 PM)

Okay, they have the official results up for the 5K I did. I'm going to copy and paste into here and get the bigger picture. [:D]

Fastest Overall Male -- 17:16
Fastest Overall Female -- 21:24

Fastest Female 30s -- 24:35

Looks like I came in last in my age group. At least I was the best at being the last! [8D] There were 13 people that finished after me and 68 that finished before me.

I like to know these things. [:)]

phosadaud -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/21/2008 9:55:57 PM)

But you didn't finish last! [;)] My first 5K, I was waaaaaaay back. Each race though, I get a little better; I run a little faster; I rank a little higher. Just keep at it! You are doing great! Remember, you haven't been running that long!

---------------

They posted our results for the 2 mile.

My official time was 17:18. I ended up being 5th for all women - had I run 1 second faster, I would have been tied for 4th place. It was good to see that the gal I almost passed at the end was 23 (I'm 33). I think I did pretty darn well to keep up with her! Plus, I found out that of the other 4 gals who beat me, they were all teens or early twenties. Guess this 33 year old did better than she thought! [:D]

High five! <slap>

noblesinger -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/22/2008 8:05:30 AM)

It must be nice to be in your thirties, Kristin. I'll be 50 in a few months and I've almost forgotten what that decade was like!

his_chosen -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/22/2008 8:44:45 AM)

Nicely done!!! Your focus should always be on how well YOU have done, and how much YOU can improve. A big part of where you finish depends on who shows up. You can't control that.

I went out for a very early morning run. It rained overnight and was still raining when I got up. But, but the time I got out there the rain had stopped. Oh well... Legs are dead, most likely still recovering from Sunday's ride. I asked my coach for a rest day tomorrow, which he gladly gave me. I'm doing a half marathon on Saturday and want to go in as rested as possible.

stellaluna -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/22/2008 10:27:07 AM)

I'm competitive enough that I like to know how I do in relation to everyone else; but I'm laid back enough to not worry about it. [8D] One thing I like so much about running is that there's always a new goal to set and reach.

I didn't know you had a half this week, HC...I'm sure you'll do great! I'll be cheering for you from here. [:D]

I'm exactly the same way. I'm thrilled to beat my personal bests, but it's kind of icing on the cake to see how I did in comparison with others.

Duane - I love my 30s! I wouldn't want to be any other age.

His_chosen - Good luck on Saturday! I'm impressed!

I ran 2 miles today at an ok pace. It felt good and fortunately today has been a little cooler so that helped.

noblesinger -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/22/2008 3:09:54 PM)

I'm going to our group workout this evening, but I'm undecided as to whether I'm going to just run for 25-30 minutes, run a designated distance (2.5-3.0 miles), or do some speed work by running a number of 440's at a faster pace than normal. Hopefully I'll be able to decide before I get there, that the humidity will ease off, and that the thunderstorms will hold off until we're done.

Duane

Prairiehiker -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/22/2008 8:40:14 PM)

Good luck to you to HC!

I ran today too and it's a little fast. 4 miles at 39 min 22 sec. For the next two weeks, I won't be running as we'll be on holidays...my daughter and I. We'll probably be doing a lot of hiking through the mountains and cycling. I hope I don't lose my conditioning. I don't think I can leave my daughter alone to do any running at all.

Hope to see you all.

noblesinger -> RE: My First 5K Race (7/23/2008 9:04:45 AM)

It was really muggy last night, mainly because of the thunderstorms that were on the way. I ended up using the workout schedule I picked up from the book, which had me only running for 13 minutes (I actually did 14 - which turned out to be a mile). I took it easy, as you can tell by the time, but I did run the entire time without walking, which was a good thing. Tomorrow evening is when I'll go do my speed work . . . that is, if my b-i-l isn't wanting to go out to dinner.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 9:33:37 AM)

I made myself cross train last night, which I hate. I definitely need an attitude adjustment when it comes to that for sure! I did some free weights and the recumbent bike, which I really really hate, and I wanted to hop on my favorite elliptical machine for a little while and guess what? They got rid of it! Gold's Gym is on my list today. [sm=growlwarning.gif]

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 9:36:40 AM)

OH! I am considering doing some classes at Gold's, though, just to mix it up. They have a spin class on Thursday and a water fitness class. I've never done either one. I'm thinking it might be fun to try something new every week. They have tons of group exercise classes I could try.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 10:28:23 AM)

I love spin. It's a great workout. and great cross training for running. I don't really go to water aerobics cause its mostly seniors. Plus its during the day when i'm at work.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 11:05:23 AM)

The description of the water class I could go to is "Tone & strength with step and/or Hydrofit equipment." I don't know what that means. But I do like old people... [:D]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 11:14:34 AM)

its aerobics in the pool and they use foam weights and those "noodles" for strength training.

although my gym has a spinning class in the water but it's like 8 am sunday morning and I can't get up that early [:D]

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 11:32:05 AM)

I think I'll try the spin class and look in on the other. [8D]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 12:20:50 PM)

I might go later. I found my padded gel seat. [:D]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (7/23/2008 5:01:31 PM)

For whatever reason, everything felt 10 times harder than usual today but I decided that I was just going to grin and bear it. I ran a slow 3 miles, then did my upperbody weights and such. I'm glad I did - even if it was really hard! [8D]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (7/24/2008 2:07:29 PM)

2.5 miles today at a slightly faster pace. I need to ramp up my workouts some - I'm officially registered to do the written/physical testing for a correctional officer position on August 13th less than 3 weeks away! [:o]I shouldn't have any problem passing but I want to do more than simply pass - and I don't want anything to get in the way of me passing. If I don't pass, I can't test for 3 months and I can't apply with the same department for 6 months... [:(]

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/24/2008 2:28:20 PM)

I have confidence in you. [:D]

I ran nearly 2.5 miles last night...barely over a 12:00 pace, but without walking as much as I used to. So that's an improvement, but I'm starting to be impatient. I want a 5:00 mile! j/k [8D]

Have you guys heard about the Nike+ Human Race? I don't know if it will work, but here's a link: http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/humanrace/index.jsp There's not a race around here, but it might be fun to try to run that far that day. Well, and I don't use Nike+ either...but still... ha ha.

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (7/24/2008 2:41:14 PM)

I had the Nike+, it was fun to compete against others. You have to have the Nike+ to join the race. You can set up teams and compete too or challenge others. People will set up other virtual 5ks and 10ks.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/24/2008 2:48:21 PM)

I don't do iPod, so I'm out. Does that new Nike bracelet do the same thing?

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (7/24/2008 3:12:33 PM)

Yes but the accuracy is so so.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (7/24/2008 10:47:01 PM)

Okay, I went to spin class and survived. Barely. It was supposed to be a 45-minute class, but it actually lasted an hour. I wanted to yell out, "I'M A BEGINNER, PEOPLE!" I probably won't be able to walk tomorrow. [8D]

And you guys were right. It doesn't appear the water class would be good for me.

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (7/25/2008 8:31:50 AM)

Stellaluna--at spin class just do what you can. Stick with it, and you'll get there!

I did an easy run this morning. I was supposed to throw in race paced intervals but the legs were just not responding. Things are not looking good for tomorrow's race......
