stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/21/2008 10:35:16 PM)

I was just coming in to see how everyone was doing this week. Oh Duane...where are you??? [8D]

Glad to hear you had a good run, Kristin! I skipped two days and I was in the middle of a great run tonight...and then it got dark. [8|] I guess this time of year you have to watch that. I had planned to go three miles and managed 2.35. [:D]

Oh also! I kept one of those gel blister things on my foot the past couple of days and tonight before I ran I cut a piece of moleskin and put it in the arch of my left shoe. Ran without a pinch or any pain at all. I guess I'll just leave the moleskin in there. I couldn't feel it at all, so even better. <shrugging>

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/21/2008 11:01:24 PM)

Hey whatever works! [:D]

I was noticing this morning that it won't be long before I'm running in the dark again. That's ok. That means it will be cooler! [:)]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/22/2008 9:44:57 PM)

OK... I could barely drag myself out of bed again this morning so I got a later start and didn't do my long run. I chose to run 1 mile at a faster pace (and got a personal best - well, best since I was a teen). Tomorrow, I should be able to do the long run though. [:)]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/22/2008 9:46:13 PM)

I'm going to miss daylight. It's already dark when I go to work boo hoo.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/22/2008 10:20:26 PM)

Yeah, I remember those days. For awhile it was dark when I went to work and dark when I left. It was very depressing.

I went and did two miles this evening. I forgot to tell you guys that our illustrious city street department coated my neighborhood in tar and gravel this week. [8|] The past two days I've been carefully running on loose gravel. It's scary and uncomfortable!

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (8/23/2008 7:17:44 PM)

Yes, days are getting shorter... I'm missing the days when I could knock out a 2hr ride and still be home before the kids got up.

Tomorrow is my big race. My "A" race of the season. I'm doing a Half Ironman (1mile swim, 56mile bike, 13.1mile run). I'm not totally certain I'm ready. Son and I drove over this afternoon. We picked up our packets. I swam the course, son rode his bike route (he's doing the sprint duathlon). We walked part of the run course. Now, it's just a matter of packing up our stuff...

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/23/2008 7:21:46 PM)

Good luck and have fun!!! [sm=thumbsup.gif]

I ran 3 miles today. I started out feeling ready but finishing was hard. [8D]Oh well, at least I finished!

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/23/2008 7:23:33 PM)

Good Luck!

You'll do great!

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/23/2008 8:25:19 PM)

You guys are going to be fabulous! We'll all be cheering here!

Today was my day off from running, so I did a six-mile bike ride and a little weight training. Now I'm watching the men's marathon...GO RYAN HALL!!! [8D]

(I also mowed the lawn, if that counts for anything.)

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/23/2008 9:36:00 PM)

I think mowing the lawn counts! Well, at least I count it... [8D]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/23/2008 9:49:36 PM)

Wow those runners were so fast! ( i know it sounds like I am stating the obvious but if anybody watched they'll know what I mean )

I swam a few laps at the pool. There is a temporary swim craze due to the Olympics so all the lap lanes were full (indoor and outdoor). Outdoor pool closes soon though we'll see how long this lasts, since all of a sudden everybody's offering swim lessons.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 9:58:32 AM)

Yes, those runners were fast. I'm glad Wanjiru won, really. (And set an olympic record!)

Ryan Hall runs for God, so I'll always cheer for him, but if an American can't win, I do like the idea of a Kenyan winning.

[sm=funny.gif]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 10:00:04 AM)

Yeah they didn't really lose if they finished in 2:15 minutes. Plus it was only Hall's fourth marathon so he's got some more time in his career.

I'd be happy if I ran a four hour marathon

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 10:17:09 AM)

I'd be happy if I finished a marathon. [sm=aside.gif]

[8D]

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 10:44:24 AM)

Those long distance runners in the Olympics amaze me. How they can keep their pace at that level for that distance is beyond me... [:o]

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 10:47:34 AM)

Adrenaline and GU? [8D]

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 11:03:43 AM)

The sprinters are amazing too. I am so slow. Plus the sprinters still have great muscle definition.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/24/2008 3:18:16 PM)

I used to sprint and loved it, but I'd never have been able to compete at the Olympic level... Wow!

I ran 2 miles today and it was a really hard run. I was proud of myself for keeping my pace up though. I was just dying... [8D]

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (8/25/2008 7:03:02 PM)

I was able to finish my race yesterday. It was very difficult. I hadn't trained nearly as much as i should have. Oh well. I got it done. Because I finished so late, I didn't bother to stop by the awards tent. A storm was coming in and we needed to get on the road. Imagine my surprise when I saw results posted online this morning--I placed 3rd in my age group, only a minute behind 2nd.

stellaluna -> RE: The Running Thread (8/25/2008 8:14:56 PM)

You always think you did badly and then it turns out you kicked butt. [8D]

Congratulations!!!

(How'd your kid do?)

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/25/2008 8:41:29 PM)

Congrats!!!!!

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/25/2008 8:47:29 PM)

Wow you did great.

phosadaud -> RE: The Running Thread (8/26/2008 3:15:52 PM)

2 miles this morning. I had a hard time, again [&:], crawling out of bed, but I'm always glad I do. It's much cooler this week - doesn't feel like it will be long before I need to break out the long pants and sweatshirts. YEAH!!!!

Miss Giggles -> RE: The Running Thread (8/26/2008 3:19:38 PM)

Yeah I'm getting out the flannel sheets again. Got cold at night [&:]

his_chosen -> RE: The Running Thread (8/26/2008 5:14:12 PM)

It was in the 50's this morning when ds3 and I went for a run! He's running a 5K on Labor Day and I wanted him to run the course beforehand. There are some rollers that can be tough if you don't know how to run them. He did great! And it felt good for me to get back out there. Couple more days of moping about, then it's time to start getting serious abotu marathon training!
